After watching the replay's I have to say apart for some driver errors (getting on grass off line etc..)there was some very close racing and all the issues in the first test session will slowly dicipate the more we race together. Just a few things to focus on next practice.

So for Daytona and Indy next week

- Getting Comfortable with Pit Exit and Pit Entry.

- Getting Comfortable with anticipating others breaking points.

- Getting Comfortable with Overtaking.(picking a corner or spot to pass rather than trying to overtake every corner)

The reason I say that you don't win the championship in the first two laps is because I was able to obtain the championship last season without winning a single race, I managed a consistant race every race and got in 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th places and won the season with the most points you would be surprised what can happen in a 35 lap race or the 20 laps at sarthe where the race starts as the sun sets. Mistakes happen but with the amount of laps the chances of getting a good points finish is always there.

With all that I want to say I am really excited for this season as it looks like we have a very dedicated grid so the competion will be tough and I think it will shape up to the best season yet in this Super GT series.

Great work Gamesta 👍

Words to live by

Have a good week guys!

Observation: In online mode in a lounge with "Tire Wear/Fuel Consumption"= OFF the car has much more grip then with that setting ON. Even when tires are warm and in very good condition turning this setting ON reduce grip and increases lap time.

Question: Is it possible when you turn off the Fuel Consumption option they take away the weight factor of the fuel?

That's sure what it feels like to me... On the Suzuka "S" turns I can fling the car around a lot easier with this option Off. Just curious if it's car weight which may equalize as the fuel drops or just a difference in physics (higher grip) not related to weight.

Also if you report a practice lap time you should probably report the setting of this option as it can make more than a second difference. (Almost as much of a difference as tires on some tracks). Or just always run with tire wear ON which is what we'll always be running.

I can tell you that the extra fuel does weigh the car down (for me atleast) full tank to less than a quarter of a tank is a second difference....

The next practice schedule sounds good , it will be good for me to see how my braking zones sync with everyone elses. 👍

I hope we can maintain a full grid for this season & beyond , racing with 16 is so much better than say , 10 or less.

I'm off to practice in my Denso ,
Have a great day guys.

:)

Yes I will be checking that everyone is within the Speed limit during pitting for both on enter and exit within the white line.

So if your going to pit at Fuji Slow down to 75 MPH at the start of the pit entrance (white lines) on the straight as well as on the exit until the end of the white line you must adhere to the 75mph speed limit and yeild for any traffic coming down the straight.

(WARNING: more rambling and questions from me below... sorry )

This 75 MPH pit lane thing puts me off a bit. Especially on exit where it can seem to take forever to hit the white line... For reference in the rest of this post, there are two white lines designating the pit lane exit area:
  1. a parallel line that separates the pit exit area from the regular track
  2. a perpendicular line that signals the end of the "reduced speed zone"
So if I understand correctly for exit:
  • You have to stay within line 1 the *entire* pit exit area (until the end of the line). All 4 tires inside that line or in other words NO tires fully over the line (I think that's how F1 does it).
  • You have to keep speed at 75MPH until any part of your car crosses the perpendicular line (ii). At which point you can use the rest of the designated pit area to "get up to speed"
Personally I think the first rule is good, relative easy to enforce and there isn't that much to gain when breaking the rule so incentive to try and get away with something is relatively low. Yes, cutting to other side of track in some cases can get you a better angle for Turn 1, but it's not that much given you aren't at full speed and not worth a penalty.

However, the second is tough and going to cause you (Gamsta) a lot of work, plus frankly I don't like it. Pushing the limit here (maybe going 80 instead of 75) is going to gain you an advantage vs other drivers so there is incentive to get away with a little. Gamesta -- you are going to have to commit to watch every pit lane exit and anytime the speed goes to 76 you give a penalty.. yikes! Or other races can watch replay themselves and report incidents, etc. So that everyone knows there is no getting away with *anything* and everyone understands the rules. It's like street driving, most of us tend to push our luck unless we know there's a cop watching  And no gray area in speed limit. Real drivers have a device in the car to help, but it's not easy with these cars so I can see going over by accident trying to keep it as close to 75 as possible so as not to be at a disadvantage. Also, if drivers do stick to 75 or under and get in gas only after the perpendicular line then the speed difference between oncoming traffic at the end of the pit lane marker is very high and merging in could be worse than if you allow driver to get more up to speed. (This can be track dependent, but Suzuka is going to be tough to merge in anywhere even close to oncoming traffic at slow speeds as the speed difference could be approaching 100MPH with really no where to go for merging pit exit cars).

You'd have a lot less work if you just strictly enforce staying within the line on exit, but let drivers accelerate as much as they want once the AI returns control to the driver as long as they practice safe re-entry. And on entry just a warning to go slow enough not to get "stuck" on pit entry.

Anyone else have an opinion on pit speed limits?

I'm Ok with whatever you decide, but I'd rather see us do something like the WSCC series:
- No violation of the pit exit white line. (Only one warning before 10sec penalty per incident is given)
- Slow down when entering the pits. Going full speed into the pits often causes issues with auto-pilot resulting in car getting stuck and blocking pit.
Or GTP Le Man Prototype Series:
Pit Lane: You must use the proper pit lane entry & exit section of the track. You must also slow down before entering the pit lane. (tracks like laguna you cannot enter the pits @ race speed) Drivers are not allowed to cross pit exit line when re-entering the track.

I can't find another series that imposes a pit speed limit.

Note: This would be cool if the game itself would impose a penalty (or black flag) and you could set pit lane speed as host in race options, but IMO it's just not worth it if it's policed by eye for a full grid with 35 laps and potentially 40+ pit stop exits to watch carefully on replay.

