Microfiche used to be what they pulled out at the parts counter, too, when you went up and asked for a voltage regulator for your '75 Vega. Or in this case, shifter parts for your motorcycle. No computers with catalogs on CD-ROM back then.

But only at dealerships. Aftermarket had to make do with giant printed catalogs. Racks and racks and racks of giant printed catalogs.

Where's the "Tearing my fingernails trying to separate pieces" piece of the pie?

 Hated when that happened, always found those two small pieces that just were seemingly bound together as if they were super glued.

Exactly! Good to know I am not alone, my palindrome-monikered friend.

I was going to mention that. Those stupid flat pieces sometimes couldn't be coaxed apart because they didn't have enough height to get leverage on them and didn't have enough separation to get a fingernail through. I learned never to stack two equally sized flat pieces on top of each other, and I always appreciated the flat pieces that were designed with a little indentation on the bottom.

I usually ended up using my teeth. Dentists everywhere love legos.

The lego pie chart is shockingly devoid of the single greatest purpose of lego of all time.

Super-awesome-death-killing-spaceship-racecar-rocket-jeeps. Seriously. Who doesn't remember making the coolest made up army vehicles out of Lego?

Just vehicles?

Me and my friend would have sleepovers where we would make forts and have a lego war, a lot of brave plastic men lost their heads and legs in those battles and it was all for nothing as we got bored and smashed the forts.

i also remember that the lego guys would fit perfectly in the cheap 1:24 scale cars I had.

Side Note: I actually had to learn to use a microfiche in school as the catalogs for small engines weren't available online at the time.

This!

Boy i loved legos!!

I buit massive towers as high as i could!

Or built "Ships" that would slide along the carpet floor and crash into the walls, Trying to build a design that would take the least amount of damage:dopey:

Yep, when your fingernails have become too sore/broken, use your teeth. Though I didn't like putting all the bite marks into them.

What the hell are Legos?

Indeed, I think they mean "Lego" :p

(did I just open a can of worms?)

I didn't know you grew up in the US? A Australian is supposed to say just "Lay-go" :sly:

WTF  I got the first one, but the others I'm still stuck on.

I'm just going to assume:
A) They didn't sell Legos where you live.
B) They were sold under a different name.
C) You were deprived of a childhood joy.

D) People who refer to Lego and Lego Bricks as "Legos" are doin' it 'rong.

It's Lego. It is both singular and plural and I've always said it (and heard it said) "leggo".

I did that too :p

My friend had all the Star Wars lego, so it would always be army guys vs all the Jedi and Sith. But we'd give all the starships ect. to the normal lego guys, cause they don't have much of a chance against Yoda and Darth Vader together :D

I also had the problem of searching through the Lego Technics box in search of that elusive piece. I used to irritate the hell out of my parents because of all that rustling around. I also used to get really sore hands when digging through heaps of large parts to get to the small bolt type pieces.

The Lego days were the best.

Lego themselves get quite annoyed by it...

LEGO
If the LEGO trademark is used at all, it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS". Never say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs".

Did anyone ever use Tente? They were like Lego but smaller, hence allowing for more detail. I only saw them in Spain, but maybe someone's used it before?

For those too young to have ever used a microfiche, that was how we used to research past newspaper articles before the World Wide Web. Multiple newspapers would fit on one plastic sheet in near microscopic images and you had to place it in the microfiche machine to read it.

The real joy was that the sheets were organized by newspaper name and date. If you were looking for a specific topic you actually had to read through all the headlines to find it.

And that is why people born before 1985 think Google is awesome. [/old man speech]

After school in grades 5-8, I had a lot of time to kill before my father could come pick me up. The school library had the complete run of the New York Times on microfilm spools. I pretty much read all of WWII history from contemporary newspapers from, say, 1938-1946.

I did!

My grand parents moved to Spain after they retired, so i used to buy/have bought for me Tente when i went out to stay with them. It was mostly the battleship stuff like posted. I had (and still have somewhere) loads of the stuff and used to build some great big warships with it. This was at a time when Lego was still pretty basic, Tente had loads of little accesories like choppers, jet planes and gun turrets to dress the models up with which really made the difference. Good times 👍
