Not every driver in my opinion but conversely you do have a point . Some of the more technical tracks or tracks that aren't your best then sure , extra practice will reward you with more laptime from practice & setup time.

Personally I need practice and every week. I ran Spa about 1,000 laps between WRS, 3D3 and Gamesta just a few weeks ago and I'm still going to run about 500 more this week to prepare for the Challenge. I'm not gifted enough to just show up and be fast regardless of how familiar I am with the track.

I usually run much more practice than this. I ran 70 laps at Spa and 60 laps on La Sarthe as practice for example. I lacked free time last week, but to be honest, I don't know if I would have gained any positions at Monza through practice with the way the GT-Rs run there. Plus, running alone on Monza is fairly mundane so that doesn't provide any extra motivation.

Yes, time is a constraint. I didn't have the time I needed for GP/F either so I know how it is. Solo practice can be fun to an extent, but after that group practice is much better. Especially with mics enabled and mini-test races to get used to the draft, dirty air and passing. A regular and official practice time slot for the series, obviously optional, is probably a good addition to consider for Season 4.

Wow, I'm very impressed by your commitment. 500 laps around Spa in a GT500 is close to 19 hours of track time. You need a lot of free time and motivation to run 19 hours in the same car around the same track in 1 week. :scared:👍

OK. I might have exaggerated just a little... I could easily see 6-8 hours of practice on Spa this week, but probably not 19. :dopey:

Honestly I have put in 19 hours towards a WRS in a single week though. It's crazy to think about it, but it makes you a much better driver when you start searching for the last tenths and even hundredths in a lap. Guys have been known to put 1,500 miles in per week regularly to get their "best" lap.

That is hardcore mate . Thumbs up for that effort . 👍
I'm quite lucky in the sense that I can just turn up sometimes and just have a feel for the car straight away . I do practice full race distances when I feel I need to though . I'm not alien quick by any means but i'm curious to how next season will work out for me .

There are seriously impressively quick drivers in this series & every weekend you can see drivers improving & getting quicker all the time .

Nurb 24 will however be an almighty challenging race . The concentration needed here for 10 laps & 50 - 60% of them in the dark will be draining and will feel like a very long race . I don't expect a high turnout for Sunday unfortunately as I suspect there are several racers who are ' done ' with this season already & won't return . Although you still see them browsing the thread which is strange ....

But anyway , on to Germany once more . I'm going to put a more rigourous testing session down for here as it will not be easy . :)

Keeping a consistent rhythm here throughout will be the key .

Totally forgot we were going to be running time change. :scared: I'm going to have very few laps under my belt given the prep required for the challenge so I don't expect a very good result. But I'll be there, you can count on that. That would explain Dragon's desire to go into the final round with the championship locked up.

I think it's pretty typical of every series to fizzle out a bit toward the end when people no longer have a shot at the championship or just lose interest. Too bad because they are missing out on driving in a good series and improving their skills.

I'm sorry that NEPALII decided to stop showing up... was nice to have another person challenge for a podium spot every week and in a Lexus besides. Throw NEPALII and Remy_K full time in this series, get KK a DVR, start Hydro in a GT-R from week 1... and it would have changed the complexion of the season quite a bit.

TJ, I'm anxious to see what you can do in a GT-R as well... I'm sure you'll be right up there. Try and grab a Calsonic and you won't regret it. If Dragon was in the Calsonic my win total might be 0 this season. Whatever you do don't let Dragon get the Calsonic or Yellowhat. :sly:

It's been in the back of my mind for a little while . Driving in the daylight here is relatively easy for me , the night-time part though is a completely different animal . I think the win will be open here so that makes good sense .

I agree , it could've been a close 4 way battle for the title up to the end possibly .

Thanks man i'll keep that in mind . Podiums and wins will be my target next season and then we'll see how the points look at the end . I think i've done well this season . I've battled and overtaken a few GTRs along the way and served my first season apprenticeship well .

I'm going to go all out this weekend and drive the wheels off the SC430 one last time . 👍

Nurburgring at night. :scared:
I have experience running V35 skylines on the nurb at night, but these GT500s are completely different animals. Considering how mistake prone I was at La Sarthe at night, this is going to be ugly. :yuck:
I'm not a nurb man, so you'll be flying the Lexus flag this weekend, TJ. 👍

Those are extreme numbers, but I sort of know where they'd be coming from. I distinctly remember running 150 laps around Rome in a Griffith in GT3 way back when. I was competing against a rival in a forum and we would post our laps when we had improved. We would be 2-3 tenths off our final times after 20 laps or so, but we would continue trying to improve those last few hundredths for hours and hours. I believe I ended up losing by half a tenth, but it was fun putting in those laps.

