Another TOCA Race Driver 2 inspired custom grid. This time using the Testarossa's for one based on the Koenig Speedfest series (now called the Testarossa Speedfest)

I may have to re-think my N-One Cup races. I thought I'd have fun trying it out on Sophy for the first time. I chose Bathurst. Big mistake with my underpowered cars. I fell from 10th to last with Sophy finding her grip and straightline speed even though ALL cars are equal. Darn you Sophy! :P

Have you checked Sophy's top straightline speed in replays and does it match yours?

I hope it arrives in time for the custom races... and I wonder what will change.

Probably their ability to drive in the rain—real rain, not like the rain in the Power Pack, which was very grippy.

Maybe no more rubber banding?
Defending their position?
Making dive bombs? (not like in Power pack day one PLEASE)
Making mistakes?
Will each AI behave differently?
Or will it be possible to have AI at the same level as in the beta version if we want to?

It's true that it was incredibly difficult, but at least it forced us to drive within our limits, and it was so thrilling.

Man december is so far... But the main thing is that the lovely Sophy will always be in our hearts...

Just posted this on another thread, but I think here might be more pertinent.

I really hope the upcoming improvements to Sophy are a complete rework of the current 3.0 implementation.

The biggest things for me are:

A much more subtle spread in AI lap times, and that reflecting in race (i.e. you are racing the whole grid, not just passing the first 10 cars in the first lap)
Higher difficulty coming from the AI actually driving better, rather than simply making the player's car worse.

If the 10-pepper difficulty means your car is massively detuned, I'm not sure that really qualifies as an improvement to Sophy. I'd much rather see the AI become genuinely faster, smarter, and more competitive.

I honestly wish the Power Pack had included an improved version of Sophy 2.1 rather than what we got. I was really looking forward to the "new evolution of Sophy," but the experience ended up feeling more like "detune the player's car as much as possible and try to catch P1."

We'll have to wait and see what the next version brings. Hopefully they take Sophy in the right direction.

I agree.

Actually, I guess for a Sophy 3.0, you were expecting the Sophy we had during the beta, but customizable?

That’s what I would have wanted.

That is, a Sophy that defends, that’s fast not because of the boost but because she pushes the track’s limits (well, maybe a little too much...) and that never gives up!

Actually, with the Power Pack, I got the impression that there was no more rubber banding, ("short" races) but that her behavior was closer to Reggie’s than to the 2.1’s (aside from those absolutely despicable dive bombs, which they nerfed).
In the end, I realized that calling it “Sophy 3.0” was more of a marketing ploy than a reality.

The year is 3024 and Reggie still doesn't go full throttle (I hope this is changed in the next update, also hope that updated Sophy makes it into custom races!)

The removal of track barriers for SOPHY was one of the best improvements. They could get away with Masking SOPHY 2.1 as Beginner, SOPHY 3.0 as Intermediate and a SOPHY 5.1 for Professional.
What do you mean by track barriers?

Here's the thing though: sophy 3 is not harder than 2.1, in fact it's easier.

I just want more slots opened up instead of 50.

If I have any more custom race ideas, Im hard restricted to 2 since Im at 48

Sure Sophy AI races have their own 50 slots. Technically making 100 but Sophy isnt available on all tracks, can't do grid starts, and I just hate Sophy AI more than regular AI in general and would rather not.

(I wish we could have the Chilli Pepper AI as an option)

It’s not about harder. Track barriers were limiting SOPHY from using more of the track. It was programmed to strictly stay within track limits. 2.1 wasn’t using the curbs as much as Terminator SOPHY from the debut at the World Tour. SOPHY is now using more of the curbs and circuit. It’s allowing SOPHY to attack much better.

SOPHY 3.0 has the benefit of qualifying and driving in changing weather. So add 3.0 with 2.1 and it makes for much more immersive experience.

The qualifying doesn't do anything as there is always a 10s difference between p1 and last.
And yes, they may use more track, but they always use defensive lines.

I don't get it. I tried one race right now: gr3, and i chose a stock Nissan gt500 which is pretty weak.

I purposefully started p2. If I fight for p1, the rest of of the pack eats dust and gets seconds behind. If I let p1 go, I do have a nice battle with 2 or 3 guys behind, and p1 pulls away as if it was on rails.

Why can't we have a nice race where the pack stays somewhat together?

It's still about having qualifying as an option in Custom Races. The more options the better for us all. That's why I'm saying the combination of both SOPHY instead of it remaining separate.

I mean, I have nice races where the pack stays together. We'll see if PD have improved SOPHY in a few months.
