Apologies if someone has mentioned this already, but going by the trackside sponsors of WeatherTech & Mothers Polish (perhaps odd for a fictional circuit), I'd guess that Grand Valley is set in the United States.

Going by the images of its coastal proximity, I wouldn't be surprized if it was around the area of Pebble Beach, where the Concours d'Elegance is held at the famous Golf Course. (Also very close to Laguna Seca)

Let me know your thoughts! :D
It's highly likely. The bridge within Grand Valley is reminiscent of the Bixby Creek Bridge in California.

Well I'll be damned, I kind of thought Sophy was just another obscure project of PD's that will never make it into the game. I don't like that it's PS5-only, though. I wonder why that is.

Time to dust GT7 off, I guess. I wonder if Sophy is going to be an option I can toggle and maybe even tweak, and if it's going to influence event payouts. I really liked how difficulty tweaks did that in Forza.

Also PLEEEEEASE don't make the VR showroom VR-exclusive. I HATE how we have all these obsessively-detailed interiors in the game and we can barely look at them, even in cockpit cam. I really hope to see some FOV options other than what we currently have.

Overall this looks like a pretty cool update. Keep it up Polyphony, THAT'S how you do proper updates.

+2 with me, was never told that sophy was a PS5 exclusive, atleast for PS4 pro they should implement It.
Really hate this type of politics by Sony, we have paid the game only 10 euro less PS5 users not half- price
The CPU in the Pro has a higher clock speed but it's basically just the same as the original PS4.
Very little difference between the machines when it comes to something like this.

A lot of Sony's decisions pushing people toward the PS5 could be questioned, but don't think this is one of them.

I would imagine the PS4 Jaguar CPU cant handle Sophy?

It's very clearly modelled after the PCH, so assuming it is Bixby bridge area, about 20 miles from Pebble Beach.

I found this neat article on Jalopnik about the GT series’ graphic design for events, which is really funny because I was just reminiscing GT3’s “poster” designs not too long ago. While the article largely seems to focus on GT3, there are also comparisons to the graphic design for events in GT2, GTS, and GT7.

As I may’ve mentioned in this very thread, I think the change to just using screenshots in GT7 is because of the venue-based format of the campaign, rather than going by leagues.

Kinda annoyed that Sophy is PS5 only, but have fun racing for 💩 rewards 🤭😁 Though I expect it to become a permanent thing in the future, or perhaps for GT8 then? I think they are just testing it now for a bit, and seeing how it works, and improve it based on feedback. So this is basically a test to implement it later I think. Makes sense, since completely changing the AI takes time and it would be a big change, so it has to work very well.

But other than that great new cars for sure (especially for someone like me who likes the classic cars), and Grand Valley Highway looks gorgeous. Hopefully not a full on street course, since I am not a big fan of those. But still looks so nice, California has some very nice views. Pebble Beach, mountain views at San Diego etc. Would be a 10/10 update contentwise, if Sophy was to PS4 too, but 9/10 from me. They really had to deliver a new track, after no updates in January and been a while since Watkins Glen too. So great job PD 👍

Grand Valley Speedway/Highway is not very far from Special Stage Route X, which is, based geographically, in a futuristic shipping port in San Diego.

Last gen car models, FM7 was still using Xbox360 car models, they are finally updating the car models which is why FM8 is taking a while to come out.
Your question was to name a next gen game with more cars than GT7, FH5 is one such game. There's a good mix of carry over and new car modelling within FH5, plus you can actually look at the cars properly. Plus GT7 also has some last gen carryover anyway.

Ok, maybe I've found something interesting, maybe not. In the Gran Turismo Vision GT website, where they publish all the info about the VGT cars and proyect, the new Italdesing makes this reference about the Lotus Esprit. It might be just a reference non related to the actual game, but it seems particular to me because they don't have the Lotus license, as far as we know. I really wish that this is a clear signal that Lotus is coming back in the near future.

It also says that the Italdesing itself is made to run on snow... Maybe I'm into too much copium!

Definitely too much copium 😂 it’s likely mentioned as it’s (as far as I am aware) one of the most famous cars designed by them

I'd expect the track map for Grand Valley to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the original, due to the bridge positioning and the coastline being to the west in real life.

Also explains the "South Layout", which is most likely the previous versions "East Course"

You may recall Laguna Seca's track map was also rotated back on GT Sport for similar north-oriented reasons.

