To go with something you said in an earlier post. I am all about updating my skills with these hard to drive cars or hard to drive conditions. You can only get better.

I most likely will join a few practice lobbies also.
I kind if see last weekend and this coming weekend as ‘levelling the playing field’ - last weekend the cars were tough to drive - therefore not many had much experience driving them. And rain? Im sure most of us avoid it, again because of difficulty. Therefore many of us are really driving the combo for the first time. A level playing field.

Last weekend - for which i was dissatisfied (similar to punk) with my race results as they were very different than my practice results. these ‘difficult’ races will only increase my (any of us!?) ability and car control.

Don't want to do them every night - not enough 4 letter words on the dictionary to do every night. but occasionally- and/or biweekly im in for. For me? Purley to increase - hopefully- my control.

theres my sermon for the day. Ill be on tonight at some point I’m sure.

Inside ARL

Inside ARL's fill-in reporter, Phillip McRakk, spoke to Aeden Maddok after his Silver Division victory in the special event at Barcelona on Saturday.

Phillip:
First of all, congratulations on your victory. First in the Silver Division and fifth overall. Your first win of the season, how does that feel?

Aeden:
Thank you Phil. Yeah, it feels good to have finally gotten the top spot on the podium. I've had a fairly strong start to the season by keeping my nose clean while keeping a fast pace. I'm surprised that I was able to take the win over @SydViscus; he was incredibly fast in the race and during the practice sessions.

Phillip:
With that victory you've moved into first place in the Driver's Championship. Every point gained in this race will certainly be important this season as the Driver's and the Team Championships are looking very tight indeed. You had mentioned being surprised to beat @SydViscus, to what do you credit to getting the victory in the Silver Division?

Aeden:
I think it all came down to the difference in pit strategies. I opted for the one-stop while @SydViscus went for the two-stop. I haven't reviewed the lap times, but I think @SydViscus was both faster and more consistent. I know he had at least one off, but I had a couple small offs myself. I think if he'd have opted for the one-stop, you'd be congratulating him on the win instead of me.

Phillip:
Several of your competitors have commented on the F1500; some seem to enjoy it while others loathe it. What is your opinion on the F1500?

Aeden:
It's certainly a unique car, that's for sure. When I got in the car for the first time and ran a few laps, I thought, "Oh no, this race is going to be a disaster!" The car kept trying to kill me! I had more offs and hit the walls I don't know how many times; I'm sure the team was getting sick and tired of putting the car back together. @SydViscus and @Stryker13 both gave me some helpful advice one day while we were all practicing that really helped me understand what I was doing wrong. After that, I really started to understand the car a lot better which helped me not only finish laps without incident, but to also improve my pace. The car becomes quite fun to drive once you convince it to stop trying to kill you... as often anyway...

Phillip:
There has been talk about the creation of a series based on the F1500. What do you think about that and would you be willing to be a part of that series?

Aeden:
I had heard that idea thrown around the paddock a bit. I must say I was surprised there weren't more spins and crashes during the race and the fans certainly seemed to love it, so I certainly think that such a series could be viable.

Phillip:
And would you be willing to join that series?

Aeden:
Yes, I think I would certainly be willing to join the series. However, it's a matter of finding the time and funding (aka: the wife's good graces) to run that car in another series.

Phillip:
I know you run in the ARL Endurance series on Tuesdays...

Aeden:
That's correct Phil, I've been running in the ARL Endurance series on Tuesday nights. I've also been running the SNAIL Spec series on Sunday nights. I've got full rides in those two as well as this series on Saturday nights.

I've been trying to run in a few other series, but the funding just hasn't been available on a reliable basis. I've had the most luck with the ARL Super GT series, but I don't quite have a full ride for that series yet. I'm also working on deals to run in the SNAIL Porsche Cup (Friday nights) where I had an event win the only event I was able to get funding for. I've also been working on getting funding for running in the ARL Beetle Cup (Wednesday nights), the ARL Vintage Series (Monday nights), the SNAIL Gr4 Michelin Pilot Cup (Friday nights), SNAIL Rider Cup (unknown schedule), SNAIL GReaddy Z Challenge (Monday nights), and the IRS Red Bull Global RallyCross Series (Saturday nights), but haven't been able to work out deals yet on those.

Phillip:
Wow, sounds like you've got a pretty full schedule. Does that mean that you wouldn't be able to work out a deal for the possible F1500 series?

