Getting a PS3 this weekend 9/26/08. Time for some questions.

I watched 10,000 bc last night in blu-ray and played another hour of MGS4. Added 10,000 bc to the first post.

Oh God, I'm sorry you had to watch 10,000 B.C. that film was downright awful. I'm sure it looked good though, which is probably a saving point.

You really need to get your hands on Plant Earth, Discovery Atlas, or Blue Planet to really see HD shine. I don't know if you go to Blockbuster or do Netflix for your rentals but I know Netflix does have them.

We saw 10,000 bc in the theaters when it came out and I agree its not the best movie. It looked decent in blu-ray but not as good as I expected it to look. For this month only we have been renting at Blockbuster using the rent all you can for a month. I will write down your suggestions because so far I have only seen a couple movies that look reallly good on blu-ray. We will be renting Ratatouille and Iron Man in blu-ray for sure this weekend. How long are those 3 movies you suggested?

Planet Earth is an entire series that was on tv. Either on the Discovery Channel or National Geographic. But it looks absolutely amazing on blu ray.

I rented Iron Man, Ratatouille, and Dinosaur on blu-ray. Dinosaur is incredible in blu-ray. The quality is right up there with Cars. Ratatoullie also looked very good. Iron Man looked good but not as good as I expected. I updated the list in the first post.

I also played MGS4 for a few more hours this weekend.

Spoiler warning.

I am on scene 3 and I just got onto the bike with Big Momma. Sneaking through the city on the beginning of this level sucked. Looks like its getting better now that I am on the bike.

The opinions on this one go both ways. Some people loved it and others hated it.

Personally I felt that the whole noir feeling it had was awesome.

As you are getting into Act IV I hope you have played the past games. That makes it much more enjoyable.

I just hate slow pace sneaking games and was hoping I wouldnt run into a level forcing me to do that. I beat it on my first try (after rocketing a few helicopters) but it sure seemed cheesy at times. If I got too close to the guy he freaked out but I could still shoot my extremely loud sniper to kill a guard for him. lol At least its over and hopefully I can run and gun again.
EDIT: SPoiler alert.
I forgot to mention that the graphics in that laughing Octopus lady were really good. That whole boss battle was awesome.

So now you play many games.. You decided to keep the PS3?

By the way. I think now you should quit that 30 dollar blockbuster payment and start buying some games. At least once a month, or every two months. Take it easy man. Seems you try too many games at the same time and really not getting into any game that much...
:)

I am still planning on returning the PS3 by the end of the month. Probably the 18th.
That $30.00 a month was just for this month while I have the PS3. I actually hate Blockbuster and never rent from them but they are the only store in our area that rents blu-ray. So the 30 was well worth it for this month especially when you consider how much we have rented already. Games are $8.00 each and BR movies are $5.00 each.
This is how much we would have spent without the $30.00 deal.
6 games $48.00
9 movies $45.00

$5 for a Blu-Ray rental? The video store I go to is $1.97 for a one night and $2.47 for 7 night. Same price for DVD's, actually. I'm not sure about game rental prices.

Yeah, the Ps3 is an amazing system alone. Games are a given. I have Iron Man 2-disc SE BR too :). Getting the Pirates collection soon .

Now I have around 9 1/2 hours into MGS4. The end of mission 3 sure made up for the beginning of it. That entire scene on the bike with Big Momma was a lot of fun. I am on the 4th mission and I am at the part where he enters the building that he used to be at in one of the other MGS games. Hopefully I will be finished with this by the end of the week so I can check out other exclusive PS3 titles. I still want to check out Motorstorm, Warkawk, and some of the other suggested games in this thread. I would also like to re-rent Uncharted and GT5P.

It's a shame you're returning your PS3. 👎

Have you checked Call of Duty 4 yet? The new one's coming out in November, but this one is pretty amazing for the whole time you make your way to level 55 online. You should deff. consider renting it.

I played COD4 on the 360. I was even in the beta before it came out. I will be checking out the new one (COD5) for sure on the 360 especially with the 4 player co-op campaign modes. Looks like it will be really good. I was just hoping the new COD would have matchmaking.

I will take that as either a no, or that you didn't have as much nostalgia as I did. :ouch: I'm hoping you were just avoiding giving spoilers.

I'm waiting to see how this Act treats you by the end.

The only Metal Gear I ever played was the 2nd one and I played all the way through it. I am sure people that played the other games would really appreciate mission 4.
So do you think I should just quit playing MGS4 at this point or is it about to get even better?

WHAT!!!! Without the backstory? That thing was confusing enough when I had just finished MGS1 three days before starting it.

I am sure people that played the other games would really appreciate mission 4.
I am starting to understand why you are finding it just average. The story has to be confusing you. The story is one of the things that make MGS great. Although, some people find it to be too much. I'm just one of those people who found Halo's story to be extremely weak, somewhat of a ripoff, and Halo 2 just ruined it. So, for me MGS was perfect for what I wanted.

Here is what I find funny: You liked the Big Momma bike scene, and you have no clue why it is important to the overall story.

So do you think I should just quit playing MGS4 at this point or is it going to get better?
At least finish Act IV. If you thought the end of Act III was fun you'll love Act IV's ending....I hope.

And by that point I would say that you only have another hour to beat Act V, especially if you skip the cutscenes.

