Let's not forget about last year... Loosing the championship thanks to a broken engine isn't considered bad luck? :)

You aren't going to go through 248 races and have perfect luck in every single one of them. In any case, Alonso had one too at Monza, so in the end it evened out. But generally, he was lucky - but he did often make his own luck, through, as I said, damn good driving and the experience that gives.

Well, of course it's always better. At least THAT would convince me that Hamilton has won the title by his own means. Now, after Alonso's crash, Ron's smile and the entire team just giving :/ faces, I just don't believe it.

I don't know which coverage you were watching, but all I saw was a bunch of disappointed mechanics - in full face helmets - and the back of Ron's head.

Sure, Hamilton has driven the car, and he has driven it well, that can't be denied. But show me another rookie, ever, that fills all the following points:

- The best car in the series on his first season
- The full support of the team on his first season
- The position as #1 driver in the team on his first season
- The extensive training since the beginning of his career by the F1 team

Correct. There isn't one. What I'm trying to point out is that there have been other rookies that could have done the same he did, given the same possibilities. What if Fernando or Kimi had been #1 driver for Ferrari in 2001? No doubt, the result would have been a record breaking rookie year and a world championship.

What took years for the others to achieve, Hamilton has got right in the beginning.

Arguably, Jacques Villeneuve. Best car? Check. Full support of the team? Check. Position of #1 driver in the team? No - but both drivers at Williams were equal. Like the McLaren of today. Alonso's upset because he isn't #1, not because he thinks Hamilton is. Extensive training? Not since the beginning of his career, but he spent a good 5 or 6 months testing before his first GP. And then he nearly won both that race and the championship.

I like this quote from CBS Sportsline

"Hamilton could become the first rookie to win the world title if he finishes with at least an 11-point lead over Alonso next week in China."

Hey CAM...I actually said the things you quoted to Omnis... XD
And what was Omnis' response to them?:)

Except movies are make believe and F1 races are real life. That's a huge difference when it comes to making them "safe", but I also understand that many fans of racing are largely fans of the danger, and why they consider races with lots of crashes great races, while those without, not so much.

Personally, I'm in the middle, I like the adrenaline of seeing driver's on the edge of danger, but at the same time I enjoy as much if not more skillful driving, smart race strategies, and ingenious technical engineering often found in many forms of auto sports. 👍
I'm pretty much in the same place as you Nitrate. There's a lot more to the race than crashes. You got to understand a lot about racing to truly appreciate it.;)👍

So no pressure, 'Nando!

Ok guys. I found an onboard video which starts just after Alonso starts spinning:

As you can see, he crashed not during a corner, nor a corner-exit - but rather while braking into the corner.

Confirming the crash location:

The problem:

The aftermath looks surprisingly close to that of Raikkonen's Monza crash.

It's still going to be close. It may not be over by the China GP. It depends on the positions of Raikonnen, Alonso and Hamilton. But it looks good for Hamilton.
He obviously learnt some valuable lessons since the Nurburgring. Second very wet race and no mistakes. A good drive. And Raikonnen didn't give up either.
Looking forward to the China GP.

I would like the championship to be decided over here, but I would also like Massa to win at home again and if the championship is already decided in China it would make things easier I guess.

I'm not sure what I want to see. I'm no fan of Fernando's, but I'm also not sure I want to see Hamilton winning the World Championship. Don't get me wrong; the kid has talent. But he comes along and makes it look all too easy; his only real mistake was at the 'Ring. Sooner or later, he's going to crash and burn and the higher you are, the further you'll fall. The third option is to have Kimi come from behind and taken the Championship, but I don't want Ferrari winning this year. There's still something fishy about Stepney-gate to me, especially when you take into consideration the similar (though less serious) situation with Toyota a few years ago.

Well...for me it's a process of elimination...

Kimi - He barely has a chance anyway, needs non finishes to realistically stand a chance from both McLaren drivers...not likely to happen

Alonso - I'm glad that stinking rat is staring the loss of his Championship in the face.

Hamilton - Did Schumi fall from grace that way? Nope. Sure, he's not Schumi, but what's to say he won't become our little British Schumi. He's showing the qualities, albeit showing that pressure can get to him but who doesn't it get to? Falling from up high is a risk every driver has when winning a Championship. It doesn't matter if it's in his first season or 4th, he'll still have that same risk.

Just for kicks:

Was so rooting for Massa during that little sequence, just to punt Kubica down another place for his over-zealous move on Hamilton earlier.