Looks like a really good update.

Some interesting cars, which I hope will feature in Sport Mode soon (and a couple of single player events to go with them wouldn't hurt, either).

A classic circuit can never be sniffed at.

I totally understand the PS5 exclusivity for the Sophy event, and although I'm disappointed I won't be trying it out myself, I'm grateful that next gen users finally have something worthy of their extra investment.

Even if there is some schadenfreude due to the time-limitedness of the thing 😋

Indeed, although it also encompasses areas further south.

As with previous updates, the full patch notes should include some more stuff once they're released, such as new offline events and minor features

Awesome work compiling these images together. It reminds me of how Tokyo Expressway is a condensed version of the real life roads.

I am honestly confused at the disappointment of people who aren't getting Sophy on PS4. With how much computing power it took to even get Sophy off the ground to start with in the first place (Which included god knows how many PS4s), what on earth made anyone think ONE PS4 could handle Sophy? (even if it were on the only slightly better PS4 Pro).

Also, at some point it was time to wind down on PS4 in general so there was no point putting this on what is now decade old hardware with effectively nothing worthwhile adding to it. As much as it still annoys me that I don't have a PS5 right now, I do not want to see what seems to an interesting idea dumbed down to the jankiest state possible just to run on something that's only impressive because its nowhere near the PITA to develop for like the PS3 was nor has the eternally long load times (If you ignore GT Sport because PD doing PD things I guess). One example is while I love that a Free-to-play game I'm on alot called Warframe has Crossplay across both platforms last gen and current gen (As well as PC), its only made more clear to me that its a far more enjoyable experience on newer hardware just purely because of the loading times. That and frankly between GT7 looking better on PS5 and now Tekken 8, PS4 offically has no reason for me to continue playing on it (Especially since the PS5 itself is basically two consoles in one, Three if you want to count the PS4 pro and it'll play PS4 games far better)

As for everything else, Grand Valley Highway (and not speedway interesting enough) is a very bold but interesting direction. Will need to see actual gameplay to really take it in, but its very intriguing. Cars of course are mostly in the old direction, but they are very interesting choices. We get closer to completing the circle as it were with the 911s, we get a 1960s Honda F1 car which I don't think even Codemasters as done to my memory, a Citroen that frankly beyond obscure to the public and only might be known thanks to Forza Horizon (and is probably driven by at most 10 people, probably 4 knowing how release week works) and a VGT from one of the few originally announced Manufacturers who still haven't made a VGT (which now leaves only...3?)

Hoping that Honda isn't in the ball park of 10m or more. I'd love to recreate the 1965 F1 grid fairly quickly
Total guesses, but I would say:
  • Citroen DS: Under 100k, they're still pretty cheap in real life but I imagine PD would bump it up to 60k or so
  • Honda 272: Probably the most expensive, I'd hazard a guess of the 800k to 1.5m window - it doesn't have that massive legacy or ubiquity of the likes of the MP4/4
  • Porsche 901 RS: Hard to say, I reckon maybe 300k to 600k

I think you can understand why something is the way it is and still be disappointed by it.

That said - as someone who has a PS5 and a PSVR2 on the way I CANNOT WAIT! :)

Depending on what it is, sure. In this case though again even as a stuck PS4 owner myself, I never really imagined this to be something that could even remotely be done on such old hardware from the beginning as what they were doing with it just seemed way too much to ask from what is effectively a budget low end PC spec wise so its not really shocking to me that it is a PS5 exclusive (Even if that had to be toned down itself, but its more recent and probably a far better system in general). That and frankly, I don't think ray-tracing was ever really a compelling enough reason to have a PS5 version of GT7 over a PS4 version so having PSVR2 AND Sophy (Assuming you are into that) kinda serves as that 1-2 marketing punch to make a more compelling reason to have the PS5 version if you have the money for said console and peripheral (or if you're like me, enter every damn contest there is because surely you'll win one this time  )

Quite a compelling product, isn't it?

I think they will implement Sophy permanently in GT7 in the future, maybe around late 2023 or 2024 with 24h endurance races missions with Sophy AI+B-spec mode. This game has so much potential, and we are still pretty much in the early stage of it's life ;)

Those test timed missions are probably only a first test to receive feedback and then improve it to allow it be fully implemented when it's completely done.
