I've always thought VW has had the best TV adverts.

I wanna know what car ad campaigns you think are particularly good or bad.

Post links and discuss!

One of my favorites, because right when I saw it. It reminded me of the datsun/nissan 270z. Best car ad for me.

Bad: The late 80's and 1990's commercials (for japanese cars) are so confusing to me. I watch them on youtube and they just have singing and the cars driving. Like the 240sx commercial. Singing and driving, well they were drifting but still.

Good: The recent VW Beetle convertible commercial with the guys in the ski masks.

Bad: Most new ford commercials. Don't get me wrong, I love ford, but lately, their commercials are embarrassingly bad.

Especially the maintenance ones... Of course you should maintain a car. Meanwhile Honda has living examples of cars that have made it 100k miles without any maintenance

Volvo has got better reliability. There's a Volvo P1800 that has over 3 million miles.

2 very famous ones for the same car.

Of course, Nissan never bothered to mention in the ads that it was an absolutely terrible car to own, but still.

One could infer that you are speaking from experience?

This.

My truck is the one doing the pulling, I owned a heavily modded version IRL.

Then Chevy tried to one up it and failed miserably. Still pretty amusing though I might add.

That's a lot of foam XD

This is probably the best one. Warning, heavy language but halrious.

80s were bad? Pfft. :sly:
Black gold!

0 to awwwwesome!

I say...it was epic.

Was actually looking into making a thread about car ads, but never bothered to search for an existing one or make one myself. :dunce:

I agree. The 3 I just posted were from the '80s, and all were hilarious, especially the last one. I can't believe that was aired. I think I counted like 4 F-bombs and the "piss on Chevy" line made me tear up I was laughing so hard the first time I saw it.

I like this whole campaign. Pretty neat info and explanations from drivers and engineers.

Also, I like the Miata commercial at the North Pole where they bring the car out for "Spring". I laughed.

I never actually owned one, but my roomate back in the day had a TT and I've worked on it quite often. If you have hands, you can't reach the turbochargers. And if you don't have hands, well, you still can't reach the turbochargers. There's roughly a million miles worth of tubing & electronics to go wrong.

Don't get me wrong, when they worked properly, they were very, very quick. When they don't work properly, they're absolute hell.

Not quite a car advertising campaign, but I always remember seeing this on TV and thinking WOW. Looking back, not as death defying as I first thought..

I've had the opportunity to work on some of my friend's 300zx TTs, and after a couple minutes of wrenching, I decided to take up the ever important job of making sure the chairs didn't move . And yeah, they're the cars that fall into the "They run quick... when they run".

Not entirely sure if there's any other threads for this kind of thing. But since the title is "Good and bad car ad campaigns," I'd like to post some for the REALLY bad... After seeing this ad play twice with only one other commercial in between. I just had to turn the TV off or change the channel as soon as I hear or see it. I absolutely hate how horribly fake Nissan's advertisements have been.

I've heard a lot about this one and luckily I've only seen it once...

Also...if anyone else has seen, some of Ford's advertisements were downright horrible during Christmas with kids talking about how much they wanted a Fusion or Focus.

These days, I'd list Subaru, Toyota, Ford, and Nissan to have the worst commercials today.

I revived one not long ago. It's about general car advertising 👍

The worst car ad campaign here in my opinion was the one for the FG Ford Falcon...because it didn't really exist. Although they are great cars Ford of Australia pretty much put bullet after bullet into their own feet. Minimal advertising, releasing the fuel-efficiency models too late in the cycle (Ecoboost, EcoLPi) and not advertising them either...they are pretty much doomed now.

They had short ads on the telly for the XR50 (50th anniversary of the Falcon) a few years ago but other than that, zip.

One of the more annoying ones has been Honda's ad for the CR-V:

Ford's Focus ads for Australia haven't been terribly interesting either, being in the form of some "buyer testimonials":

The good ones? The VF Commodore mainly, in terms of more serious:

One of my favourites currently is this one for the HiLux:

And this:

Mostly because of the sweet classic Alfa metal they show alongside the Giulietta.

I really thought you were too young to drive, all the stuff I ever saw you post was your parents cars/truck/van.

All the same, the best ads ever came from a brand that I'd never, EVER, buy from...

I love those commercials!

One of the best of 2013-2014

I'm 19, though yes most of the vehicles I've driven on paper were theirs.