But the FIA removed it from youtube.

Blake's will probably dissappear soon too. :(

That's why I like sites like KeepVid and Vixy.net that make it very easy to download YouTube videos and those from other sites that do not allow you to download their videos. You can also convert them to the video codec of your choice. This is how I am able to save and watch my favorite YouTube and other internet videos directly through the PS3 without having to use the browser. 👍

Wow, and there I was trying to be respectful to Hamilton. I usually don't believe my spanish fellows when they tell me British always look down at us like if we were an african country, but given your comment, I'll have to start believing them.

Hey! I like Alonso much more than Hamilton.

Sorry, it was a video I couldn’t access so I never got to watch it.

I believe the rat comment was made because he tried to blackmail Ron Dennis and eventually "ratted" on the team to the FIA.

You're a liuzzite, that doesn't count. ;D

I'm not going to defend that attitude, but I bet my right hand that that's happened in every single team, every single season. Not only drivers, but unhappy engineers and such, threatening to move out to other teams and telling them their secrets. Given we only know about a tiny, pathetic bit of what really happens in F1... I can totally imagine Barrichello arguing heavily with Ferrari during his first year, seeing he was only there to help Schumi win, but add a million dollars here, a couple race wins there, a bit toothy grin and nobody will know. ;) Alonso just decided to let it out, tired of too much falsety.

Also, wasn't Hamilton the one to shout out nasty words at Ron when he lost his pole in Hungary? Oh right, everyone has forgotten about that. If only an important F1 driver was to speak up every single secret in his career...

PS: Although that's precisely what I love from F1, the huge ammount of money and fame making it look less like a real motorsport each year, and more of a spy, drama and scandals novel with an unexpected ending. Must be why the 70's were the golden ages of F1.

Wait... are these the same Spanish fellows that go on and on in the Spanish media and forums making derogatory and racial remarks against Hamilton as well as references to Hamilton as a monkey? :indiff:

Let's not open that can of worms again... as it's simply far too easy to find very ugly comments coming from some very high profile Spanish media and Spanish fans.

That's how I interpreted it as well.

Is there not a difference between an argument and extortion?

An argument is when you say "do this because I'm right and you're wrong".

Extortion is whne you say "do this or I send your naughty photos to the newspapers".

Indeed. That's why I avoid those forums and I gotta get a beer whenever I trip into a F1 conversation, granted I'll have to hear ignorant people repeating what the spanish media said and still believing there's been some kind of plot to prevent Alonso from winning from the beginning. ... And that's why I avoid british forums too, they must be exactly the same. Only that someone got into a spanish one, saw one or two derogatory remarks against Hamilton from a few douchebags while the rest of comments were still in the irrational, but respectful range. But, like always, people exaggerate those things.

Is there not a difference between an argument and extortion?

There is, but there's also a difference between how most things Alonso does or says are taken with a pinch of salt, while whenever Hamilton says something among the same lines he's automatically forgiven. If it's against his teammate (like not wanting him to be in the same team next year), it's okay, he's a moron. It's his fault.

Just like most people take Ron and Hamilton's current behaviours as something normal, using the blackmail excuse. Like if Alonso -started- all this... And come to think about it, if it was true that ONLY Alonso and De la Rosa had written evidences (which only point at themselves, Coughlan and Stepney), why would he blackmail Ron with something that would only prove them as guilty? He must have hoped -his- evidence would somehow create a domino effect and reveal the rest of the drivers were guilty too. Yeah, seeing Hamilton in the court, saying "I don't have any evidence to give" brought a stinky smell to my nose.

I think we'll have quite a lot of fun telling this to the next generations, if F1 still exists by then... :D

I'll tell them Solar1 cars used to be exciting big, powerful and overly awesome machines that polluted the earth :p

But yeah, a season to remember.

So effectively you're calling me a racist because I call Alonso a stinking rat for his

Blackmailling
Acting like a child
Lying

throughout the season?

Also please do inform me where I stated "Alonso and all the Spanish people in the world"? Do yourself a favor and step into the real world, I stated one person and aimed and insult solely at Fernando for his antics this season. I did not and in no way imply that every Spanish person in the world is a "stinking rat". Would I have a Spanish girlfriend if that were the case? By Joe I think not. Idiot.

Wow, Spike relax. He didnt mean it that way. He only states his opinion and not about your fanboynism. jeez

If he didn't mean it that way, I suggest he shouldn't type it that way. As for fanboyism, I fail to see where that comes in to it.
