So Deegan will not participate in the final because he was penalized for "Short-cutting the course and Aggressive driving", but Nelson still gets nothing from the contact he made earlier?

Also, what happened to the LCQ? Is that no longer in effect at X-games?
Yeah That and the one against Sandell were total crap calls. Congrats to Scott Speed and Volkswagen on becoming the next Toomas Heikinnen with winning two events in a row. Can't wait to see everybody (except Travis sadly/ironically) in DC in a few weeks.

Sidenote: with how well the Polos are doing, I don't think Andretti really should switch at this point (well, maybe for Tanner's sake since those things clearly hate him)

Travis will probably be back to Rally America. This was a one-off I believe since it's X-Games and him and a few others are mainstays of the X-Games.

While it is a one-off, its too bad. Maybe he'll be DC-bound next year in a Subaru

Tell you what, GTPlanet... that Volkswagen Polo rallycross car driven by Scott Speed looks great. I also like Arpin's Ford and even the Chevy Sonic. The Kobalt Tools Ford Fiesta is a lovely machine as well.

Now on to the racing. The attrition in the heat races was BRUTAL! Nelson Piquet Jr. was pretty overaggressive. I hated to see Tanner Foust roll over on its roof and not advance further in the action. It was some pretty crazy action. All congratulations to the medal recipients from this race.

Glad to see Scott Speed has finally found something he can be good at in his career. Not trying to be mean, but his NASCAR stints weren't impressive lol.

Agreed on all fronts. Though Nelson only got aggressive later on in the event. His crash into Isaachsen was hilarious though. Kinda reminds me of when me and my brother play Dirt 3:lol:. In all seriousness, seems those Polos really don't like Tanner. First the crash and subsequent bad run in Barbados, then one caught in fire and ran like crap in World RX, and now a rollover (which he could have recovered from).

He was a victim of the same terrible development tactic that also turned away Dario Franchitti and Travis Pastrana: being rushed through the ranks and having little to no seat time.

Also victim to Red Bull like he was in open wheel.

One off-topic note about the GRC race in Austin was that I kind of couldn't tell what part of the track was the Joker. I saw the Stadium Super Trucks race earlier today as part of the X-Games, and the wider turn was part of the track while the tighter turn was the Joker part from when I saw that race. Those new to the GRC have to know there's a little shortcut on a track that you must visit but can only use once in a race or a heat. That shortcut is called the Joker.

Bring on the next race! Next round is at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. on the weekend of June 21-22.

Not sure if there is a World Rallycross thread so I'll bump this one instead. World Rallycross is live from Hell (in Norway not where religious people think bad people live) and it's streamed live on their internet page here:

Semi-Finals about to get under way.

Washington, D.C. is ready to rock for some Global Rallycross action this weekend.

The last such motorsports event I can recall in our nation's capital was that race in 2002 for the former American Le Mans Series. That event was on that street course in which Panoz beat those Audi R8 LMPs. This event will be about frenzied rallycross action as only the GRC can provide. I wonder if some of the drivers (including Nelson Piquet, Jr.) will play a bit more nice this weekend compared to the Austin/X-Games round...

After speaking with a couple people from VW who work with it personally, it's gonna be a game-changing machine.
The problem is that the game - the GRC - is extremely ordinary. Why do you think the World RX teams chose the Polo R?

If the Beetle is extraordinary, then won't that aid them?

Yeah, but they're still in a second-rate series.

If it performs well here, maybe Marklund will pick some up for World RX next year? Also, they are having a big Beetle push in the US now.

hsv

Why would they, when they already have access to one of the best rally cars since the Lancia Delta? And considering the sheer dominance of the DS3 prior to the Polo R, that's saying something. There is no reason for Marklund to pick up the Beetle, even if the hype is justified - the Polo R is pretty much guaranteed until 2019.

Because it's not dominating in RX like it is in WRC?

Don't you think that has something to do with the drivers, and not the car?

Let's be brutally honest: the GRC is a rubbish series. It could drop off the face of the planet tomorrow, and few people would be any the wiser, while fewer still would care. A car built specifically for that series is not going to somehow upstage a fully works-supported car like the Polo R.

You said it yourself: Volkswagen are planning a big push to sell Beetles. Do you really want to believe the marketing hype?

I'm not questioning Topi Heikkinen or Marklund, no. It's be stupid to do so; we know how good Topi was in the Fiesta.

GRC is crap, yes. That can't stop a World RX team from buying a car if it shows an inherent advantage.

Marklund Motorsport operate with Volkswagen factory support. Volkswagen make the Polo R WRC, which gets converted across to the Polo RX Supercar variant by Marklund. So they'll take whatever Volkswagen tell them to take, and a supposed advantage in a second car that is yet to be proven won't count for much.

Fear the [New] Beetle? Man! This car is like a beast machine. It will be interesting to see what this car can do in the Global Rallycross Championship.

NOTE: For some reason, I posted this comment last night, but it didn't show. So I am just now posting what I tried to post last night.

The Beetle really was a game changer in D.C.

So much so that Andretti Racing didn't win for the first time this season.

Well it was a little shocking but they didn't even race the Bettle yet (not that I expect it to do well when I like the Polo better).

The irony present at this event was that VW was the host team/company which would have made it the perfect event for the Beetle to race in, but they didn't, and add to that, when the Beetle was revealed over the internet, then the Polos actually had problems for the first time this season right before they are replaced. Fascinating.

Anyhow, I hope the Polos continue to see action in some form after they are replaced. Instead of rotting away in a warehouse in Europe or something

I'd be willing to bet a World RX/British RX driver/team will snap them up.

that sounds about right. Or they could be going to Marklund's satellite team. hmmm
