Very interesting concept (idea), would be cool if you have a track nearby that is in GT.

The Paperclip in Gran Turismo? .......................

Would be cooler if you could drive your car around a local track and have the gps data, compass, G-meter, and altitude logged. After a couple of laps, feed the data into GT5 rumor track editor, and voila. A basic, but kinda accurate version of your local track.

Maybe the Toyota has the full list of real tracks in GT5. If at the show you could fiddle with the car and go through the menu, maybe you could spot the tracks that the car saves data for.
Kinda of a longshot but if someone is going to the salon worth trying.

alo feature has come to GT5. but GT5 still didnt release:)

Dont know how sympathetic the police would be when you get pulled over in downtown Tokyo after trying to set a good laptime.

99.7% useless.

No wonder GT5 is taking forever to deliver while they screw around with toys and gimmicks.

This is the sort of gizmo they can play with AFTER release.

I'm sorry, but this just seems incredibly gimmicky to me. Available from late 2012, at least two years away. And only available on performance sports cars from a single manufacturer. Track day GPS systems already exist, hell, I'm pretty sure I remember someone saying there's an app for your iPhone you can use if you're super cheap. The only real advantage of this is the link to GT5, which is of debatable value when the track you're driving on may or may not be in the game.

I just don't see how this helps to sell either PS3's or copies of GT5, which are pretty much the only things that PD is related to.

It's simple. If you have a ft-86 and you like games you most probably are going to buy a ps3 and gt5.

1st how many ft-86's are actually going to be sold worldwide?

2nd by 2012, i'm expecting more information on the PS4, and would have hoped GT6 would be an imminent release.

Of course it's a very futuristic and cool feature...
But... Useless for 90+% of Gran Turismo fans.
So please... Just give us the game, instead of packing it with extragalactic **** almost nobody will be able to use

Well, since they are planning on including this technology on "most" future models, then a lot of cars.
Apparently we won't be seeing GT6 by 2012.

What an awesome idea...

I'm going to show my age now... but...

In the early 90's the Jaguar XJ220 game on the amiga had a custom track editor, you decided track shape and elevation (seemed inspired by scalextic track building), it bunged a load of generic scenery around it... was a nice option...

But wait... that'd compromise the overall quality of... (blah blah) :)

I think it's time to lower my expectations, because with so much time to think about what could be in GT5 - my imagination is running wild.

It's a cool feature, but have to agree, it's 99.99999% useless for 99.999999% of people...

And considering that unless the game is the most detailed simulation ever to hit the planet, what good is chasing a 'real' car's position based on real world physics against a computer games effort.

Saying that, no doubt if it's aimed at a specific car, PD may have gone the extra mile to try and match in-game to RL as closely as possible..

What on earth they are wasting time on things like this, and not on the game, who knows.. However it is quite cool so it actually gets the thumbs up from me :)

As long as The Stig uploads his ghost cars upto GT5 for us to download, that 99.99999% of disinterest becomes the opposite. For me at least

Maybe PD built the tracks in game using this stuff to adjust the physics in order to get a real simulation... So if you don't believe GT5 is the "real driving simulator" you can test it...
Select a car in the game, go to buy it in real (don't forget to buy tyres with the brand "R1") and go to the track...

Now this game just needs free track editor for great minds among us to build more tracks.

Totally!!! how many users of GT have an FT86? WTF!!!!

Or Kaz its going crazy or SONY put the ******* marketing noose.

Anyway WTF!!!!!

There is a use. The Stig. Can he have a mobile unit in each of the cars he tests allowing the ghost cars power laps to be updated into the game?

Just a thought?

People don't realise the possibilities.

They could put this in cars for the Top Gear power lap board = Stig ghost laps which many have been asking for (Which can't really be accurately created from existing laps). Also the star in a reasonably priced car etc.

This also leads the way to using real qualifying laps as ghost times in real events. It says it was tested in the race spec ISF Kazunori was driving around the Nurburgring, maybe we get to race against him ingame? Maybe someday they could make a deal with the FIA to make it happen. I think thats a long way off yet, but over time it is possible.

People are just saying "OMG i wouldn't use this it sucks, 99.9999938947264% of people won't use this". But you are missing the potential of the technology.

Over time this could become the single best innovation PD have come up with. I think its fantastic.

Ninja'd :/ he has the right idea :)

Indeed and everytime KY goes on one of his races or track days he can have one fitted which we can watch and compare in GT.

Who's saying that entire races can't be saved? Maybe we get to take part in re-created "real-life" races?

I ninja'd the 2 of you last page :sly:

I think Top Gear are more than likely getting a new reasonably priced car for the next series. So hopefully they might have this feature in that car right from the get go.

It was my understanding that this was exclusive to new Toyota models. Unless other manufacturers are already making something to put a memory card in the dash...

https://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turismo-5s-gps-functionality-3d-confirmed/

Polyphony Digital has partnered with auto technology company Denso to develop a “GPS-track day unit”, one of which will be included in the new Toyota FT-86G

Its going to be first used in the FT-86, but it was not developed solely for Toyota i don't think. I think the use of the technology would be extremely limited if that was the case, i guess its a question that should be in the next interview with Kazunori...

Kaz needs to just step away from GT5 now and Sony need to get the presses rolling on it otherwise we'll be having this conversation this time next year. I don't think anyones told Kaz about the PS3's HDD and it's internet thingymajib, maybe someone should tell him he can add stuff after release, in fact as much stuff as he likes!
GT5 is the cars, the physics and the tracks.......all of which can be tweaked and added too after release to Kaz's hearts desire. As far as 3D, head tracking, gps/ memory cards, porsche contract ect ect it can all be added later. We were told before christmas that the game was ready and could be released at anytime......then why not just release it! Check this interview out, you'll see with Kaz's coments towards the end why GT5 is taking so long!

I resume this in my words and my thoughts:

I want a car and track, NOTHING MORE.
