  • Offline racing
  • Online racing (SPORT mode)
  • Livery creation & customization
  • Scapes
  • Car tuning & customization (one or 2 favorite cars)
  • Car tuning & customization (many different cars)

We all know Gran Turismo’s car history and even in older games we kept seeing the same cars come back from previous titles. But honestly there’s always been this feeling that we want more of the cars we actually see out on the streets and racetracks today.

Less encyclopedia vibes, more cars that are actually relevant right now. Like a few classics are cool—but not 100 different Civic versions. Give us more BMW M models from the G series (like the M2 G87), icons like the E60 M5 that we petrolheads love, more Audi RS models, AMGs, and just more modern race cars overall.
Make it feel like 2026, not the past.
Cheers
Sorry mate.
For me, is that "encyclopedia vibes" that makes me love GT.
So speak by yourself.
If you're only going to play with racing or high-performance cars, it's better to play Forza, The Crew or hardcore sims such as I Racing, Le Mans Ultimate or Assetto Corsa Competizione.
And also, If GT players only wanted racing cars and exotics with V12 engines, this GT2 mod would never exist.

It’s interesting to see how everyone enjoys GT7 and how it caters to so many different playstyles.

As an „offline“ player, for a Spec IV update, I’d like to see the following improvements (which I believe are feasible):

  • Ability to filter AI opponents in Quick Race (e.g., 90s Japanese cars, AWD only, no VGT etc.)
  • Sophy AI available on all tracks (I don’t enjoy non-Sophy races as much)
  • Events for currently unused cars (e.g. classic race cars)
  • Sound updates (many cars from the GT Sport era still need improvement in my opinion)
  • Ability to adjust cockpit view (height, seat position)
These changes alone would significantly improve the experience for me. Everything else could wait for GT8 (e.g. a proper career mode).

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Gran Turismo 7 “Spec 4” Mentioned in Invitation-Only PlayStation Survey

Users in the GTPlanet forums have reported receiving an invitation to a PlayStation survey over the past few days, and some of the questions it contains are raising eyebrows...

We can't do that because we don't make the game. GTPlanet is an independent media site, not involved in the development of Gran Turismo in any way.

These are your problems - the person wants it, so do it! LOL)

I'm a little confused when people write, "I want a new game, not a power pack." I mean, you don't know what you want?! Do you just want to be surprised?

Personally, I miss offline events, namely a full-fledged career, something like this:
  • You can participate in seasons with 10-20 races.
  • A long path to the top cars. Starting in GT7 gives you something like a career, but everything is completed in 1-2 weeks at a relaxed pace. I'm talking about, for example, starting with your Mazda Roadster and needing to complete at least a couple of championships to reach 300 hp. Reaching GR4 should be really difficult, with the necessary reputation level. Here, you can imagine that there are private and factory teams, with varying levels of car customization. And factory teams have higher requirements than private teams. And they won't let you join Ferrari right away; you'll need to work for a couple of teams first, earn some reputation.
  • You have to pay to participate in races.
  • If you're driving your own car, you'll have to pay to repair any damage.
  • Tires aren't free either; they wear out.
  • Analytics with tips (feedback from the engineer). To support your tire and fuel strategy.

I only have 65hours logged in GT7...I wouldn't even consider a GT8 game even anytime soon due to the hours I still need to put in GT7
Well gt7 is 4 years old and a lot of us have played it since launch. Their is not much they can do with it going forward. Bringing new cars and tracks is not enough to keep it fresh. And they really not done much as new game play features go.

Of course there's a lot they can do make GT7 fresh.
If GT7 is fresher than GT Sport, there's heaps they can do without making a GT8.

What can GT8 have that GT7 can't? Let's say next game is on the PS5Pro. What would make it fresh that can't be implemented in GT8?

I understand to grab new players and repeat buyers, slapping GT8 on the front will sell. However, if Spec 4 is on the boardroom table, it could refresh the game to a GT8 standard without a need for GT8. Again, I understand Sony wants to sell consoles and a new digital copy of the game can do that for them.