I'm loving the fact that you put a lot of effort into playing this game and that you enjoy it greatly. How long have you been playing GT, if you don't mind me asking?

If you liked that "splits" competition you would love the WRS here at GTP. Check it out. And as an added bonus after you get down to that last "time trial" tenth and consistently run laps within a tenth of your best then you have a 2nd event after the time trial is done... A live race against others online who also competed in the time trial and know the car/track to it's tiniest detail. That's what 3D3 is all about.

First lap was in April 2011 with a ds3. Never owned a previous version of GT or any other race sim. First lap with a wheel was mid May (about 6 months ago). Dove in to WRS time trials "full tilt" immediately and got tons of tips and advice from the *fast* drivers in that forum. This and 3d3 are actually my first online racing series.

I still have a lot to learn and speed to find. That will be completely obvious when we battle the aliens on Dec 3.

I hope we have a good turn out for the last race this sunday.

I hope we have a good turn out for the last race this sunday.

I think the maximum number will be 9 drivers , as it seems everyone else has left .

I don't even mind if it's 6 or 7 , i'll still enjoy the experience . 👍

If we get 9 or 10 Drivers I will be very excited but very happy with 6 or 7.

Yeah that will still be fun . I'm going to try to hold on to someones tail lights , as 15 miles per lap in the dark will get lonely pretty quickly if you find yourself alone .

I have a feeling even with 10 drivers we'll find ourselves alone most of the "night". Following someone closely for that long in the dark is going to be impossible. We may intersect in the night, but it might be a good race to turn on the background music just like a long road trip.

Speaking of driving close, here's a video of the 13 lap battle that Dragon and I had. Sped up some sections as it was almost 20 minutes! Also has shots of everyone at the start. I can't believe how clean the start was. 👍 👍 There were only 7 of us, but I have to say I'm proud of that start as even the top series often have terrible pile ups. Great driving from all 7.

Of course Hydro went and took out the field half a lap later allowing 3 drivers to escape. Dragon and I paid HYdro to do that and then I threw a banana on the road (ala Mario Kart) so Terrible would slide into the kitty litter on the next chicane.

A Tivo is a DVR! That's what I'm talking about. I watched the race on my DVR, but I enjoyed it time delayed via DVR and without commercials. It was a good day for me as my favorite F1 driver (Webber) won the F1 race and my favorite GT5 driver (Me) won the Gamesta race. :sly:

Back to the other subject we were discussing...

[RANT]

Gamesta, maybe you should PM the "missing" drivers that are still on your list, but didn't show up the last couple weeks and ask them if they are going to show. Personally, I think if they don't show and they don't let you/us know they should be put on a "gray" list. It's fine if you can't continue, but at least make a formal withdrawal. At minimum those on the gray list should NOT be allowed to pick a good car next season and only get on the reserve list without a guaranteed spot OR a car choice until 7-10 days after registration for Season 4 opens.

And if you aren't going to finish the race (Terrible) or season (KingBest) don't pick one of the premium cars and lock someone else out. NEPALII has been a no show (which bugs me unless he contacted Gamesta), but at least he's not in a car that has a "waiting" list every season. On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of using another series as "practice" as I suspect was the case -- or at least if you are going to do that show up consistently. That's disrespectful unless you come out in the open when you sign up with the series director (which may have been the case and I don't know about it).

And if you start a race you should finish it unless there is an emergency or a special situation. And if there is an emergency obviously you quit (quietly), but at least leave a note on the thread saying sorry an emergency came up. It's proper etiquette and shows a little respect for the other drivers that invest time in this series.

I've been totally in the open that next season I'm going to be on/off. I will willingly take whatever car is open and sit out if the grid is full. I'm not going to grab a good GT-R knowing I'm going to miss 3+ races. And when I start a race I'm going to finish it if I have any choice at all. I have *never* started a race and not hit the finish line, and I've been a back marker with heavy damage on turn 1 and over a lap down more than once.

It is possible , I have done this before , but yes it's hard to achieve due to the nature of the circuit plus a few other factors that I won't bore the thread with lol .

The purring pussycat underneath my engine cover is always great company . I can't drive with any music as it distracts me sadly . I need to hear my revs to achieve maximum performance.

Awesome vid .👍

And i'm pretty sure I saw that banana in the clip but your secret is safe with me .....

Edit // - All of the above post +1 . 👍
There was a certain driver who parked his car in Suzuka , just before he claimed to have a power outage in his house . It was very thoughtful of the power cut to wait for him to park & sign out..

EDIT: @WRP- All the cars are gonna be tested to level the performance anyway, having said that Im picking first, dibs on the Denso Sard...:D

It's true most of the driver's have not said or anyting and quit or not shown up. I always get a mesage from Terrible stating if he cannot show up for a particular race etc... Other drivers I cannot say the same for. With car selection next season I am simply going to give returning drivers first pick in the Testing Season 4 Thread when it's started.

