Maybe half of players aren’t satisfied with the physics changes, but it’s worked perfectly for what I do with these cars. I’m happy.

To be fair, half the people have no idea what they are talking about and they're just upset that it changed. For us in the custom races, these changes are a net gain.

Also, I tried the differential changes to fix the Suzuki Carry, if did nothing. Now I think it's something to do with the addition of slip angle.
 
Just did a 32 lap race against my own gr3 cars, usually don't get near the front on intermediate level. From my "know the basics knowledge" I find the new physics quite good. The championship damage is painfull. Fortunately it was around the pit window for new tyres so wasn't to damaging to my race

Fyi, I'm pretty sure changing the Ai from intermediate to professional does absolutely nothing for custom grids, other than altering the payout.

If you have a "random" grid, changing from intermediate to professional will alter the car selection, but if you have a custom grid, it does nothing.


BTW, the new physics does mess with Sophy. I did a race on Monza and even the F3500 had to slow abnormally at the chicane. Not sure what it's trying to avoid, but it seems that it needs a general update.
 
I need to put this in the undocumented changes thread. Reggie has been vastly improved. It's no longer a cake walk on the straights. the biggest drawback compared to Sophy is the fight from people behind you. They kind of drop off to no where.

Now, this is back to being a toss up whether to do Sophy racing or Reggie racing. Sophy is a bit more challenging in some case, but Reggie has all the tracks and weather.



All the cars are between (the new) 725-735pp. My Renault is 727. The 296 and AMG are stock.

Boost weak, strong slipstream, championship damage. BTW, this is lap 4 and 5 of a 5 lap race. I started mid pack, finished 6th.

Yeah, even at Fuji Reggie was pulling me in the same tuned Chasers as mine and the Civic and the M3. I have slipstream set to real and I still couldn't just blast by like pre-1.71.

With the slipstream set to strong, they pull each other together and makes them pass each other more. :)

Watching my replays they were still passing one another and setting up with switchbacks. I'll try with strong and see how it goes down the straights. Using the SpeedVision Touring cars now with less horsepower(200-230 BHP) at Road Atlanta.

I was reading in the undocumented changes thread that driving without ABS is possible now (you don't lock up right away). This might make many of these races far more interesting.
 
You are correct, just tried the same race upped the laps, difficulty and lowered tyre wear to x4. Wasn't anymore difficult. All cars finished in same positions though, which makes me ask how you guys do your custom championships?.
 
Did the race 2/Round 2 for this weekend’s JTCC 12 lap event at Fuji. Moved up to P1 on lap 5. Me and P2 started to edge away slightly. Checked the replay and the top half of the field broke away from the bottom half. All cars held station until I did my fastest lap of 1:49.9 on Lap 9. Then, the programming kicked in for passing in the top 7 positions.

P2 to P5 dropped the time to 1:47 to maintain the .7s to 1.8s gap. P7 started picking off cars over the next 4 laps and finished right behind me.

Even with slipstream strong I couldn’t pass on the straight. I’d get a very slow run just past the start/finish line, move out of the slipstream to overtake and nope. Reggie would start edging ahead.

Depends on Sophy or Reggie.

Here is what I do. Boost weak, Strong slipstream, and damage (you pick what you prefer). Also, for the most part, do not over balance the cars. Choose a range of about 10PP. Tune cars up as needed, or down as needed. Generally speaking Reggie does more passing than Sophy, especially in the backfield, although I do not know if that is still the case with all the changes. Sophy still passes very little, but I haven't done enough Reggie races.

IMHO, this update brings the two AI closer together. With Reggie having the standing starts, the weather, and all the tracks...well, You might be able to do a championship where you can flip back and forth between the two AI models and expect similar end of race results.
 
I'm also going to switch to Reggie for all my championships. Having all cars, all tracks and random weather with possible rain on most tracks is just so much more fun. Plus since I'm not that fast I also find the 3 different levels are actually all different. With sophy there seems to be less difference between beginner and pro.

Especially now we have another road car touring car with the Chaser which is one amazing car I cannot bring myself to Sophy anymore.

With the exception of those cars that are not Sophy compatible, you could do a blend of the two. That's possible for most race setups now. This way, you get the best of both worlds. Run Sophy where available, run Reggie on the rest. This is what I am going to do for some select championships. It only takes a few ore minutes of set up.
 
Did another race, this time at CGV(this and Yas are added to my favourite circuits). Later stage of the 10 lap race, slipstream was set to Real, from P3 downwards starts closing the gap. Whole field nose to tail at the line.

Going to stake the Super Touring field to 4 laps of the N24 and see what happens.
 
Dare I say, this has been the best update for the custom race crowd. Also, with this update, I truly see that the custom race is becoming more of the entire point of the game...it's become the GT Sport of single player. If they would grab one of the championship managers and implement it in game, it would be a huge win.

Couple cars spun out on the first lap and that divided the field.

The grid is more “grown up” with the Toyotas though. Real touring cars between the Group A and “TC”R in the game.

WHAT???!! No L. Hamilton in the roster? Can you even honestly say you were racing? 🤣 🤣

I'm telling ya, put an L. Hamilton in there or even an S. Senna. Remember, GT Sport had a Lewis Hamilton expansion, and the GT6 had Senna events. There may be a lingering feature in there, because I could swear Hamilton does just little bit better than the others.

