I haven't tried Sophy without boost set to weak yet. Does she slow down like regular AI at about 40% of the way through the race?
Ya, Sophy needs boost. Without it, it's boring. Extra PP didn't make it any better.

I prefer the shorter races, 10 laps max. Also, the races need to be balanced. Every car has to be within a very narrow PP range, I try to hit the accepted targeted (550, 600, 650, 700) or a cup race with all cars at the same PP. Also, I find the RH races are better than the street tire races, regardless of the car.

That said, with a handful of slightly boosted cars in the mix, I think your longer races might work out really well.

Edit: Here's as the last lap of my Sophy Rivals at 600pp. I did this race at Tokyo before this one, but that Subaru needed some help, so I redid the balance on it and tried again at good old Catalunya. Again, just 10pp extra for those "rivals" (pink with Sophy decals). Photo finish. (Note: I've mentioned before, but it's worth repeating, I have penalties turned on to make it more like Sport Mode. Contact penalties as well)

I guess I missed the memo somewhere but I wasn't aware that Sophy can't "drive" the Carry? I tried to set-up my races today but it kept on defaulting to Miatas on the car list when I was trying to replace cars. If so then regular AI it is. :grumpy:

Yeah, we've got to wait for SOPHY to train on the new cars. Since Kaz says we get cars as soon as they're ready, probably leaves no time for the SONY AI crew to assign the cars to the SONY agent.

I had a banger of a 5 lap race at Trial Mountain against Sophy that was too good to keep to myself. Crowded jostling throughout the five laps, and a nail biter finish at the line to close it out!

(Bad language in video)

The cars are all in my favourite performance bracket, and are (almost) completely stock. The last few pages of this thread have shown players immaculately setting up multiple copies of the same car to have close, competitive racing against Sophy, but for me, I really like how Gran Turismo can offer such a wide variety of cars, and simply lining up cars of close performance on the grid can allow for a quick and fun race!

Sophy has really revitalised the game for me, so much so that I'd even go as far as to say that the PS4 version of GT7 isn't even the same game anymore. I hope Sony and PD don't take this the wrong way, but Sophy racing I find is so much better than online racing against other players in some aspects. Primarily, there isn't lag to exaggerate the effects of small collisions, meaning that closer racing is possible. And as someone with some anxiety issues, I really, really like having a low–pressure environment to hone my driving skills against AI opponents instead of real people.

That said, I do still have some small issues with Sophy in addition to my comments earlier in this thread. Sophy always seems to misjudge where the front end of their opponents' cars are, and when returning to their ideal racing line in front of another car, they have a tendency to swipe the front bumper of the chasing car with the leading car's rear bumper. This can be seen happening to me and my RX-8 at the hands of the Sierra Cosworth at 4:26 in the above video, and Sophy does this against other Sophy–controlled cars as well. It's a small issue, albeit a weird one I'd like to see fixed if possible.

Stock car Sophy races are good chilled fun, and with random opponents often impossible to win (which I prefer, once you get in front of Sophy on Weak it starts boosting unrealistically).

Did a 30 minute race recently with a stock 90's Porsche at Road Atlanta, started in the evening and went into the night. Blue lights started flashing after 20 minutes and out of the dark comes a GT40 to lap me... and then another a minute or two later... but I was enjoying it!

Usually drive cockpit cam with no hud or race info, bit of fuel and tyre wear, with just the Ezio app engineer giving me audio info. Over 30 mins the cars get split into small groups, but you have a chance to gradually up your pace and leave one group for the next.

Hoping for Watkins Glen support next!

I am going to stick with this "rivals" concept. As well know, the PP isn't perfect (but it's REALLY good in GT7) so some cars need a little more boost, and some need a little less, but it's a very small window (7-11PP so far). What I love most about it is that it feels like you're playing co-op. It feels like you and some buddies are racing against a field of Sophy drivers.

So, to recap, build your custom race to a PP target, then add (I like to use three) rivals with around 9-10 PP extra, again depending on the car. It doesn't matter where you decide to start, and so far, it doesn't matter how long the race is. It's always a good race that is VERY reminiscent of the old GT5/GT6 open lobby days. I ABSOLUTELY recommend this for any "cup" race.

I'll try to get a longer race in (10 laps+) and share the finish.

Is this an appropriate place to post tunes for Sophy cars?