No doubt PD are not going to follow Rockstar and do what a 13 years span(?), of adding to GT7. I think GT7 could be refreshed for many years.

Better psychic, bigger grid, better ffb, proper career mode, overhaul of sport mode, btw spec 3 was an 8 car update after missing two months of updates and two tracks, tell me how spec 4 will be so refreshing after spec 3 which did nothing beside bait nostalgia and a gt3

Tell kaz when he can release it then

I think I'd like a Spec IV over a new game, for now. I still feel this one has so much more to give. I'd rather a good Spec IV now, than a rushed GT8 to stay on this platform. I genuinely think GT8 should be a PS6 game as we have a fantastic game already to be expanded upon. Let's be real - is anyone complaining about the graphics realistically?

This whole multi platform thing needs to go because it's hindering game development. I know, not everyone can afford a new system. But GT3 didn't come out on PS1. GT4 wasn't on the PS3. You just got on with it.

If anything, it's gameplay tweaks or changes that could be sorted with a big update. Would you rather spend a load of money on a PS6 when it eventually comes out, to be handed a game from the previous generation again, or would you rather have a game that won't feel much different from what we have now because of lack of technological advances?

There's lots of small things they could do to make a worthwhile Spec IV - for example, make the looking around the cars in the garage thing no longer VR exclusive, using analogue sticks like Forza vista. That's an entire mode that I'm sure literally millions of players have never been able to experience.

Allowing us to jump to a scape when we see it in the scape movies in your garage rather than just when on the main menu screen saver. Be able to look at our garage cars on a turn table like in dealerships. Lots of small fixes would make it feel like a new game.

Couple it with some returning original tracks and more cars and I can't see anyone complaining. If there's enough content for it, a new spec in my opinion is the way to go.

That's the question I'm asking. How would GT8 be refreshing over GT7 on the same platform? What would GT8 have that GT7 couldn't have? How refreshing would a new game be if the old game can implement the same things?

GT7 is cross gen meaning it's a PS4 game with a slightly better version

It's a PS5 game. It's been from the beginning. That's how it was marketed for PS5 Only. Then, it was made available to work across both consoles.

Still, if GT8 is going to be on PS5P/PS5Pro, if PS6 is a long way away, what can be done in GT8 can be done in GT7.

It came out day1 on PS4, btw you don't know how game development works and that's okay

GT7 was developed as a PS5 exclusive from the start. PS4 wasn't even considered at PD.

The decision to develop a PS4 version came in the COVID shock, with SIE essentially locked into releasing the PS5 but with poor supply due to the semiconductor crisis (partly, but not exclusively, caused by COVID), and much poorer initial projected sales resulting in a PlayStation Studios' C-suite panic. No part of this is even close to secret.

BTW you don't know how the development of GT7 worked, and that would be okay if you weren't making stuff up and talking down at people on the basis of your made-up stuff. But y'are.

Dream features for GT7 Spec IV:

  • All cars available as rental cars in Quick Race, Time Trial, Drift Trial, Custom Race and Split-Screen Race. Kind of like GT4/GT4 Spec II's Arcade mode and Forza's Free Play mode where all cars are available as rentals, where you can just select a stock car, its color/livery, do basic set-up tuning and just race. But you cannot earn credits or Daily Workout progress driving them, and they are forbidden to use in the career mode events.
  • Custom championships. We already have Assetto Corsa-style parameters for creating custom races (which also includes custom grids), why not championships?
  • The ability to sell stockpiled tuning parts and engine swaps. At least that should be an option if players don't intend to use them rather than discarding them entirely.

I'm guilty of wrongly assuming that GT7 was conceived as a cross-platform game and am genuinely curious now that you've enlightened me to this fact. Is it safe to assume that some of what was originally planned for the game when it was PS5 exclusive had to be scrapped? I only ask because I would assume PD would have created a game that would make use of the extra power afforded by a newer console.

At this point PD should just realize that the PS5 is going to hang around at least 1-2 years (and supported for many years after) before the PS6 comes out and their Sony bosses won't let the opportunity of selling to a base of 80.3 million shipped units slip. So GT8 will be cross-platform too.