Aeden:
No Phil, I think that a deal is possible, but is by no means a guarantee. There's a good chance to find some funding for a Thursday night series, but I don't know that I'd be able to work out a full ride. I might have to work with my sponsor to transfer funding from one series to another if it should fall on another night.

Phillip:
What do you think about the upcoming race at Red Bull Ring? It looks like there will definitely be rain in the forecast.

Aeden:
It's going to be interesting, that's for sure. I think clean racing will be a main point of concern during the driver's meeting. Red Bull Ring is well known for having corners where drivers will dive into some of the sharper corners. Since its looking like there's going to be rain, that will also contribute to making the race interesting.

Phillip:
Are you concerned about the rain?

Aeden:
Not really. I'm used to driving on slippery surfaces, but it will be fascinating to see how the ballast affects the cars and which cars will be able to handle the rain the best.

Phillip:
Thank you for your time, congratulations again on the victory, and good luck in the upcoming race.

Apparently you have a lot more ‘funding’ (wifes good graces) than i do. Two nights a week is about the most ‘funding’ i can get:odd:

Nuthin’ like starting with us on a ‘unique’ night. Redbull in a gr3 in the rain. The prowess (or lack thereof lol) you’ll see this weekend is NOT indicative of a normal race night!

welcome!
Haha thanks! It should be quite fun. It’ll be interesting to see what the pace will look like. I’m just gonna try my best to put in solid laps and take my opportunities as they come, if they come. Lol

INSIDE ARL PRESS RELEASE

Inside ARL reporter Sharon Mahoul spoke with ARL BoD member and Maple Pain Train Driver/Team Principle Syd Viscus after pack-up was completed at Barcelona Sunday afternoon, covering topics from team and individual performances to prospects for the team and the championship as the series nears the half-way point in its breathtaking tenth season.

Sharon: Let’s start, as we usually do, with the race that was this weekend, what are your thoughts on how the race developed for you?

Syd: It was probably the most gut-wrenching P2 of my entire career. Usually the champagne shower would be on for myself and the garage after a finish like that, but we knew we had a win in the cards and I can only blame myself for failing to secure the result we needed.

Sharon: What went wrong for you?

Syd: Went wide at Turn 9 in the final stint, I was pushing 150% to narrow the time deficit to @aedenmaddok and pushed a little too hard. I came back across the track and clipped the inside wall, had suspension and aero damage for the last few laps. An unforced error and one that I want back, but that’s what separates the Gold from the Silver drivers in this league, pace is nothing if you make these kinds of mistakes.

Sharon: The Maple Pain Train engineers are getting flak for the choice to put you on the two-stop strategy, do you think the strategy was part of the problem?

Syd: The engineering answer is always that the design is perfect, it’s the human that’s the problem. This weekend I completely agree with that sentiment. When we left the pits to start our final stint we were 12 seconds back of @aedenmaddok And we closed the gap to 4 seconds within a few laps. If we had caught them we’d have much fresher rubber and the pace to pull away but it was my mistake that compromised that. I’m certain that we had the optimal strategy out there, but fair play to the Full Turtle driver, its always the one who makes less severe mistakes that takes the day and he did that.

Sharon: Lets discuss the teams performance last weekend and so far this season, what have you seen from your outfit so far?

Syd: I think its no secret in the paddock that the team has struggled this season, it’s a combination of the package we have and poor luck on track. Especially this weekend, it ended up being our best team result thus far but we had a driver caught up in an incident on track that hampered our overall result. The week before I was shunted off twice by two separate drivers. It seems like we are a bit cursed this season, but it’s on us to be better and turn in results that reflect our ability. Excuses won’t get us anywhere in this field.

Sharon: If we can shift focus for a minute, I want to ask you, as a series organizer, what your thoughts were on the first wildcard race since Season 6?

Syd: I think it went really well, there was a lot of moaning and groaning when the combination was announced, but I believe that is inevitable. When you are organizing a series there is no way to please everybody, there will always be detractors. I think the drivers put their heads down and came to grips with the combo quite nicely. Even without wildcards there will always be car and track combos that push drivers to their limits, and the wildcard takes that to a new level and pushes the drivers to get good, and that is a positive for everyone, I think.

Sharon: Will this be something you see sticking around in future seasons?