I ask because of my 590 cup settings. On the one hand, I'd like to share them. On the other hand, I don't want to share them in a place they shouldn't be.

Any interest?

I did it. Let's face it, these are custom race tunes after all. More for Sophy than for people.

UPDATE: Head to head comparison of boost weak vs no boost, both with my rivals, 10 laps. Without boost, the race was over after three laps so I quit. No fun whatsoever.

Boost weak however, and this rivals idea shines through. Here is the last lap of 10. The rival are in the Audis (with Sophy livery). A bit of context, I was leading at lap 7, then Sophy dove on me at T1 at the beginning of lap 8, I dropped to 4th place, and got myself back to 2nd (and I picked up a track limits penalty)

What I see about SOPHY is racing etiquette. SOPHY places the car at optimum lines for shortest distance: hugging inside on pit straights, obvious out-in-out for corners. Thing is, SOPHY chooses to avoid contact, which, allows me to either set up a pass or gap SOPHY in defense. SOPHY “expects” the same of the User.

I’ll use the same etiquette when IM too hot in a corner and I know I don’t have quite the run to overtake. SOPHY reads the line I take and will place the nose of the car at optimum and again, “expect” I will use etiquette and stay on my current trajectory allowing SOPHY to complete the move. When I do change my trajectory slightly, contact occurs and at times I may feel unjustly done by, I can say I’ve caused that by not yielding in that instance.

Trust, I’ve had that happen plenty with the divebombing, but just like with your clip, I realised that’s SOPHY seeing the door open. Situations like that when I know SOPHY is on the move, I’m hugging that inside and SOPHY recalculates the move. Few times it’s just SOPHY drinking too much of the liquid metal from computer chip and being silly. ;):sly:

I'm going to have to disagree on that one. Examples, Spa T1, Spa bus stop, Catalunya "La Caixa", and the list goes on and on. Sophy is NO WHERE NEAR hitting the apex or the optimal line in those corners if it's looking to pass. It will full blown dive bomb you, it's not even a block pass. It's aiming for your door and to be able to make the turn at the last possible moment. It does this to the player, and to each other.

I don't know how you haven't experienced this. Maybe you have the boost off or something.

Speaking of boost, I think boost weak is actually broken, and I hope they NEVER fix it. Instead, I hope they change boost strong to match.

Why do I say this? Well, I've been testing back and forth between the two settings (no boost/boost weak), and my fast laps don't seem to change. My slow laps do, which is expected given the extra traffic. Sophy's times, well that's a different story. As we have all seen by now, Sophy is at the player's pace from the get go. Often setting fast laps out of the gate.

However, as can be easily noted, boost weak reduces the pay out because what it SHOULD be doing is boosting YOU. But it doesn't boost the player, if anything it slows the player and boosts the competition. Ergo, I think somewhere in the code, they have the setting backwards, Specifically for Sophy boost weak. Now, imagine if boost strong did the same thing? If it gave Sophy even MORE boost while you remained the same. That could be glorious.

Hopefully they NEVER EVER fix this. It would be the worst "fix" they could make.

Thing is, Sophy can't make the distinction between a gap you should and should not enter . It's like a dog seeing a squirrel, it can't help itself.

A Sophy that is a tad less aggressive when the gap is there would be most welcomed. Hopefully this gets refined as time goes on and she keeps learning. Otherwise, I just need her to pick up the pace slightly and not be hampered by boost settings.

Seriously. It's like that. Just a sniff to get the nose in. Any deviation made by the User and SOPHY is on it!

From the initial agent at the World Tour choosing optimal not conventional lines, the World Tour participants and the world were seeing how SOPHY took advantage of parameters. Crazy when SOPHY was taking to the grass for optimal times.

I can deal with the divebombing at times. Kind of a human action like dive bombers and humans going for gaps that weren't there, in Sport Mode.

Seems like Sophy takes Senna's "if you don't go for a gap that exists" quote to a tee :sly:

We really need Sophy to learn the new cars,STAT. I ran my Carry race on the 'Ring with boost weak. I started in 10th and it was over even before we entered Nordschleife. Boring.

It's coming. The process seems to be making the car first, then getting Sophy support. Although, some current cars do not have Sophy support on all tracks.

IMHO, the normal custom races are useless. Even Sophy without boost is useless. It's boring.