EDIT UPDATE: I just uploaded a new version of my custom race manager (https://github.com/voodoovaj/spiritofracing). I've removed all necessity for AI, so no need to spend money on an API key anymore. I've improved qualifying and championship tracking.

Now, you can track which teams you have won with in your championships. Also, when you start a new season, you will get "offers", which are team suggestions. That prioritizes the teams that you have not won with, so pushes you to fill out a season by winning with every team/car you have for that race. People wanted a "career" well, this is how I would do it in the context of Gran Tursimo.

They could add this system as a custom championship builder, and track victories the same way. Career mode would be unique to you.

random field spreads out the field as the race goes along like last place during the dirt endurance race earlier this week last place was passed by multiple cars that is on the lead lap it was that slow.
 
From the couple Reggie races I could do since the update I'm pretty sure that Reggie is braking much later now. Do you guys agree? Sophy can't handle some of my Touring car SetUp. For example the Integra driven by Sophy is like a car in driftshow in each corner but still fast. The M3 97 is crawling through Spa and needs double the laptime than all the other cars. I need a new tune for those

Remember, SOPHY only uses ABS. Reggie uses all aids so it’ll be able to stabilise the car better. I had my Civics and Integras losing the rear at Road Atlanta T1 due to me applying the old tune to the new physics. I adjusted from:

Old FF Tune
  • Toe F/R 0.15/0.0
  • Camber F/R -5/-4

New FF Tune
  • Toe F/R PD default
  • Camber F/R -3.5/-4.0

My springs and dampers are unaffected. Some cars are at maximum spring stiffness. The dampers are maximum soft on compression and maximum stiffness on expansion.

Anti-roll Bars are set pretty high front & rear in the 7-9 range.

Yes, it's definitely doing a better job under braking, as well as the straights. Reggie used to be easy pickings at the Watkins Glen bus stop. Now, it's beaten me into the corner without wiping out, and it still wipes out from time to time. It's a good balance of fast, but with realistic mistakes.

I'm 10 races into a series where I switch to Reggie when Sophy isn't available, or (like Redbull Ring) where weather is needed.

As I mentioned earlier, the biggest difference is what happens once you get ahead of the pack. Reggie drops off.
 
Did a little test today for my Keiterham(engine swap) Cup series. 30 mins at Laguna, 10 cars, 1T/1F, Championship damage. I started mid-pack and by the third lap I took first and thought, boring rest of 20 or so minutes. I was able to gap them by around 6 seconds. Then by around the 15 minute mark, I noticed the AI started breaking my FL by 2 -3 seconds. In fact a couple of them set FL and I couldn't get close to theirs. Two of them closed me down to a bit more than a second but I was able to hold them off. The weird one was one AI car just lagged so far behind, I lapped him by the end of the final lap. Watched the replay and he was down almost 10mph on all of us.
I'll retest with a rabbit, a regular powered Caterham. Fun car though with a lot of grip.

Doing some testing with all my touring car setups, its pretty cool. I like the new physics I think, but Gr,4 can be quite grippy. Not in all means fast, but on reggie these cars but on a fight, its fun. Too bad we can only time 20 max, since im now on 25 different cars eligible for DTM/JGTC/Group A racing. 4WD is still pretty powerful.
 
Back on my SpeedVision TC championship with SOPHY to sort the loose rear of the ‘98 Integras during braking. I have a lone EG that is preforming well with the same settings as the DC2s. Dialled as much understeer as possible for a baseline.

It was wild using ABS default. Switched to ABS weak and it was a bit more controlled. However, hard braking seems to give the sensation of locking the rears. It’s not going to help if I adjust brake bias as SOPHY doesn't have that capability.

Softened the rear suspension for a bit more stability. Helped heaps.
Really good hard racing by SOPHY. Was hard to pass and watching the aggressiveness now that SOPHY uses the curbs everywhere.

Did an initial semi-rage quit at Laguna Seca when I was going okay and then too much pressure on the brakes and I was talking to the rear spoiler.

Set F/R camber to -3.2/-2.6. It was a set up I heard about Roger Foo's SpeedVision TC EG, way back when he won a race at Laguna Seca.

Softened f/r damper expansion to 50.

I think it's more about modulating brake pressure. I can do it as a human, but may be too nuanced for SOPHY programming.

Anyway, it was an awesome 12 laps that I had to work for. Good stuff.
 
Anyone has tunes for cars in a JGTC GT500 grid, such as the F40/Viper GTS '02/Diablo/R33?
I've been running them against the holy trinity of GT500 cars (Supra/NSX/GT-R) but its hard to match them because of the massive downforce. Was wondering if anyone had some decent setups before I start downgrading the Gr. 3 cars.

I haven't posted in years and thats because I went on to make more Custom Race set ups as well as improve the one I had already.

...and I just didn't stop until today nearly 2 years later :lol:

48 Championships, all using different cars, most I designed the liveries for (the exceptions are Freeze Breeze Cup, Formula Classic (based on F1 97) and All Japan GT Championship (the cars based on JGTC liveriss I ported over)), all grinded for :lol:

They are structured into Tiers like its own Career Mode, idea being kinda like TOCA Race Driver 1 where getting enough points take you to the next tier though in this case there the Tier+ Championships inbetween Tiers which are the "boss" Championships

I'll give them a much closer look gradually overtime but here is my entire list.