ALERT! The GTP_Registry Qualifier has re-opened. You guys should seriously consider running it. The timing is *perfect* since the qualifier runs on nurburgring and we're running that track on Sunday. So in a way you are killing two birds with one stone getting up to speed on the track now.

There are going to be some pretty cool things coming down the pipeline and you will only be able to participate if you are in the registry. Plus if you want to join us for 3D3 Races you will *very* shortly be required to be on the registry. If you are on the registry you have an open invitation.

Basically, here's what you have to do:

  1. Start a new PSN account with a GTP_ prefix.
  2. Log into your PS3 with that PSN account and start a new GT5 A-spec driver.
  3. Build that driver up to level 16 to unlock the special event used for the qualifier. This is the *only* grinding required and you can get it done in 30-45 minutes. Tip: If you share a fast car on your main account (say your GT500 car) and use that car to run a couple seasonal events (super gt seasonal at Indy) you can level up to 16 in 30-45 minutes. Tip: Log into the new account a few days in a row before starting to grind so you get your bonus up to max. Then just run a couple seasonal events and you are good to go and also have enough cash to buy a few cars here and there used for special events.
  4. Practice the qualifiers (sectors 2 and 3 on the 'ring')
  5. When you have it down go for you best clean sectors using the special vent and save the replay. Then submit your best times via PM (follow the instructions in the qualifier).

A few weeks later you'll get a division assignment and can take part in the WRS or any special events that require membership on the registry.

NOTE: You don't have to use your GTP_ tag account all the time and there is no need to grind it up to level 40 or do all the license tests over. You only need to use it for these GTP special events, 3D3 races or to run WRS time trials. You need very few credits to buy a few cars now and then for WRS. You don't have to grind 20M and buy an F1 Ferrari or start a new car collection. You may find over time you like your new GTP identity and use this new account the majority of the time (that would be me).

With car selection next season I am simply going to give returning drivers first pick in the Testing Season 4 Thread when it's started.

I'll start my testing program for season 4 some time in December...I have a few ideas about how to approach it all and I'll be looking at the tuning guru's to slide some of their tunes over, *cough* TJ *cough* :sly: 👍

Great win Tim, congratz on getting 3 wins 👍
And a great season from Dragon. Well deserved Championship

Hopefully I'll be a little more myself again for Nurburgring. Wow, did I have a seriously bad race at Monza. :yuck:

Apologies to everyone for the 1st lap spin. Not something I would ever consider a "my fault" scenario, as it was a late brake / dirty air / crappy morning concentration error.
That being said, it did wipe out most drivers, and that was most certainly my fault 👎 - I'm my own worst critic ;)
Three damaged wheels, and the engine as well :(

After lap 1, I'm pretty sure I went off track about 7 times before pit 1. - That might equal my entire season off track total - on the easiest, most boring GP track ever no less. - Lame
Then, just to secure ZERO points for this race, I had the most awsome pit error. I went into the pit quite slowly (120ish km/h), as there was no point in rushing it, I had already blown any chance for a win, and I was following Sagaris in anyway, and we were dueling for several laps - good bit of fun.
On the exit, I was at about 210 km/h before I realised / remembered the pit exit speed limit. I slammed on the brakes and got back to 150 or so, then ran long into turn 1, and went off a bit :dunce:

Had a shaky race from there as well, and never really got my head in the right place until after pit 2, when I started to run consistently again.

With about 10 laps to go, I could tell Dragon was catching me (to lap me), so I decided to make it my goal to not let that happen. I had some good laps, but not good enough, and on lap 34 (35 for Dragon) I went long, and almost off in the Final turn (big surprise), and stayed wide, and slow so Dragon could pass cleanly.
I followed Dragon really closely for 4 laps, and set the fastest lap on lap 37 where I was about 2 feet off his rear bumper down the front straight.
Realizing that he was close enough to WRP that he might catch him, I didn't accelerate out of turn 1 so they could fight it out without interference from me.
I do remeber thinking "they're going to be close"....and they certainly were 👍

Had a fun race with pratically everyone - but almost never saw WRP except when he went in for pit 1.

@Sagaris - no need to apologize, we had some fun tight racing 👍
Turn 1 was a mess once when you went in too fast due to drafting, but I saw you coming so I stayed wide, got hit pretty hard, but we both got through ok.
Later, you passed me again in the straight and made the pass cleanly before the turn, but you again went long, and it looked at the time like you were trying to let me take the position, all the while I was trying to let you back in  Pretty darn sporting 👍

I'm so looking forward to Nurburgring, it's not funny.
I simply love that track in all of it's layouts.
Besides Suzuka, and Fuji (thanks to GT5Prologue) it's the track I've probably driven the most.
When GT5 came out, I would just jump in any of my favourite cars and drive it with the in-car view, and nothing else on (hud, map, etc.)
I actually bought Shift just to have the track in HD until GT5 came out.

