I must say I'm really contemplating putting less time into this. If this is the standard of driving one has to put up with, the championship is a lottery anyway. 9 races in, I've lost at least 25 points to moves that were completely uncalled for, and that's a conservative estimate.
But it should be no surprise this is how it is. When the only penalty you have to fear for ramming somebody off is some "license point" which has no effect whatsoever, unless you do it five times in a row, the message people get, is that it actually pays to try such moves. You cost somebody else a lot of points and you actually gain at least one position. It's a no-brainer. The only penalty that works, is if the culprit loses at least as many points as the one he ran off. In my opinion, that means time-penalties. Give somebody 20 or 30 second-penalties and they will think twice about doing it again.
To be fair, not every race is like that. R1 of most nights is an enjoyable affair. Battling it out with people who know what they're doing and who you can trust not to try anything stupid, is a lot of fun. Some other people seem to think though, that overtaking with contact is actually the norm, when it should be the exception, even in TOCA.