I will have a hard time maintaining speed out more than in with traffic around. I will be looking at map and mirror as to not wreck anyone and may not be able to look at the speed gauge.

Which pit entrance do we use at Suzuka?
The long road in at Suzuka is correct I think.
Which pit exit is enforced for DRC exit?
Long road out is correct for DRC for sure.

looool...If I had the turbo I would be an additional one second quicker...

Pit Lane Speed Convo- I agree that when exiting the pits I dont think I will be looking at the speedometer instead of the oncoming Lexus in my mirrors....15 drivers X 2 pit stops = 30 Pit exits to watch out for...I really think its unneccesary but its your call...I do think that slowing down before entering is important as most pit lanes have tight sections before the pit lane which requires you to slow down otherwise the AI crashes into the wall...Slowing down enough to avoid an incident instead of slowing down to 75mph is my view on this...👍

Pitstop speed limits , a tricky one....

I'm fine with the rules as they are , and I would like to try it to see how it all works and fits together. So whatever the rules are , I will stick by them.

I can see the issues that have been raised though , Suzuka will be dangerous as the approaching cars will be taking the racing line. A shunt at the apex at turn 1 will lead to problems between racers I think. But , as it states in the rules , it is the driver rejoining the tracks responsibility to give way.

I agree that will be alot of work for the OP also , but if he's cool with that then i'm cool with it also.

I'm fine either way.

👍

great pics hydro, love seeing pics and videos of races. if i knew how to make vids i would for each race, just need somebody to give a tutorial and tell me what hardware i need to get by to make em. i've got very good laptop, hdmi hookup etc.

Ok, I am going to try my best to explain the Pitting rules as they are not as clear as I previously thought. Ok Here it goes. I am raising the Maximum back to 100MPH

Upon Entering Pitlane you must Slow to 100 MPH Staying within the white lines going into the pits. Upon Exiting the Pits one must stay within the Pitlines at a Maximum of 100mph until the line is "gone" so to speak and must Yeild for any and all oncomming traffic meaning if there is a car coming down the straight and you are exiting they have right of way. I instituted this rule in season 1 to ensure that no one merges into anyone upon exiting pitlane. I hope I explained this better and will update the OP as well.

Now the some Pictures from Sunday

I have all the hardware capable of capturing a video replay and can post replays/highlights to youtube. Now I just have to remember to save the darn replays. You can search GTPlanet forums for various hardware required. Personally, I have the Hauppage PVR, but there are other solutions. You can't record using HDMI from PS3 because of the copy protection (HDCP) unless you manage to bipass it somehow (there are ways for the technically inclined). The Hauppage actually does the capture via YPbPr component cables so limited to 1080i/720p, but they look great. If you want to see an example of the quality check out this WRS replay (not by me, but same equipment). There are a lot on that thread, but picked that one because both Hydro and I are in the replay  One replay as opposed to three on the screen at once looks even better.

Sounds good Gamesta and thanks for the clarification. 👍 What's the penalty for speeding on pit lane? A points deduction per incident I suppose.

Yes, it's a point deduction 1 Point for Every MPH crossing Pitlines to get on track faster will cost 10 points or more depending on what happens.

If anyone is interested, I'm posting a transmission tune sheet PDF here to keep track of settings from track to track.
Keeping up was making me a bit

It's a cut and paste job made from the tune sheets GTP_Jake posted in the tuning section.

If you want the full sheet, just use GTP_jake's!

that is freaking sweet, but definately can't invest that much right now. will have to save up for that cuz i want it haha

These work really well too, and can be found for about 20 bucks. BB lists @ 35, but I got one for 20 in Canada, so You will find it cheaper as well somewhere.
Only SD, but pretty sweet for 20$!

Just so i'm absolutely clear on this rule ( As I don't want to lose any points if possible lol ) , the white line on exit , does it refer to -

- a perpendicular line that signals the end of the "reduced speed zone"

or

- a parallel line that separates the pit exit area from the regular track

Sorry if this is clear already & i've just misunderstood lol.

100mph =👍

To make it easier for everyone even myself I am going to take Pictures (picture=1000 words) of all the Pit Exit Entrances and post here, some of the pits are a little confusing (daytona being one) and I can't find the words to describe what I want to type.

I am running some tests in my lounge to get pit strategy worked and tweaks to my setup alll are welcome to join.

Sounds good Gamesta.

I just saw you online , but I missed your post on the thread and now it's 4.30am
Next time it is.

👍

Anyone who wants to add my PSN , just hit me up with a FR ( My second PSN at the moment though )

I think most everyone has attended one of the last two practice sessions... maybe with the exception of Biffy. Biffy runs the WRS now and ran this series last season so I assume he's pretty reliable and assume he is still interested even though I haven't seen anything from him in this thread at all.

Biffy... you out there? Are you coming to play on Sunday? FYI, Biffy qualified D2-Gold for WRS so he must be pretty darn fast 👍

@WRP001

Thanks for letting me know, there's another reserve driver before me, looks like i could have a wait on my hands:lol:
Must say pit lane speed limit sounds interesting:)

I sure hope Biffy does join..I want revenge from last season after he beat me in Sarthe...:)

Actually it was between me and Biffy Last season and three points Due to circumstances he was unable to attend the last of the races.

Welcome Ohno. :)

Hope you enjoy racing with us.

Yeah I know mate but I came second in Sarthe after he won the race and Sarthe is kinda my favourite track...Thats the point I was making...👍