See you all on Sunday, and Saturday as well for some 👍

If you were part of his season 1 you would know that midi45(or something along that lines) won every race with a Denso sard. At monza he was rear ended 1st chcaine but still came from behind and won by 35 secs or so.

One more stat from Monza just for the archives and planning for next year's events:

  • My one stop strategy race (and the win) produced an average lap time of 1'45.922 over a sample of 37 laps.
  • Dragons two stop strategy (1 second off the win) produced an average lap time of 1'45.302 over a sample of 35 laps.
Those times exclude any in/out laps as well as the first lap.

There's no way somebody punted on the first chicane into last place *this season* would have won the race running mid 1'45s... forget winning by 30 seconds.

But for returning drivers is it going to be first come first serve... or will people who did not get to run a GT-R this season get to pick a GT-R first... or will it be reverse order of championship points?

The good thing about reverse order is it will mix it up completely. The bad thing is if the people picking first are the ones not committed to showing up regularly (therefore fewer points).

So maybe a cutoff that they had to *finish* and score points in at least 6 of the 10 races this season to get priority picks or something along those lines. Sag would have a shot since his 6th race would be next week. Brettcee would have an early pick. Terrible would have to complete the race next week since he's only got 5 finishes in 9 races this year.

The truth is there are 4 good GT-Rs so the first 8 are pretty good slots which pretty much means all the committed drivers from this season (excluding me) would get a GT-R and Dragon would end up back in his "heavy" AUTECH MOTUL picking last.

  1. Sagarismic
  2. Brettcee
  3. Gamest
  4. Terrible1Fi
  5. TJ
  6. Hydro
  7. KK
  8. Dragon

Of course, that assumes all these drivers sign up next season. All others would have to do their TJ-like "apprenticeship" in a Lexus or NSX.

Curious: What's wrong with the Nismo Z? I've never driven it, but why is it not included?

For testing you guys may want to start right here with this "homologization":

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=6052746#post6052746

The extra power and weight makes them harder cars to handle though and *much* tougher on tires. The opposite approach may be to homologate the cars with the GT-Rs set at 492-496 hp making them easier to handle and promoting closer racing. You might be able to get the Lexus in line with just a little more hp and not having to resort to a turbo.

i can drive an nsx just as fast watch it. I'd really like to see what i could do an a calsonic, yellowhat, or xanavi but its what gamesta decides there. i'd like the supras as well so if through our testing of the cars we could include the premium supras as well and maybe have them for next season would be great, or kindly ask pure if we could possibly borrow there car regulations and maybe work off of that to make the cars even as possible and being easy to enforce.

and as for the success ballest system, real life super gt uses it, my saturday night race league uses it and maybe takes 2 mins with a list of 6 drivers with wieght to get going.

we use podium finishers !st 60 kg 2nd 40kg 3rd 20kg, and this accumilates as long as you finish on the podium, and when you don't finish there you get 20kg taken off of and wieght penalties you have. this helps alot with making racing more closer amongst everyone on the grid.

For Car selection I am still mulling it over how I am going to proceed as it's always been a first come first serve basis, what I may do is as WRP suggested if you have finished 6 races out of 10 you have choice to stay in your current car and a switch will depend on how many points you have total. But hopefully the testing will prove decent and no matter what car you use you will be competive as I would like to try out the Takata or Petronas for a season but as I said before my alligance to nissan draws me to that brands involved cars.

I would have joined WRS in 2005-2006, but at the time it required a gameshark to prove lap times. I don't know how things have changes, but right now I am content running online race series and working on my driving by other means.

Here's another way Gamesta could do. Assign drivers that have finished half the races (5/10) each a coefficient based on their finishing position and participation. The formula for such a coefficient might be:

(100/P)*(F^2)

P = Points before penalties
F = Race finishes

With such a ranking based on order of coefficients, drivers that have participated every week will be rewarded (such as Dragon and Gamesta) in addition to low finishing drivers. Of the drivers that have 5 finishes so far, Brettcee would have the highest coefficient at 64.3 and kk the lowest at 7.3 because of his missed races and usual high finishing positions. So the current picking order would be:
  1. Brettcee
  2. Gamesta
  3. TJC
  4. Sagarismic
  5. Terrible1Fi
  6. WRP
  7. Dragon
  8. Hydro (only counting his GT-R results, moves up to 5th if we count it all)
  9. KK
I think this would be more fair to the drivers that show up every week and were here from the start. This is another option that Gamesta can go with.
