Honestly, I think it looks ridiculous. When I first saw it, I thought it was a Photoshop job.

Mind you, I think this entire series is ridiculous. It is going to have a hard time competing against World Rallycross.

Not sure why you think they will have a hard time competing and are 2 different styles of rallycross. I would say the fact that RedBull picked it up speaks about the money being made!

Granted I'm with you on the car, I laughed when I saw it and wish they would have kept the Polo (which it shares the same platform for rally). I guess if the Bettle was trying to be pushed we would have got the Polo full-time.

I think the GRC is modelled as entertainment first and sport second, whereas the WRX is being treated as a sport. The FIA do not hand out "world" status lightly, but in doing so, they have made the WRX the more-prestigious championship.

Well true but look at it as far as the drivers who are driving in the series too. Most are big names who bring money to the "sport" while other RX series tend to be about the drivers all together. X-games didn't help the matter either but better than nothing.

Oh dear. Ken Block has decided to release a 2014 promotional image, and it's not very subtle:

Well clearly, but this somehow tops it all with some kind of chavvy look.

Anyone who watches Ken Block's Promos pretty much knows there is no such thing as "subtle".

Also, you guys don't seem to realize the crowd that this series markets towards. There is a reason why this was born from (and in) a X-games event.

Why does everybody in GRC have to describe themselves as 'stoked' after a run?

Because they all come from an extreme sports background, where rallycross is entertainment, rather than a motorsport discipline.

If they were racers, they would say "for sure" a lot.

I have to say 'stoked' annoys the hell out of me
It's like trying to be cool, but falling a little bit short of it.

I've been watching the Olympics a bit, and our local broadcaster has paired one of their veteran commentators up with a recently-retired extreme sports athlete for the trick-based competitions. As the competition has gone on, the veteran has started picking up the ex-athlete's manner of speaking. It's hilarious to hear him say "stomp the landing", among others.

Looks like GRC will have better TV coverage this year. Other than the X-Games Austin round, every event is on NBC/NBCSN.

I learned that NBC and NBC Sports Network will be showing off the Global Rallycross Series this season. All nine rounds. I heard Leigh Diffey mention this on "Countdown to F1" just now. That's where I picked up this info. So go get you NBC Sports Network if you don't have it already and want to see the GRC.

So according to the GRC site, Piquet will be running something other than a Mitsubishi and Australian-American Sarah Burgess is running a non-PMR Sonic with both teams presumably carrying full support from GM. Can anyone here elaborate?

It wouldn't surprise me to either see him in a Ford, they have pretty much been the class of the field and have openings now to which Piquet brings money.

Bryan Herta Motorsport will be entering in GRC with Austin Dyne.

Makes sense except as far as I know Olsbergs has no openings as I've heard Deegan is staying with them. Though he has been silent on this so We might have to wait and see.
So, Andretti, and now Herta. Who jumps to the series next?
IMO Mike and Mark Jenkins (The Traxxas guys who currently run in the TORC series) should leave the NHRA (but maybe bring Courtney Force with them since she is sponsored by them) and either team up Olsbergs (as a customer team with limited support) or bring Citroen back to GRC as a partnership with Liam Doran (who has been running the Traxxas logo for as long as I can remember). More brand exposure (READ:RC cars:bowdown::D) and that, ladies and gentleman, should be your next GRC entrant

LaTrax rally cars hint at that direction for Traxxas. Also, Kyosho are doing a lot of RX themed cars, maybe a sign? Could be the next Short Course movement we see with the likes of Associated bringing full time support and licensed models.

man I hope so, as a owner of their 1/10 Rally car, we are in desperate need of new bodies and a racing direction. At least HPI, who are with Ken Block, actually allow the WR8 to be raced. Traxxas needs to do something like that, and that's why a GRC team would be good for them instead of wasting money in drag racing

Just because Olsbergs don't have a spot doesn't mean they won't rent out a car for the right amount of cash either.

Toomas Heikkinen, Foust are both out there too, so that opens up 2 spots....Nelson could be there easily now.
