What are the differences between Stealth F1 and the regular F1? Looks like the stealth model has a wing. I want to use my regular F1 and compare lap times.

Alright, just got back from the Auto Show and here's what I can tell you.

We're using the McLaren F1 Stealth Model on Racing Hard Tires F/R at Trial Mountain Circuit (not Deep Forest as RacecarBMW has mentioned). You ARE ALLOWED ANY/ALL driving AIDS you would like to use. A DFGT wheel with the custom GT5 racing seat setup is being used.

Also, you can only do two laps per attempt. Meaning you can line up as many times as you want and compete to try and win the grand prize (as mentioned in OP).

Anyways, as it stands for tonight... I have third place with 1:23.926 with no driving aids on. I know its not spectacular by any means... Second was roughly 0.700 seconds faster at 1:23.2xx and first, was around 4 seconds faster at 1:19.xxx. I really want to know how first got 1:19.xxx ... He was consistent at 1:20.xxx, so if you're on here, please do share (if you'd like to share your secrets of course).

I will not disclose anybody's name as I do not have permission, but I can tell you that the first and second place people are related :P

PS. Are you on these forums? It's good to know there are fellow people in the Toronto area that are actually decent at the game. I was the only person that broke top 5 today. All the other top 5 lap times until I came were from yesterday. Anyways, first place - YOU ARE A BEAST hahahaha

--- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---
TOP 5 LAP TIMES

1st - 1:19.865
2nd - 1:23.260
3rd - 1:23.926
4th - 1:24.224
5th - 1:24.706

Sorry everyone I didn't get a chance to play it but it looked like deep forest.

I believe the Stealth is pre-tuned... Correct me if I'm wrong... I believe it has roughly 650hp and weighs 1100kg. I can send you the default tune in a few.

(EDIT) Alright, here is the stock (default) tune for the McLaren F1 Stealth Model:

642hp / 1100kg

Aero (F/R) = 40 / 65

Transmission
1st: 5.419
2nd: 3.542
3rd: 2.541
4th: 1.916
5th: 1.518
6th: 1.264
Final: 2.370
Top Speed: 360km/h

Differential
Initial = 10
Accel = 40
Brake = 20

Suspension
Height (F/R) = 0mm / 0mm
Spring (F/R) = 13.8kgf/mm / 13.8kgf/mm
Ext. (F/R) = 6 / 6
Comp. (F/R) = 6 / 6
Anti-Roll (F/R) = 4 / 4
Camber (F/R) = 0.0 / 0.0
Toe (F/R) = 0.00 / +0.20

Sorry everyone I didn't get a chance to play it but it looked like deep forest.

Wasn't trying to put a hit out on you. Sorry if it seemed that way :)

Okay thanks for this info so far, I'll be updating the main post.

Like I said, I'll be there Wednesday and I'll will definitely post video and pictures... as well as more info!

Yo! Almost forgot, the guys were saying there are no daily prizes for fastest lap for the day. Also, they were saying how first place wins the PS3 plus GT5.. Nothing mentioned about coming back for a race. And for those wondering why there is no live updated times on the website... They are updated live at the show... Haha

Considering the huge, huge gap between 1st and 2nd, I need to ask; are they allowing cutting the chicane or something? If so, disappointing.

I agree they must have cut the chicane and possibly the corner before it to make up 4 seconds, unless they are an extremely talented driver.

If I'm correct you only have to post one of the top 5 fastest laps of the day in order to be invited back to do a head-to-head for the grand prize... so I guess on the bright side (kind of) that amazing time was only for that day... so this is still doable if you're skilled and plan to not "cheat" or cut chicanes.

im thinking about going this year. last time i went was like 2007 or something and they had it at skydome and metro convention center. seems like this year is is smaller. i dont play with a wheel so i dont know how i would place in the time trials.

Hmmm... another reason to go to the autoshow... maybe I'll hop on that thursday. For anyone who has went so far, was it packed to the rafters as expected?

I heard it was dead actually... just don't go on Family Day... I'm expecting it to be rammed.

I'll be doing this of course when I visit this Tuesday. Too bad I don't actually own the car they're using for it. Oh well, I do have the normal McLaren F1. So I guess I will practice with that.

As I mentioned... Whoever did the 1:19.865 was doing 1:20.xxx consistently for A WHILE. The game only records clean laps... And on one of the PS3's (there are two displayed) the 10 recorded lap times there are all 1:20.xxx's... On the other PS3, there were a few lap times lower than the top 5, which means he must have tried with that PS3 as well.

Like I said, you can attempt this as many times as you want... You just have to line up again and again after you do 2 laps.

I was told from the Sony workers there managing the competition told me he was there for a while. He started off around 1:25.xxx and slowly worked his way up going through all lower range 20's until he got a 1:19.865. Of course, that's word of mouth - I DID NOT see this with my own eyes so I cannot confirm. They don't even remember his settings other than that he used automatic(? they weren't too sure of that either).

