Setting Boost to 'Weak' is the best thing you can do. But depending on your skill set, even doing that isn't enough to make them competitive. Then you end up having to put your own car at a disadvantage to make the racing closer, and that's a whole different rabbit hole...
Which is a good thing when you realise AI will always have an advantage over the player when it comes to fuel consumption. Probably an inevitable consequence coming from vehicles used by AI have a different physics than those of the players.

I'm still waiting for the day I can fire up a custom race, say Gr.4/GT4 cars, and have a realistic race without putting myself at a disadvantage. I ran a 30 lap Super GT race last night at Suzuka running in the GT300 class with BOP set to ON. Won by a large margin and not a single AI car passed another AI car. They finished in the same order they started.

Won’t bore y’all with a video, but good stuff!

I just don't see Sophy adjusting pace in my races because the top spots are never in question. I never get to p1, not even during pit stops, and the AI lap times are pretty consistent throughout the race. This is with boost on weak.
This is why I simply add a slightly faster car. I find the racing more interesting that the Pit Stops (for one) and if the lead cars are slightly faster, they race me closer, and IF I have pit stops, there's never a large enough gap to cause the over boost to kick in.

Also, I have been analyzing the AI more, trying to figure out what challenges PD is trying to work around and what tools we have to work with.

Something both AI types have to deal with the accordion effect. Sophy is better than Reggie because Sophy doesn't avoid contact in the same way, so this effect is reduced. Reggie slows down to avoid any issues, which then causes this effect to be exaggerated, even slowing down to avoid loss of control, whereas Sophy is MUCH better at having the tail step out, so it doesn't randomly slow in the corners.

I think this is why the bulk of the Reggie single player is rolling starts with huge gaps. This is also why I think we are finding that rabbits help Sophy. By having the lead cars spread the field, the accordion effect is reduced, and as mentioned, Sophy deals with the causes in a better way.

I can’t recall SOPHY running this fast and smooth through the COD, ever. Not to mention the composure of SOPHY from attacking, defending and being overtaken.

This my also be the best I’ve ever seen SOPHY run the N24 in any of my set ups. I was being overly cautious of SOPHY behaviour and SOPHY made me pay for it.

All cars are slammed on their guts. Springs at maximum, ARBs at 10/10, -5/-3 camber front/rear. Only the 180SX and Celica have their standard rear aero at minimum 50 & 40, respectively. 4.7 final drive with 255 km/h in top gear.

Running on all the European GT SOPHY circuits and the agent is so smooth at every one of them.

Just a bit of a teaser for what I was up to this weekend. Spent it all and finally got around to cooking up a new custom race class for Group A touring cars. It’s using a mix of @Gingerale ’s tunes and some of my own ones to add some more brands.

I’ll hopefully have time to post a Sophy replay I took tomorrow, and show off the builds and liveries that I made.

Nice work! It was mostly Praiano's tunes, but im curious what you think about the drivability. Which car did you drove?

And love the windshields!

I see. The tunes are generally pretty great and seem decently balanced with Sophy! I drove the BMW to start and I really enjoyed it! But I’ll get into more detail with each tune in a follow-up post.

Also the banner is Touring A taken from Cusco’s parts catalogue lol. So I’ve made the series Cusco Touring A, both to reference Group A and a bit of product placement for the title sponsor of the series.

Here’s the gameplay of my Sophy test race. There’s a decent amount of racing happening between me and the other Sophy AI! I’m pretty happy with the results so far.

…also that Pilot FC Mazda put in some work this race. Might need to think about a nerf to be honest.

I want to talk about each car a bit more soon. I made each livery from scratch so I’m pretty excited for that. I’ll need to use my computer to write that and I still need to share all the styles lol. So I’ll get to that tomorrow… or the next time someone posts so I don’t double post.

I REALLY hope this get Sophy support. I love the track. I've done a few Reggie races there and it's not terrible.
That's why I been stuck doing Reggie races that long since the update. I had to convince myself I was seeing what I was seeing, it wasn't bad racing by the AI.

Well....I wouldn't go that far. It does expose some Reggie trait issues, especially at T2 and t5. Reggie seems to hit the brakes at any hint of the car understeer or oversteering, or if it might hit another car, so it suddenly losing speed at the worst times.

If there's enough gap, it's not horrible. Still frustrating when you get brake checked for no apparent reason. This where Sophy's tolerance for a loose car shines so brightly.

Oh I'm not saying great, but definitely competent enough at the new circuits I've been doing.
Running the GP-Tuned(with a couple R5s) and D-Tuned One Make, the lead trio are still hard to catch in my sprint races of 3-7 laps.

Actually, you know, the location that is consistently a challenge is Tokyo. Whether Reggie, or Sophy, the Tokyo tracks are always fast when the boost is on. I don't know what they did there, or why they are all consistently better, but racing at Tokyo is like playing a different game.

And the bonus there is that Reggie supports all the tracks and cars.

I need to post the full race replay from Catalunya, will do that tomorrow.

On a side note, when I finish this GT4 series I want to do a series of live streams. Starting with a 2.4 hour race at Sarthe with 8x GT3 cars and 12x GT4 cars. All cars will be manually set to standard GT7 BOP, except I'll be running the NSX Gr.4 set to BOP + my body weight in ballast. Tires 2x, Fuel 1x.

Been doing some testing in the car to get used to it. Few tweaks here and there and it's good enough. The kicker here is that I want to do the whole race in cockpit view with no HUD. Will rely on the gauges in the car since it gives me fuel amount, lap count, etc.

Need some help on a few of the gauges. Anyone know what top left, top right and bottom right are?

Top:
1) ???
2) Oil Pressure (in bar)
3) Gear
4) Lap #
5) ???
Bottom:
1) Engine RPM
2) Speed (km/h)
3) Previous lap time
4) Fastest lap time
5) Fuel (liters)
6) ???

Shoot. Been a while since I drove the NSX.

From memory, the bottom right #6 is Grid Position.

I think Top Left #1 is Oil Temp? Top right #5 is Water Temp. Those two numbers are Water temp and oil temp on lots of cars instruments. The Mazda RX-V GT3 labels those numbers as Oil Temp 110 degrees C, Water Temp 85 degrees C.

I think you nailed it. Someone suggested water temp top left but does make sense that the oil temp is usually higher than the water. And grid position makes sense. I was in time trial mode when I took that screenshot. I'll do a short race tomorrow and recheck.

Botton 6 maybe TC? Not the one in the hud, which you have every time you want, but the actual car one, which, as far as I understand, is not operable
