So we have two very contradictory quotes from two people who are responsible for the game

Alan Hartman. T10 Studio head:

keywords: based, tweak
keywords: based, significant changes

Source

____________________________________vs_________________________________________

Ralph Fulton of Playground games:

keywords: exactly the same

Source

So somebody is wrong or distorting the truth. I'm inclined to say it's Fulton, as Hartman would have no reason to do so.

Just food for thought.

It seems that the "significant changes" are about the Visuals of the game and not the physics of the game itself according to that interview.

Jalopnik: What about the visuals?

AH: It's based on the Forza 4 engine, again, but with some significant changes. All of the cars had to be rebuilt for Horizon, since they're going to be doing a lot of different stuff.

As for the physics I would say they have been tweaked slightly but many of the gaming sites who have previewed FH said that the game still has the authentic Forza feel so I guess the tweaks are only minor.

In all likelihood they've tweaked the way the steering responds to input on a controller. After all, no console game uses 1-to-1 axis control on the joystick. That'll affect how easy it is to drift, for example, without actually changing anything in the physics -- although to the average gamer it would fall under the category of "physics."

For all we know they could have left "simulation steering" alone, too. I hope not, because rather than remove all steering assistance it actually just assists you in counter-intuitive ways (IMO)...but it would be a gesture to keep people who automatically select "simulation everything" happy.

I'll be elated as long as the fundamental kinetics, tire model, and mechanical simulations are on par with or very close to FM4. Those are the important bits, and if the wheel support is solid then all you Fanatec users shouldn't feel much, if any, difference. :)

If there is no weather, then this will not be a purchase for me. There is NO excuse for this not to have weather. Horizon is just looking way too much like a generic version of TDU1 and TDU2. But even TDU2 has weather and amazing weather at that. Oh well. As I said before, this is pretty much just a beta for T10 to taste the waters of open world racers.

Well we are not going to get everything we want in this game even though other open world had it or not. Yes this is a test for T10/PG in the open world and I think we are going to get alot of things we like from the Forza series and some new but it is the first so I say just rent it and go from there if it looks like a long term game buy if not no loss.

^Oh yeah I will at least rent it for sure and give it a chance. But I just dont see this being a purchase for me since I already have TDU2.

To be fair the 360 has its limits, In TDU2 there is 101 mediocre quality cars (not including DLC) and Horizon has double the amount of cars which are of higher quality. The physics in TDU2 to put it nicely are trash but from what we have read about Horizon in the interviews the physics are almost identical to Forza 4 with some minor changes. To include all this and weather (which takes alot of processing power) would probably be impossible for the 360 to handle especially when you consider the 360 technology is from 2005.

Get a GT2.

The CSR will fall apart on you. I have owned 4.

I've got a PWTS and CSR, the CSR seems to have survived 4 months of heavy use with zero issues..

It took a while to adjust to the lighter wheel, but love it now, especially the more mechanical paddle shifters.

I occasionally go back to the PWTS (started to get play in the bearing holder), but despite loving the feel of the leather etc, it just feels too heavy.. odd how you get used to these things..

Also regarding the physics, the main tweaks we know about are

1. Tyre data for loads of different surfaces
2. Suspension/Setup tweaks for the cars to make them more suited to roads

Read in to that what you will.. Compared to all other open world driving games, I'll assume the physics are a league better.. all I hope is the open world aspect is as good an experience (if limited in scale) to TDU1

I'm not a huge fan of the GT2 either. It has this, like natural damping that causes it to feel laggy. I don't know how to describe it well, but you feel less connected to the road. I'm wishing I had bought a CSR. Haha moot point though, as I'm getting a CSR Elite in a few weeks...

Well THAT was rather unequivocal... Looks good to me!

Maybe it will give the wreckers someplace to blow off steam other than the Forza 4 lobbies!

Away from E3, this game is just looking more and more like what we're after. The new in-game footage of the Viper looked much more planted to the road.

HOW DARE DARIN AND SHAUN BE DISSAPOINTED IT'S NOT AN MMO.

THEY SHOULD BE HAPPY IT IS ONLY 8 PLAYERS ONLINE!

On a non-trolling note...

Didn't really learn anything new. Hopefully they focused alot more on customization than T10 did for FM4.

If they don't bring any new modifications to the table... shame on you.

Watched the ISR video last night, and I'm so pumped about this game now.

In the footage of offroad driving, I was struck by the apparent lack of invisible walls and ability to trundle across the grass. Also some of the roads appeared narrower than the earliest screenshots suggested, with ample shoulders to make up the difference (for online multiplayer). I think I can already see the difference between barriers/areas you can cross and areas that are off-limits -- I'm not expecting a level of freedom equivalent to FUEL -- but hopefully they'll make good use of the surrounding terrain.

Speaking of FUEL, I saw decrepit farm buildings in that field. It only catches my eye because of my job, but between that and the sprawling map, I wonder if they took some inspiration from FUEL or if any of the Asobo guys landed at Playground Games. It implies a level of detail beyond the pavement that I'll appreciate.

The clip of the map screen, as well as the minimap, seem to indicate that only proper, paved roads are mapped, and they're realistically spread out. The total of "209 roads" may not include gravel/dirt roads or any shortcuts, so the map may be bigger than it sounds from that number.

Most importantly, physics are practically confirmed. I'd have pre-ordered already if the LCE was available anywhere to do so. I guess it'll appear sometime soon. Great news coming out!

So, I can't get the SLS and the 458?!

Unless I'm willing to pay, I guess. Not cool, not cool at all.

/edited for AUP-friendly image.

I'll probably go pre order the Collector's Edition next week.

EDIT Medal of Honor: Warfighter comes out on the same day! 🤬

This is T10, so all Pre-order and VIP/launch cars will be available to everyone at a later time. It's interesting that they're only doing packs of 5 cars this time. I wonder if they'll release 10 cars for FM4 and 5 cars for Forza Horizon each month until FM5 is released. Probably not. I assume they're getting FM4 Collector's edition ready, and they'll probably release that close to Christmas time...like with FM2 and FM3. And then they'll release car packs for FH until FM5 is released.

I think it gets you early access to the exclusive car, so you can start the game with it.

Upon the launch of Forza Horizon starting on October 23, those who have pre-ordered will also be able to download an exclusive car in Forza Horizon. The pre-order exclusive cars include:

The key word here is download, which implies they aren't included, now the only thing is whether or not these 5 are the same as the VIP pack. This is just a big insult in the face to Forza fans. These are relatively popular cars and they seem to be withholding them as bargaining pieces. I never liked how they dealt with the pre-order bonuses like in Forza.

I'm on the fence on this one. I'm not impressed at all with this though.

This is worse than forza 4. Atleast in Forza 4 they were new additions and not high class, but now I have to choose between a 458 and a friggin SLS AMG? I drive those daily in f4 and cant imagine not having access to both of them.