What was supposed to be in the game?
I have no idea. But we do know the difference in hardware specifications between the two platforms and from that, we can speculate what could have been scaled back to make the gameplay/features consistent.

If the game was PS5 only, I'd be willing to be that we'd have a more comprehensive tire deformation model. Allowing for improved FFB and tire wear that isn't binary. Maybe we'd have the ability to flat spot tires for example and in turn, have that show up via FFB.

I don't want to derail this thread much further but that was great information to learn and gives me more perspective on what I can expect from GT7 moving forward.

Now that I definitely couldn't answer - and probably not even if I did know the answers, which I don't.
I totally get it and appreciate the bit that you shared.

Q1: What areas of Gran Turismo 7 would you say you enjoy the most:
  • Collecting cars
  • Offline racing
Q2: Approximately, how many cars have you collected in Gran Turismo 7?
  • 200+
Q3: Approximately, how many hours have you spent playing Gran Turismo 7?
  • 400+
Q4: Did you play the Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack DLC?
  • Yes
Q5: If there was another Power Pack-style DLC for Gran Turismo 7…
  • What would you like to see in it? : More variety, more classic Gran Turismo endurance races, and the option to choose your own cars and better replayability to earn money
  • What would you not like to see in it? Mediocre payment and those strange BoP selections.
Q6: If there ever was a Spec 4 update for Gran Turismo 7…
  • What would you like to see in it?: adding the Nissan R390 GT1, a more responsive car selection, two new tracks one real and one fictional (a new City track would be nice) and, of course, a better GT Mode (possibly with a rebuilt progression) would really improve the game, Sophy 3.0 for all tracks and cars in custom races, La Sarthe update version.
  • What would you not like to see in it? Filler content, SUVs, GTV's and EV's.

As a GaaS product, there really is no need for GT8 until PS6 comes along. Just add new features and content to this great base. Some new rims certainly wouldn't go amiss.
This .
GT8 it's clearly planned as a PS6 launch title. There's no official confirmation, but it's obvious at this point. With that in mind, a Spec 4 update, if it manages to exist, may include content planned for GT8, perhsps a little downgraded to work on PS5.
I'd say that the more PS6 is delayed, we'll have higher of a Spec 4 update.

Got my survey finished. The one main thing I want from Spec IV is more legacy tracks (Midfield, Apricot Hill, Autumn Ring)

Given that the main difference between the two versions is, besides the paid DLC, seemingly solely the quality of the trackside furniture I don't imagine any cut content would be hugely exciting or relate to gameplay.

Tbh this is about the only forum I visit with anything positive to say about the PS5. From what I've read elsewhere Sony is very lucky to have had Covid etc to blame for poor initial, and continuing sales, which isn't so much about the PS5 itself as Sony management.

It's not something we can know, really. SIE has (or rather had) a policy of feature parity between PS4 and PS5 version of the same game, such that the only differences would be aesthetic rather than functional.

To paraphrase Captain Barbossa, it was more a guideline than an actual rule, so there have been some exceptions (although I don't recall any off the top of my head right now; Considerably later edit: I think one of the FIFAs was a notable one, but I don't remember which as they may as well all be the same game) but PD I think stated that it would be the case with GT7. Obviously with Sophy and now the Power Pack, that hasn't remained totally true, but it was the path at launch.

As such we can't know what features would/could have been in the title if it weren't for the decision to stick to feature parity between the two consoles. It's probably best we don't too.

Thats just it pd wont add much in spec 4. Other than new cars and tracks, Things like sophy integreted career mode, new customize options, new tuning options, sound updates, will most likely require a new game, and will be a lot more refreshing than another spec update.

Survey option doesn't include Online racing outside of sport mode lol do these people know their own game

Just give the ps5 users bigger lobby sizes (at LEAST 24 players if not 32) to tide us over to the next game I'm sick of the online experience being hobbled by catering to people playing on 13 year old (!!!) consoles
