Does anyone ever use the numeric keypad segment on their keyboards?

I'm looking at, and obviously using, my keyboard at work now and where as the regular keys are clean in the middle with a little bit of grime on the edges and sides, the numeric keypad off to the side is covered in dust

I think i need to clean my keyboard...

Same as me, years of entering in product codes etc. i can touch type on the num pad and keyboard and switch between both. Also blind type numbers on a phone etc.

All comes down to what you do as a job i guess.

Had a job in de past where I had to use it A LOT.... typing in codes of beverages and food at a restaurant I worked at... Got so good at it I can type any number you want without looking...

Constantly, for most number inputs. Its just quick as hell.

I almost never use the #@$%!& numbers at the top of the keyboard, unless I need one of those #%&* characters.

I wasnt sure if it was real either... but it gave me a chuckle... Maybe he fell asleep waiting for the authorities while drinking a nice refreshing brew

I use mine quite a bit actually for work. Makes typing any number into AutoCAD much easier than the numbers above the letters on the keyboard.

I'm afraid you're the odd one out Dan, I can touch type on the keypad even though I'm pretty much index fingers only on the main keyboard.

Why stretch all the way out to the right when you can just use the row of key sitting above the top line of alphabetical keys?

I think you've all spent too many years working in retail, using tills.

Don't worry, you are not the loan crusader on this. I too have a blind spot right where the keypad sits.

Phones are inverted from keypads to avoid dialing too fast when touch-tone was first introduced. I know this because I was alive at the time.

Skilled numeric entry personnel (which were in wide supply because at the time banking, business, etc. was done on adding machines) could select digits too fast for the phone switch to recognize them, so the rows were inverted.

And yes, I, myself, am fairly quick with a number pad, and useless at actual typing.

What did you guys say about "left" from the keyboard pad?

If going left is too far for you, how about flipping over?

That keyboard looks terrible. Wouldn't you also be pressing the buttons underneath while typing?