I only played MGS2 because it was a game Heathers brother gave to me to borrow. So I decided to check it out but never understood what was going on.
I liked the Big Momma scene in MGS4 because it was loaded with action. As I have stated before I love games with action and hate sneaking around. I actually watched all of the cut scenes besides the mission 4 brief scenes. Yes I am pretty much lost trying to understand the story at all. The entire "Guns of the patriots" scene was really awesome the way Liquid manipulated everything, but I honestly didnt know why it was all happening. I really had no idea what the Big Boss body corpse thing was about at all.
I will try to stick with it until the end but it looks like this is a game I just wont be able to appreciate since I didnt play the other games besides MGS2.

You're just predisposed to being an Xbox360 fanboy. You dont like games that you have to sneak around in. And can I just say that I have never played any of the MGS games, but I played through MGS4, and I loved it. I watched every cutscene, and sure, some of it was a little confusing, but the story isnt that hard to follow. Once you finish the game, things should be a little more clear for you though.

A fanboy is someone who is closeminded and wont even give other consoles a chance. I am in no way a fanboy. If I was I wouldnt have even considered a PS3. I will eventually get a PS3 but I will wait until it drops in price and comes out with more exclusive titles. I never said MGS4 wasnt a good game. You are just hearing what you want to hear. Also keep in mind I had a PS2 much much longer than I ever had an xbox. So I give everything a chance and at this point in time the PS3 is not for me.
Also there are not any xbox360 games that I will play if they are sneaking games either.

Well, there is a full-length feature film at the end. If you don't have at least a decent idea of what is going on after that you have problems.

But I don't blame him for not liking sneaking games. A lot of people, even PS3 fanboys, don't like that aspect. I don't like run-n-guns. Although I will say that Timesplitters does appeal to me in some goofy way. It could be the monkey, I don't know.

It was a joke man calm down. I just thought it was funny that you said you dont like games that you had to sneak around in, cause one of the best exclusives for the PS3 is a game that rewards the player for sneaking around. And I know you arent a fanboy, cause you did give it a chance. But I have a sneaking suspicion that you knew you werent going to keep the console before you even tried it out and honestly I dont like it when people take advantage of return policies. So spend the money now, or spend it later. Not much of a difference in my opinion. And do you realize that most of the good exclusives for the PS3 are coming out within a few weeks of you returning your console?

I am calm. I have been here 4 years and if you havent noticed I buy things all the time like this, same with cars. 99% of the time when I buy something I keep it. Its actually a great marketing strategy because most consumers will keep what they buy even though there is a 30 day return policy. This is just one of the few instances where I just dont feel its worth the money. Also like I said above, I dont play any 360 games that are sneaking either. For those that dont have a 360 then the PS3 is a very very good console. No doubt about that. But for me its not worth having it. Which is really strange since I remember the time when I had 2 xbox consoles and 2 PS2s and 2 PCS all in my house at the same time. lol I will eventually have it, just not this year.

Thats fair. But 30 day return policies arent meant for you to try out what you buy. Youre wasting the retailers money, because they cant sell that console anymore, it gets defected out, and sent back. It just doesnt seem right to me, but I do hope that in the future you will have a ps3, I have a feeling you'll feel like youre missing out on some great exclusives.

I agree. This generation of consoles are somewhat expensive to get all of them early on and then the only really big differences are in 1st party exclusives.

For me as long as there is a Gran Turismo there will be a PlayStation in my home. And I really like Metal Gear Solid, although I admit I never played any of them until I had a PS3, then I bought the boxed set of 1-3. It is now my favorite series behind Gran Turismo.

As for a 360: I don't like Halo, in fact I keep getting killed because I try to be sneaky. And Gears of War was fun but I felt that the only new thing it really brought to the table was a chainsaw attached to a gun. It's like they took the really cool things about Doom II and made it into one weapon.

I see things I want on the 360, but none of them are yet worth the price to me. I have enough friends with 360s that I have played them plenty and some of the stuff seems really cool but not enough to shell out a few hundred more dollars.

The only thing on 360 that I really, really wanted was Bioshock and that has taken care of itself. That combined with the upcoming Netflix thing almost had me sold, until I realized Bioshock was coming to the PS3. I have Netflix on my PC, so it wasn't cost-effective.

To each their own, and I can easily see how MGS is a love it or hate it thing. I always find it funny that those who love it do so for the same reasons those who don't complain about it (sneaking, cutscenes).

Anyway, sorry the PS3 isn't a good suit for you, if just because it means one less person on my friend's list.

Good reply FoolKiller. I appreciate all the suggestions, feedback, support, and the open minded replies from everyone in here. 👍

No offense to you CB69, but you have played and enjoyed some fairly terrible games on the 360 :P

Still, I hope one day you come back and enjoy all the titles you're currently missing out on. There are a ton of great games I've seen you haven't even tried, either way, hope everything pans out for you for the better, as a gamer.

I'm just waiting for it to return the PS3 and start having some real fun with its favorite system....and it calls others fanboys....the irony.
This has got to be the stupidest thread ever on GtPlanet....the saga of the confused fanboy suffering from buyers remorse.

To be fair, everyone has different tastes. I just think it's both foolish and ridiculous to return a system after such a short period of time and say it's "not worth it".
