I've checked for expletives and I'm too muffled to hear it. Except "...slipstream effect is massive!"

Watch out for a guest appearance from Venari near the end.

No Porsche in GT5 ?????

There's GT logo on this hybrid Porsche.

Hi.

Like I metioned some 40 pages earlier I was at the GamesCom as well - and boy, was it loud. One booth tried to be louder than the next to draw attention, but it made it very noisy and exhausting.

So, let's get to the good stuff: rushing through the halls to the GT-stands.
At first I was very very disappointed, in a small corner there were 2 stands with prologue running...then I thought: this can't be it, really, this would be a joke...but it wasn't, it was the PSL stand...
phew...off and raiding the hall in search of the GT-stands.
Found them in the big Sony stand.
Quite a lot of rigs there, but only 1 with 3D - and I must say it wasn't overwhelming. It looked good, but I really disliked, that the edges of the HUD weren't spot on, you saw them both, and that was irritating. But blasting down the Fuchsröhre on the Nordschleife was quite impressive, like a rollercoaster, but I don't think 3D is up to its full potential yet.

Except for 1 rig with 2:00 minutes time-constraints the other rigs weren't limited in this way...which made for quite a wait because most people were driving the Nordschleife, either the 24h or the normal version. But after waiting some 20-30 minutes I finally got in the seat and pushed the exit button as much as possible, till I was in the main-menu.
Like I wrote I didn't get any info on GT5 or anything, so the little icon saying: track-creator made for quite an awesome start.
Next I went for the arcade mode, no aids, hardest AI and the beautiful Miura on hard racing tyres (tyres for rain conditions were selectable, thus chossing those didn't make it rain :() on pro-mode on the 24h-layout of the Ring.
Quite a handful to drive, especially since you could hear nothing which made a mess of my shifting. A remarkable thing was the behaviour of tyres on grass...like you're on ice, don't try to floor the gas and don't even touch the brakes...you'll be spinning of and into the barriers in no time...
But all the spinning and crashing had its good side as well:
The damage was barely visible, just a few scratches, nothing that hasn't been seen before. But I couldn't belive my eyes at first: skidmarks!
And they were beautiful. And spot on. They begin where you lost the car and end where the grass starts.

Apart from that I don't think this was very different from the E³ build concerning the Ring itself.

My next choice was the incredibly detailed Zonda race car on Monza, a track quite familiar from F1CE, FC and SCC. I felt quite at home from the beginning, just the barriers at the chicanes were a bit irritating since I never saw those in any of the other games before.
The Zonda was quite hard to drive, even with soft racing tyres, with the back trying to overtake you immideatly when you overdo the gas. Contrarily to the Miura the Zonda felt quite nervous under braking as well, although this felt more obvious on the counter-straight than at aproching corner 1.
All in all it was awesome though.

Then I went for Blizzards booth to get a bit of plying time on Diablo 3...waiting time was more than 3 hours...fortunately my girlfriend was so kind to get her, my brother an me a beer to shorten the wait, 2 times ^^.

After that and a small Currywurst we went back to the GT-stands.
There we headed for Dunsfold Park and I took the 330 for a spin, literally.
I was quite nervous and since the TGTT is as flat as the boneville flats it was hard to find the apex, despite having seen it like a gazillion times on the show...
But another thing came to attention: a person not so aquainted with both GT and the TGTT got lost a bit and just drove the circle of the upper eight of the tracks a few times, which lead to lapping by the AI drivers. This was made visible by a blue flag on the screen, which I didn't notice on any of the other tracks before, although people got lapped here an there every few minutes.

Well, that's about it.
If anything of interest comes to mind I'll let you guys know.

just an info:

Gt5 legally issued in Italy for Siena's Kart track.

The association of Palio of Siena asked to sequester the game due to the abscence of license for the flags of contrade showed in the game.

I actually really liked that video. I mean the slipstream might be an issue overall but it kinda indicates how playful the game could be with smaller cars. I mean I can imagine it'll be lots of fun with a field of 16 players online.

Did you guys see any builds with 16 cars in track at all?

As you know, there's a bunch of us who really like preservation-of-momentum racing from smaller cars. I picked the 500 for this reason - and because I've not seen anyone else drive one anywhere. I've seen the 500F a couple of times, but almost everything else is racers and hypercars.

Quite a few people drove the P4 and XJ13. Can't blame them, really, since they were brand new cars. Didn't see many Ford Mk4s though. So I figured I'd get something different. :D

Nice. I liked watching the right hand side of the screen and seeing the AI names switching places a lot.

That was another motivation - in GT4 when you had a field of the same cars, they finished in the same order they started. Unless you rammed one of them off the track. It couldn't possibly be less the case here.

The AI are remarkable.

This is one of the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard. Asking to sequester a game because it includes the Flag of Contrade.

Thanks for the write up 👍

Interest point about the blue flag to indicate you're about to be lapped :)

Oo, that's a good thing to try to get on video! It sucks a bit that I couldn't go any earlier, I feel like we're going to be last and have already footage of everything out by then :P I really need to focus on specific things first then :O

I got blue-flagged just before smashing head-on into NASCARs. Which was peculiar :D

I'd like to see what happens if an AI car is blue-flagged - though the demos aren't long enough to get a lap up on the AI.