Syd: The other league organizers and I have extensive discussions about rules and regulations between seasons, and this will definitely be a topic of discussion for us. I can’t really say one way or the other, because its not up to me and its really not my place to discuss the behind the scenes workings of the league in a public forum, but I will say we in the BoD care deeply about this league and putting on a great racing series for the drivers every season. We have the blessing from the league founders to continue the great work they carried out for several seasons, and I believe we have implemented many positive changes and helped evolve the series, and I think that’s been reflected in the influx of new drivers coming to our series, as well as the retention of many league veterans. You'll know when everyone else does what Season 11 will have in store.

Sharon: Any thoughts on the championship so far and how you see it playing out?

Syd: The last few seasons have been unbelievably tight, with so many drivers improving at an insane rate. Any given race could be won by any driver, and I see this season being as close as you could possibly get, with any race result being a possible deciding factor at seasons end. Add the double points finale at Spa into the mix and I truly believe this could be the closest season on record, with 8 drivers in Gold and 6 in silver being within 30 points with more than half a season to go and the drop week to account for I think that translates to an incredibly exciting season to watch and compete in.

Sharon: Any final predictions for the potentially wet race at Red Bull Ring this weekend?

Syd: I think most of us are predicting a really complex race, and I hope we can prove our mettle in this one. I would say I predict some offs, but the preparation and skill of this group is continually surprising to me and I feel that will be the case this weekend as well.

All eyes will be on the weather this weekend in Austria, and Inside ARL will have coverage and interviews from the race and the paddock throughout, so stay tuned for more action from the ARL.

Calling free agent drivers!

@Sandite5 and I will be missing from the race this weekend due to family coming into town/holiday.

So MPT will be looking for 2 drivers to sub in for us this weekend.

It sucks to miss this race because I know I have some great pace here.

If interested please contact @SydViscus and let him know you would like to sub. He will get a livery and number created for you for this weekend.

Thanks everybody!

my safety rating is S. my drive style is not to hit or cut off ppl if I can help it clean racing only
I read there was a training session on tuesdays if I read correctly what time is it and how do it get into it

Sounds like you would fit in no problem!

The driver training is Saturdays at 730 EST before the Gr3 series, add me on PSN (SydViscus) for access to the lobby!:cheers:

I am on the slower end, and will almost certainly be slow in this rain race. We all have to start improving from somewhere. I like a league series like this where I can focus on one car for the season (plus two wildcard races) and try to learn to drive that car as much as possible. I am new this season and the league has been very helpful with tips, pointers, and the Saturday training. This is my first time running with TCS mandated off even for starts and it is not so bad once you get the hang of it. The group 3 cars are on the edge of my skill level, but the league got me comfortable in a death machine at last weekend's wildcard so I would not worry about it too much. If you put in a little time and patience you can improve and have fun doing it.

A few posts up SydViscus has the information on joining:

Add the three main hosts on PSN, names are SydViscus, PApunk924 and Moby45.

Choose a car from the car list, make sure you set it to the BoP listed.

Once you've announced your car tagging the three of us you are good to go.

Each week you can confirm, be marked as tentative or if you think you'll make every race you can auto-confirm, which means you wont have to confirm each week, you will be there unless otherwise stated.

Welcome to ARL!!:cheers::cheers:

You'll be fine. We still let @GTR4MROD race and he's awful.

im interested but at the same time i dont think im good enough driver to be competitve

Come join... from your other posts, it's clear you want to drive safe and fast. You have the urge to learn...that's enough.

I "thought" I could drive when I started ARL. Nope...I could just "keep a car on track". While I've talked my fair amount of smack to these guys, in jest, what I've really been doing is listening and watching. My first season I learned to keep the car from getting damage. Second season, I started learning how to be faster over 45 laps instead of just a hot lap. My third season, I started trying to really stay close in traffic (operate a few inches away from another driver without taking/giving damage). I'm still working on all of those, however it is a night and day difference in pace and cleanliness compared to my original entry. Point being....just come drive. Listen. Watch. Have fun!! It will come...very few enter this league and are challenginf up front to start (and most of them were already hardcore racers, just not in ARL.)

Driver training on Saturdays, 7:30 until race start. Plenty of time to get acquainted with the weekly's track/car combo.

Side note: Wanna learn to control a rocket sled? Come join us in SuperGT every other Friday. We need some GT500 drivers. Reach out to @Moby45 if interested in that one.