Oh! And by the way, the game is setup in MPH... You are NOT allowed to change the units... :(

Also, the DFGT setup on the right hand side seems to work better.. I think the dead center on the wheel is better.. The left setup seems loose and seems to have a stronger tug to the right... So if you're actually think you're capable of beating the time - I would suggest using the right one. I attempted to do so about 10-12 times before giving up... Lining up over and over again takes its toll (you spend more time line than playing if you're decent, and a lot of scrubs - hate to say it, fill the line)

PS. They did seem to record dirty laps as well... Which is odd for a time trial competition *thumbs down*

PPS. There was a kid who looked to be younger than 12... He was able to do a lap time of 1:34.xxx on Manual tranny with all aids off except TCS = 1 and ABS = 1 :D Use that as your benchmark :p

Wtf? I thought we were in Canada? What blasphemy...

Thanks for the info again, you are aces!

Hmm looks like the stealth model has more front downforce than the standard, 40 vs 20. I set up my standard F1 today with 675hp, 1130kg, rear wing and racing hards. Best lap I could do was a 1:22.9XX. Car really seems to understeer.

I'll be there one evening this week -- will definitely give 'er a go if the lineup is not huge.

I was there at the autoshow today and confirm everything timeatkuu said, including the story of how the first place dude got the crazy 1:19:965 time. He went on Friday night at 9pm and just drove 20 laps consecutively as there was no one lining up.

Also, I asked the Sony worker there and he said anything goes in the game, incl cutting chicanes...it seems kinda unfair just like with the GT Academy round 2 fiasco recently. Its pretty easy for them to spot who got what times by cheating (lap time in red) so minor things like this made me just give up and go home after posting the 3rd fastest time today.

BTW I just did around 20 laps at home with the same rules and my F1 isn't as twitchy. I am using a Driving Force (the blue one) and the game seems a ton easier than the DFGT. My fastest time at home is 1:20:326 with no cheating so I think the fastest time of 1:19:965 is possible without cheating...but we will never know if the guy did or not. If you are the first place guy, pls show yourself :D

The best I could come up with was a 1:31:xx because of the following:

1. I have NOT played a GT game past GT4.
2. I have never played any game in the series with a wheel.
3. I had to take it easy in some sections to avoid a time invalidation. And even that didn't work out as I slammed into the wall on the final chicane on my first lap, and got WAAAAY loose exiting onto the back tunnel straight on the second lap. I kept that clean the rest of the way and it got me my personal best.

Wow... thanks for the updates everyone. I have a McLaren F1 and I'll be setting it up similar to the stealth model settings posted on page 2, and I'll let you guys know what lap times I can come up with.

how the hell are you guys posting 1:20's???? The best I could do at home is 1:23.5 with a G25 with no aids. Do they allow SRF at the Autoshow or something? Also, how are you guys setting up your Mclaren F1 at home?

Apparently they allow all driving aids at the Autoshow.

Is it just me or do those NASCAR cars in that video have aero wings on them? I don't remember ever seeing wings on them when I play online. Now I have to go see if I can install them. lol. ... Probably won't work.

If you want to do well, you'll have to enable SRF and cut chicanes, as I'll bet 90% of the people trying are doing it.

Hmm, they're different cars than the ones in the game, I wonder why they got cut?

Alright so, practiced for about 15 minutes... set up my McLaren F1 non-stealth model as follows:

642hp
1100kg
Racing Hard Tires
SFR OFF
ALL aids OFF except ABS @ 1
Active steering STRONG
Grip Reduction LOW
Suspension, brake, LSD settings STOCK
Downforce F20 R65
Gear ratios almost the same (couldn't match 3-6)

I managed so far a 1:23.394 CLEAN lap... I will now attempt a lap with SFR ON and dirty... and I will update this post

UPDATE:
Just did it again with SFR ON and a DIRTY lap and managed a 1:19.167 LOL (CLEAN lap was 1:21.308, but still room for improvement as I was still getting used to SFR being ON)

I refused to turn on TCS, SRF, or ASM during the competition... I know the competition allows for it, but I like knowing that I did the lap my way, and not simply for the sake of winning (pretty stupid reasoning - I know). And to correct myself from an earlier post - I had all aids off except ABS = 1 (on Manual tranny) since the pedals don't have good brake resistance or travel sensitivity (like how far the pedal needs to be pressed before full lock comes on). I'm also not at my home home... So I had not played GT5 for about a week and a half until that day.

I'm really fiending to go back and try again :p

When I posted the 1:23.926, I was actually on a roll. I beat my lap time on both laps on the attempt before, and then on the attempt I posted the 1:23.926, I beat my time on both laps. Momentum is really key to time trials. If you guys really want to practice, just remember that you're only allowed to do 2 laps per attempt. The tires will be well warm if you do more than that allowed you to easily be able to post faster laps.

I wonder if the number 1 time there was dirty since it wasn't recorded on either PS3. And also since I was told he was practically the only person there... If he was allowed more than 2 laps per go?

Given that they allow dirty laps and count them, I'm pretty convinced his was dirty as well. I've improved my clean lap close to what he posted, but getting into the 1:19's is near impossible on a clean lap...

EDIT: Nevermind, it could've been a clean lap... I've been practicing in arcade mode doing 2-lap session... on lap 1 I managed a CLEAN lap of 1:19.855... .010 sec better than the #1 time... so it is possible! And keep in mind this is with a car that is technically worse than the stealth model since it has less front downforce...