Try if you can switch off the HUD, would you?

Done, see below.

are you a troll??

Nope, I'm rather a knight in shining armour ;)

One thing that I noticed on the GC was , that the field of fiew is wrong...
it is zoomed it and the outcome is = bader sense of speed

I couldn't agree on this one though they probably had some issues with the TVs - one repeatedly switch itself off and another on had the wrong aspect ratio it seem - part of the bottom (where the HUD stuff is) was cut.

Very sorry to disagree, but the seating position seems very right and more importantly to me (for online racing) you can make very good use of the mirrors.

Madmajor: Thanks for the write-up.

The TGTT, which I tried today in a lovely Fiat 500, is maybe a bit dull to look at (other than the 747 of course), but it is actually a lot of fun recreating the SIARPC bit. They added a few cones, some invisible barriers, but the weather is far too good for it being England.

I fooled around with the AI a bit and the slipstream surely is very noticeable: on the straight my "wingman" was in the slipstream of the proceeding car while is was next to him on the outside. He gained slowly on the leader while passing me.

Again I chose beginner's AI because I wanted to have a good view of the cars. I had the feeling some were actually trying to defend. If that's true, and Famine has commented on this already, that's brilliant news.

Stuff:

Turning off the HUD

In the demo, can't be done. I wasn't able to access any general preferences, and right before the start the quick options only let you adjust type of map, scale of map and driving line.

Shadows

Looked quite good on the dash on Le Mans, Nürburgring GP and Monza, but they seem to be still WIP: very, very rough and blocky edges and some surfaces of the dash (Viper) don't seem to be quite finished. But they look very authentic in the way they wander across the surface if you turn in for example.

Reflections

The reflections on the hood in roof cam (sorry for my previous ignorance) looked rather rudimentary, too. WIP most probably, as Famine or Andreas stated, they got the demo right out of development.

Other than that, I'm more and more convinced of the camera movements, I made a 458 go airborne twice (second to last corner on the Ring non 24h over the curbs). Whopie ;) Couldn't flip it, though.

Saw some pretty good driving from a kid in a Ford WRC, and some rather eager but not very successful attempts of his father. The GTR he drove looked typical AWD with a decent amount of understeer, but seemed to be able to do some rather fast corner speeds. Didn't get the chance to have a go in one myself.

Finally, I tried the best game of all, Space Taxi, which was on display on a vintage C64. I must say the physics were spot on and it brought back tender memories.

Tried to cue for F1 2010, but that would have taken ages. Now I don't know how good this thing drives, they had F1 style Pods with wheels, but it looks amazing. Seriously.

That's it from today, tomorrow I'll be off again to the venue, see you there.

And, if by chance any PD staff is reading this: job well done. Thanks alot for the demo, much appreciated.

I dont talk about a sitting position , I talk about the field of view in general in the bumper cam and chase cam expecially is zoomed in from the game. It has nothing to do with the TV , yes the HUD was a little cut off , but the zoomed in picture was from the game ;)

Things appeared to be closer to you than they really are.

ANYONE @GAMESCOM CAN RECORD audio FROM TV to MP3 by jack?

insert A into TV jack for headphones
insert B into Mp3 line in to RECORD

Famine, if you're still stalking this thread: Did you really get the feeling KY was downplaying the livery editor question, (because he wants something left to surprise us with), or do you think it's likely that it won't be in GT5, another feature on the list of "things to work on"?

Did you check out his body language when he was asked this?

Oh dear, it's the standard/premium debacle all over again!

By phone. Seen blue flag. Skidmarks stay whole race. Some tearing. Game looks great. Physics seem spot on, but spun old 500 on Ns. Love it :)

I forget who but someone around here once called out a guy during presentation (I think Dan G) as lying because he moved his arm.

It was hilarious!

EDIT Found it

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=3591051#post3591051

After he made the comment his arm jerked up, which is the reaction someone has when they are lying

Then the evidence was some youtube video with broad claims

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=120873&page=46#post3591245

I was watching his body language and trying to listen to his precise words - picking out Japanese words I knew.

All I can say is that he was a lot more relaxed during our brief interview than at any time during the presentation - before the presentation he wandered outside, lit a cigarette, paced up and down the courtyard three or four times and headed back in. The cigarette didn't even last a minute.

I got the overall feeling that he's less interested in feature-matching with other games than he is developing his vision. He thinks his vision is 85-90% realised, with his features - Photomode in HD and 3D, Course Maker, parity AI/B-Spec - taking the fore. GT5 is a wholly new piece of software and he's built what's in his vision into it. He recognises that people want other things from other games too - hence the work on the standard cockpits that burned 2 months - but they're secondary to what he wants. Given that he's aware people want a livery editor and it's "on their list", I'll put money on a livery editor being in GT6.

I'm trying to get that but it's late and shops are closed right now ****. So I'm gonna try to find something in the house or either make one myself and test it, lol. We'll see how things go :O
