Haas
If we could even win one race in five races that’d be a tremendous success.

It certainly would.

Please don't tell me this is another person who thinks they can waltz in and start winning 'pretty soon'. It just brings back recent memories of Caterham, in the words of Mike Gascoyne, playing with the big boys. And then there was BAR. Yawn.

Never say never of course, even Jordan managed a 1-2... once.

At the 128th attempt after 8 years in a crash-heavy race and in an era of far more frequent mechanical maladies for the opposition, front or back.

With Caterham (and Marussia) seemingly all but gone, I'm wondering if Gene Haas is wondering why he is bothering at all.

@Liquid I'm not saying it was easy, likely, or that Ralf/Eddy ever spoke again, but on the record books for that day Jordan finished 1/2. Still, aiming for 1 win out of 5 would have been considered ludicrous, as is Haas's claim (if accurately reported).

And I agree, he must be wondering why he's bothering although maybe he sees that conditions might be about to change for smaller teams in the light of recent events.

@Liquid Fair enough about the lack of reliability etc etc but Jordan would have won the Belgium Grand Prix in their first season had it not been for an engine failure.

Still, it should get harder to do as time passes with greater levels of reliability.

I think it was a misquote of one race in five years.

Who knows, you've got to talk big for the sponsors I guess... but yes, it's fair to think he said "one race in five years" and they missed the last word :)

Do you have a timelapse of Maldonado parking at that facility? It's the same film in reverse, basically.

Man I hope this house HAAS F1 works out. We could possibly get a second purpose built track here in America if they actually scored some points and look like they're going to make a future in F1 like Force India for example.
With MuRussia and cater gone it should be a little easier for them, but at the same time I don't know if there's another team getting ready to jump in the sport or now that the other two teams are out?

Yeah they bought the whole factory! XD

That slick son of a gun...and he said he wasn't interested in having a European base. :p
Uh... no. He never said that. He wanted a base in Europe to have the cars worked on between races.

The main facility is still in Kannapolis, NC.

I hope that he rehires those who lost their job, I know F1 is a fickle business especially on the back end but still. It may be funny that the guy has this type of coin (which we all knew he did) to buy up a business that is now gone at the most opportune time but still people did lose their family income.

I disagree that haas should just rehire those individuals who lost their jobs...maybe the critical individuals, but IMO haas should be focused on bringing top engineering talent into his organization, even if he has to poach it from top teams or NASA for all I care.

Who says they weren't top, I mean let's put it into perspective, Adrian Newey started at Leyton House and designed one of the best low budget F1 cars of the late 80s/early 90s but even still it didn't perform all that well and had tons of technical glitches and management that was horrid. Same thing here the builders and guys putting the cars together aren't to blame and less reasonable to hire than a John Booth that was at Marussia as the guy that ran the team (even though I like the guy).

The reason it's smart to hire them is because they know how to build a car, they know how the system works and have been trained in it and that's a better start than guys from NASA that have no clue. It's just not how the industry works, if you can hit the ground running you should, and Haas is showing he understands that already by saving money and buying what already exists. I'm saying he should continue that trend.

Leyton House's wind tunnel was in the same city as I live in!

It would be great to have them mixing it up in a couple of seasons, do wonders for the US market and would get another pair of seats on the grid.

Do I think it'll be successful, no - sorry its just so unlikely to happen as we've seen from the 2010 entrants

I think the things that HAAS have going for them are Fezza power, modern development facilities (rolling wind shear thingy they have in North Carolina), the ex-Red Bull/exex-Jaguar lead designer, Dallara, and American grit. :p I think that they can at least be on Force India or Lotus levels of success. Especially if they can land decent drivers.

Terrible mindset to have. USF1 was failed from the beginning.

Haas F1 Team has already made it further than USF1 ever did.

He never mentioned USF1. The 2010 entrants were HRT, Lotus/Caterham and Virgin/Marussia. All 3 are now gone, and only scored 1 point-scoring finish between them. Shows just how hard it is to start from scratch in F1.

I think Haas will do better, especially as they have a full year to prepare. I'm not expecting any miracles though.

What do you mean Mercedes AMG won a WDC and WCC last season :sly:
