socom, I'll suggest that you drive a 4th gen Camaro/Firebird V6 with a 5spd manual. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised on how much fun they actually are. And in the Firebird's case they even look pretty damn good for V6's. You can get T-Tops, Foglights, nice rims, the lot for real cheap. And it won't be as much insurance as the VWs or the V8's. Just a suggestion.

P.S. 4th gen Firebird/Camaro 3.8L V6's get from 0-60mph in 7.3~7.5s or so. And do a 16s ¼mi. Not bad for something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

He will be driving a 4th gen Camaro V6 this weekend I think, he'll drive an auto just to see what they're like to drive.

Edit: That's probably just killing a dead cat me saying that. Oh well.

You live in Oz, get a Commodore/Falcon. And when you say learning the road- do you mean sports driving? Plus can I say- you said you were allowed $10k for a RWD car- wouldn't a GTS-t Skyline be better for you than the GTR? Less power, RWD, similar styling. Stll though, get a Commodore/Falcon.

I wouldn't be caught dead driving a Commodore/Falcon. I have enough nightmares as it is with all those P-Plate idiots driving around with their caps backward, playing music with bass that shatters the roads. Yes, the GTS-t is a true RWD, but nothing compares to the GTR. I don't really care for the non-GTR variants.

You want a sporty good handling car, a first gen Miata/MX5 is a great choice and can be picked up fairly cheap.

True, that would be my second choice.

Are you even allowed to have a turbo or V8 on your P's in Vic? Or is that just NSW?

No, you're not allowed to have a turbocharged or V8 engine on your P's in Victoria. The current P-plate laws are illogical anyway; the only purpose they serve is to force young, relatively inexperienced drivers into arguably more dangerous, decrepit old junkers. And as much as I like to respect the law, the laws regarding Probationary driving are flawed and need the disapproval and subsequent defiance of the community to prove that obvious fact. I will be one of them.

But I'm not even on my P's, this vehicle will be for my learner's. 👍

So why are you looking at R32 GTR's then if you wont be able to drive one on your P's anyway?

Because I'll have a new car by then. Besides, it doesn't mean I can't drive a GTR. It just means I need to maintain a 'sleeper' style car and be very careful of the Police.

Thats just stupid, Police clamp down on Imports like that (I know all about it), especially P platers. Your parents will buy you a car like a GTR for your first car (rolleyes), epecially considering it is also illegal for you?

Oh and sleeper style is overplayed, one of my friends has a 1994 R32 Skyline GTR which he turned 'sleeper' style by removing the wing etc (good V -Spec II sytle wing, leaving holes in the mean time). I always give him crap about it.

They have no idea about the specifications of a Nissan GTR, let alone how much power they have or whether it is legal (which yes, they will eventually find out once it's here, but if I can't drive it I can always sell it or leave it for when I turn 21).

See Viper, he judged the local cars by the Bogans and hoons that drive them. You ever seen the guys driving GTRs GT Pro? Yeah I'd rather be driving a Holden too.

Yes, I have; they are nowhere near as bad as the Commodore drivers. I'd still much rather drive a GT-R. 👍

Police have no idea?? Are you crazy? They have been dealing with these imports and moron drivers for many years, some cops have caught on well to the tricks.

but in your case........ You arn't allowed drive any turbocharged engined car, and atleast half of R32's on the streets are turbocharged. Not to mention how do you hide the sound, spooling on GTR's and GTS-t's is very apparent even at low engine loads.

Unless cops in Vic are absolute dumbasses, you will have a lot of headaches with a GTR, not to mention it's a hit or miss with these 15+ year old GTR's brought over cheap. If you really want a GTR, do it properly or don't bother at all. (I personally wouldn't even get a R32 GTR)

Yep, like I say there are always too sides to the fence.

You must have misinterpreted my comment. I said my parents had no idea of the specifications of the GTR. Of course the Police do.

Suit yourself, I intend to ignore the drivers as much as possible, I just think it's unfair when someone judges a car by the drivers. Most people I see driving GT-Rs are metros but I try and keep my opinions about the car about the car. Yes I said I didn't like that Skyline in the cars you didn't know of thread because of the one I seen, that was just my revenge.

I'm sorry for them you are stringing them along then.

Haha

It's only $10,000. I don't think they would care that much. And, as I said before, selling it after bringing it here wouldn't be out of the option either. 👍

Only $10k he says- That's a bit of money in my books to throw away- to spend on a car that you want to keep it isn't much.

Only 10k? Now you sound like a brat and I feel even more sorry for them.

Suit yourself, but the bottom-line is I have roughly $10,000 to purchase a vehicle that I can learn on. I want a GTR, and I can bring one here for little more than that sum, so why not? The only hindrance is the law. Yes, the law that states that no Probationary driver can drive a V8 or turbocharged vehicle. But the law isn't always good and great for the community as it is intended to be. One way a person can show their diapproval of a law is via the defiance of that law. I live in a democratic society, and I have every right to represent my view by driving one of these down the street and into town. And simply because the sum of $10,000 means less to me than it does to you does not mean I am a brat. I'm sorry if the concept of purchasing a vehicle, that I have the right to purchase, that means more to me than abiding by a law brought about by the knee-jerk reactions of politicians does not make sense to you. But it does to me, and I have the right to make my own choices in life.

Now we've cleared that up, let's get back on topic shall we and discuss the original matter presented to us by Socomplayer.

Ignoring the rest of the post, because frankly I can't be bothered with how wrong it is

You would think MUCH more of $10,000 when you have to earn that money yourself. If I were your parents I would be ashamed of you if I saw you like this..... :indiff:

But you're not his parents so drop it. He was right- he has a right to choose to live the way he wants. If it's inproper then he will be caught by the law. Now I wait for socomplayer2's feelings on driving the Camaro (if he gets to).

But you're not his parents so drop it. He was right- he has a right to choose to live the way he wants.

He is on his P plates anyway so he doesn’t have the demerit points to play around with by “making a stand” and defying the law. I’m just waiting for a post in 6 months when he’s lost his license where he tells us he’s choosing to drive without a license in the name of democracy.

Seriously, grow up.

Then he gets in bigger trouble- why is it our duty to stop him? Most of us don't even live in the same country let alone the same state or city. Let him make his own decisions.

It’s not our duty to stop him. But I will share the road with him and I’m perfectly entitled to remind him that there are consequences to his actions. Considering his maturity he’s not even ready to be on the road let alone driving a 10k import which he can’t afford to run or insure.

I have a feeling that since he is planning on learning in that car he will have more power than talent and I can see that ending poorly, especially with this attitude that he is above the law.

Also, he thinks the P-plate laws are stupid, and with that I pretty much agree. But, if you object to the law strongly enough you can go ahead and protest, but don’t break it because you think it’s stupid. Breaking it involves consequences that he’s probably not going to handle too well.

Probably to all you just said.

And socomplayer2: Good luck, hope you spot something or another that you can afford and like...

Then wait and think about it before buying.

Meh, you're just starting out. You want something you can beat up and not worry about it.

One of those, with the 4A-C, and a stick. Will start every time, get you where you need to go, keep you out of trouble, and you can drop a 4A-GE in when you want to get into trouble.

I own an AE82 4-door with the 4A-C and an Auto. and a Chevrolet badge, but that's aside the point: it's a good, solid car for minimal money.
