It is a bb gun.

I just found it funny as it really makes no sense. A photographer telling the subject to hold the fake gun and putting a cat on them...

Part of it is context. I got it off a running forum, some guy was claiming he was going after a world record and it was found out that the webmaster for the guy's site also works in a church, produces crappy music, takes pictures of high/middleschool boys grappling each other...

That picture poped up.
