I wouldn’t call them lazy, I mean they’re modelling cars all the time in incredible detail. That surely takes a hell of a lot of work.

And I guess this is what I’m asking, your second point. I’d have thought making/programming events would require nowhere the time and expense of modelling a car, let alone 3-5 of them. Unless it actually is really hard work to do that?

I can’t imagine actually coming up with events is difficult, there’s so many from past games that people would be delighted to see again - as well as just adding to what’s already there.

So it must be a deliberate decision to not do this, right? I just can’t understand it.

I think a 4th option may be that the poor AI is deliberate to allow you feel that comeback magic by racing the back of the field to the race win. If they used better AI that may not be possible. Of course this is all speculation on my part

I do admit I'm also a bit puzzled by the lack of some regulations for some events, and given that the GT Cup Gr.3 events were effectively "ret-conned" into being BoP events, I wonder how else PD could change the regulations for other events? Here were my ideas:

-The Gr.1 Prototype Series would limit eligible cars to those that are actually in Gr.1. But I don't really have a preference whether BoP is enabled, or if there's a 950PP limit.

-I always found it a bit odd that the Sunday Cup Classic doesn't really do something similar to the post-launch Alsace One Hour race does, wherein you'd only be able to enter a car from 1979 or earlier. Or at least something that gives the event some definition, especially compared to the Historic Sports Car Masters and Neo-Classic Competition events. It clearly seems like the Sunday Cup Classic is geared at historic models with less power, like the Mini Cooper or Citroen DS, so why not have some sort of regulation for that? (EDIT: Oh, right, I think it's because these races are required for one of the first menu books in the game, so I suppose they can't be too regulated. Still, making sure you're actually entering a classic car would be nice.)

-I can't remember if the GT Cup Gr.4 races were also changed to have BoP on. I don't see why they shouldn't have BoP, if only to further differentiate them from the WTC 700.

Also, I know most cars that the AI uses in the WTC 900 are from Gr.2, but I do still see some JGTC-era GT500 cars sometimes. I wonder if, in spite of technically being Gr.3 cars, they could truly be tuned to 900PP? If so, it sort of reminds me of how the Toyota Celica rally car has a relatively lower amount of power for a Gr.B car, but when BoP is on, I think its power goes up notably.

EDIT: I also just realized there's no Ferrari Circuit Challenge race at Monza. I wonder if such a race could be added upon the addition of another Ferrari road car? Heck, why not throw in a race set in Japan, too? Especially if the SP1 returns.

EDIT2: Also, I'm truly curious as to what the next set of Weekly Challenges could look like. Even in the worst-case scenario, it could be that PD simply wanted to change the day of the week that they get refreshed. But I would totally be down with a larger variety of challenges, like maybe if all five of them were "Special Events" so that you don't have to potentially repeat races you've already cleared. Especially if they have interesting regulations, like the Alsace One Hour did.

There are rather 3 possilibities:


1) They're lazy
2) Events take too much time to make/program
3) They are holding most of the events/challenges when big updates are dropping

I would say is deliberate when was decided to make the game a live service as it is what usually happen with this business model (constant but small portions of content added)

I don't think it's any of these. I think they just want to drop new stuff gradually in order to prolong the life of the game, and in their defense, it does seem to be working. I can't say I really mind it, either, as I still have some World Circuits events to clear, and even when I'm done with those, there'll still be various championships and online time trials where I can earn tons of more credits in a fun way. That, of course, is before we mention the fact we'll likely get more Bonus/Extra Menus, new races in World Circuits, and new cars. Hopefully we'll get more tracks and mission sets, too.

I can do without the P1; but if "everyone" will like said car those are cars I'm sure everyone would.

GT Cup Gr.4 races are indeed BoP'd (+ Brake Balance adjustable) now.

On a more serious note, it suggests that they are listening to us in some extent but early days yet.
 
What planet is that guy on? There are something like 40 Group 3 Race Cars in the game, 30 of which are pretty useless competitively because of the BoP. Any new car added would fall into one of two categories:

1. Overpowered BoP to make sure it gets used by everyone all of the time until we're all bored of the sight of it

2. Not overpowered, relegated to the discard pile and we never want to use it

It’s the kind of assumption that may very well lead to disappointment. GT7 was PD’s opportunity to give people the kind of GT game most players wanted after GT Sport, but they didn’t. I fail to see why GT8 will be much different then.

GT7 'for me' is mainly with the PSVR2 and an updated VR experience from GTsport...honestly don't know if I had any expectations at all for GT7 besides the VR2 meeting expectations (it exceeded), which makes is kind of fun for me. I also have only had the game since last march and have only logged 40 hours, which is due to running a self employed business, and I play other games like the WRC, and whatevers in the PSPlus. Am an audiTT fan, so I liked the update that I finally got around to doing over the weekend.

Honestly if and when GT8 comes out, unless its ground breaking from launch, I will still likely be working on GT7 for the seeable future. I fired up GT5 mainly for Bspec

Probably, so the third option seems to be the most likely. They are holding out lots of content for more significant updates. it is clearly still too early for GT8

I would love the Escort Cosworth, or even any other Ford Escort, just don't make that an american car again(as they did with the Sierra)
While it is true, that Ford was originally american brand, both the Escort and the Sierra are per any definition european cars...

Road cars are a more difficult task. We have a shorter list of datamined cars now but they are still a bunch. Other than that, the Corvette C5 could be a nice addition and would fit Pody's aim to fill the gaps here and there.

The E36 was in the 98 Z3 M Coupe that was in older GT games...good engine for sure not sure why PoDi couldn't get the E36-M3 for any of their games.

May I ask why people constantly are talking about GT8 when GT7 is still being supported? Do you think it will offer an experience far beyond what GT7 does? I personally don’t think so. I believe GT7 provides exactly what PD wants to do these days.

The nature of videogames is titles will be in development years before an official announcement. As such we can be be fairly certain GT8 is already well into development - this will have a direct impact on the efforts, features & content being put into GT7. PD are in the business of selling videogames and generating revenue. While GT7 still has very good sales legs we are past it's sales peak and there's no means to generate significant revenue from existing users.

I expect we have one good year of support left for GT7 - with the last hurrah being a PS5 Pro update and PC port. If GT8 isn't imminent (next 12-18 months) there's a possibility they could release a paid PS5/Pro SKU of GT7. This would attract new players, double-dippers, plus an upgrade route for existing users. We see all across Sony's studios remakes, remasters, special editions, PC ports of PS4/PS5 titles to keep revenue flowing while a new title is in the worlks.

GT7 is a halfway house live service title as there's no means to monetise existing users. Sure, you can purchase credits, but most dedicated players will have no need for this. The most obvious way to monetise a live service GT (beyond cars & tracks which could split the userbase) is cosmetics such as bodykits, interior parts, wheels etc. It's fair to say those things are only likely to be in place (if at all) for GT8.

I don't think any road car would satisfy the most disgruntled sections of the community. Not least because we've already had some very cool models like the 992 GT3 RS, LFA, Valkyrie, NISMO R32. It would have to be something very special like the T.50 or much requested 296.

The glaring omission of the past 12 months has been race cars.
