The number one guy did not cut, neither did his brother (me). They said that they would allow red times at one point and we both looked at each other perplexed. If the reps will allow it ppl will do it, but as far as i know the top 5 times are clean.

They said cutting was ok because me and my brother only had a couple of chances, there was a huge line up and we raced 3 times each, and they saw we could get within a second of the times. Very hard to get a rhythm. The only thing is all sorts of ppl beat up on those wheels, most of the crowd racing has no clue whatsoever, so whoever tries again you might have even worse equipment. For the record I had a faster red time that would have put me second by 3 tenths, but I asked them not to put it up and looking at the leader board they honored that.

Still a couple of days left, maybe were all gonna meet up sunday night :P.

How much faster were your dirty laps in comparison to your clean laps? Just want to know how skilled the GTA really is... I'm still not at my actually house to be able to try this out at home and see how well I really perform.

And I do hear what some of you are saying with distracting... People watching, or like talking to you while you're trying to do a lap. And about the shoes... I don't normally race with shoes at home either. It took a little time getting used to.. But I do agree that DFGT pedals feel like ****!

I know of a mod that lives near the GTA area and can do a 1:19 lap without being dirty at all.
 
frustrating how I can get in the high 1:17's at home, yet I know for a fact I would struggle to get under 1:20 at the show...

in any case, I might still some of you guys there :)
 
wow, a 1:17.829? I'd have to assume that this guy cut...
 
Did anybody go to the autoshow today? Are the rankings still the same as posted on the website?
 
I went today and tried it out, top time posted was around 1:17 1:18 1:19 for the top 3. it was my first time driving any sort of good wheel, been driving with a hipstreet 50$ wheel 200 degrees or whatever and man was it a different experience. I was only able to run 2 laps and on the 2nd i posted a 1:25. all assists off abs 1. i took off my right shoe just to make it more realistic for me didnt think it was a big issue. i gonna have to buy a driving force gt soon though as the feedback gave the game such a different feel.
 
TAS is a waste of time. Least interactive car show I've ever been too. What good is it to stand 10 feet away from the show cars?

So is the winner on this forum or what? Curious as to how the whole redeeming of the prize process goes...
 
I don't know if the times on the site are final as those were Saturday night times but for the average player 1:17 is blindingly fast especially being under the two lap pressure. I set the 1:18.046 Saturday morning. I had the pace to go 1:17.5 if I could rapid fire laps but that's what it is. Tho that isn't saying much as I'm sure 1:17.829 wasn't Salzmann's best lap so I tip my hat to you because clearly you've beat me fair and square. I was there when the 1:17.812 was set I was standing behind him. He left 1 second on the lap his first sector was crazy 15.3s his second was low 38s and then he totally blew the right hander before the third sector 59.9s and then he blew the left hander at the bottom of the hill but that's what the 2 lap pressure does.. He was on pace for a mid 1:16 lap. I didn't even bother tryin to get the 0.3 I needed because I was officially beat. I had a good time, I didn't play much gt4 and I've never played gt5, I did test a non stealth mclaren f1, but not intensly as I don't own a PS3 and had to test with a controller. I should also say this is my first post and it's to thank all of you for the assist information because i was clueless and this was the only google search thread i could find about this challenge. I quietly read here about the cutting legality and the SRF talk helped get me on pace, tho unfortunately I was unaware of the 'active steering' trick because I tested with a controller. I only found out it helped when the 1:17.812 was put up but by then it was simply too late for me. Im a bit disappointed, but I'm happy to have my name on the site and happy to not have fallen flat on my face.

I didn't do a full-on cut... I slightly cropped the first S and the final chicane -- not a straight passthrough. Took me 3 tries to nail the time posted. It's impossible to get under a 1:18.5xx completely clean. I figured, if they allow it, people will do it, and if you want a decent shot at winning, that is what you're unfortunately going to have to resort to.

I hope they invite us back to race head-to-head instead of just awarding the grand prize out immediately, I really wanna see how I stack up against this Mr. Kuo.
 
Red laps should have had 2 seconds added to them, it would have been a simple fix, and the car should have been set with no driver aides. I asked Mr. Kuo what his fastest lap was he said he has managed a 1:17.3 white lap, no cutting. He has a similar setup at home with the same wheel and same car. It is impossible for me and limited controller track time to compete against someone with those privileges.

Thank you sir... it was pretty tough with the 2-lap constraint... and I set my record time right at 10pm... so I wasn't able to continue improving. Just curious... do you know how many attempts is took Kuo to get that lap time?

His second try. He didn't cut his first try and ran 1:19.502. I know he tried again for a third, by then I left.

I left everything I had, zero running on gt5 that's all I had I missed the top 5 and that's the reality of it haha. I havn't played a racing game in years and I raced karts many years ago, it was nice to have that awful feeling of pressure and nerves run through my body for the first time in many many years.

However my best with limited practice was 1:17.1xx right at the end, the gentleman who won had the exact same setup at home ie. same wheel. He had been there all day I think.

Still happy, me and my bro got a good return on our tickets since we came back to try win it all. We both got 2nd and 3rd good for two free games which is nice.

That will probably be the last time I use any aids at all lol. Ugh after doing that then going online I almost couldnt race my NSX R.
