I agree!

I wonder how long this generation will last given the current trends, there's just no way to provide a substantial upgrade in PS6 in 2027 with a decent mass market price of 400-500 bucks. PS5 Pro is a joke and expensive as hell for a meager 40% power boost but that's not entirely Sony's fault I think, just the way things are right now. I would be fine with a 2030 release for PS6, there's really no reason to do it earlier than that, barely any games that take advantage of PS5 as it is.

Ps5 has been completely underwhelming so far. It’s been the generation of remasters
Ironically Xbox studios' output has been pretty good this generation but it's too late to change the tide of console wars. Sony is kinda doing nothing and enjoying high sales regardless.

I mostly agree with this statement.

Personally, I blame Jim Ryan for his push for live-service games to chase that infinite growth and the trends of the lockdown.

That has stifled so many teams, if you think of the cancelled projects (of the ones we know about).

It's true its been pretty baron - but we have had incredible titles like FFXVI, Spider-Man 2, Astro Bot etc - not to mention the titles which have released on PS4, which have PS5 versions. Plus, if you look at 3rd party, we've had some of the most amazing games I've ever played in Metaphor ReFantazio and Clair Obscur Expedition 33 recently.

Hopefully, we'll be hearing what Sony first party are doing soon. We know Sucker Punch are delivering Ghost of Yotei on Oct 2nd and Housemarque are bringing Saros at some point. I imagine Naughty Dog are looking for 2027 for Intergalactic The Heretic Prophet and we'll here more from Insomniac with Wolverine and Santa Monica soon (I hope).

The good news is that for the first few years of PS6, the games will be cross gen, to take advantage of the install base of PS5 and who knows what the price of the next system is going to be. So while the start has been slow, hopefully it picks up from here.

Notice I haven't mentioned PD on here, because they always dance to the beat of their own drum and seemingly operate in a vacuum to the rest of the industry...

I find it's important to remember that it's a miracle that any video game comes out, given the current state of the industry - so I am thankful for that.

And to think when the ps6 is released of to what will happen. It will be far more overwhelming and mind-blowing than the ps5 and gt7. The graphics and gameplay will be out of this world.

I expect late 2027 to see PS6 - it will be faster by default with new Zen 5 or 6 possibly with 3D cache and brand new UDNA gpu - probably wont be 500 bucks but more like 600-700

PS5 Pro is ok , its pretty much how in PC you buy new gpu to get more perfomance which Pro is basically that + 2TB ssd

one thing that still bothers me that HDMI bandwith is still limited which they could rather easily fix that

but its still much better than Xbox Series X refresh lol

Might be the smallest generational jump ever, you need at least 10x the power for a meaningful difference, that's not happening obviously, they're really gonna struggle to sell this thing between diminishing returns on graphics and high pricing amid a cost of living crisis. Riding out the PS5 until 2030 would be the smarter play considering xbox is no longer a direct competitor, so no pressure there.

Agreed! I just hope a GT8 PS5 exclusive.

So ps6 lunch title? Mmmm i do not think so. To me holiday 2026 or march 2027. Oooooor late 2028/beginning of 2029. I do not see GT as a lunch title.
A GT in final year of ps5? Dont think so. Last time they did that (GT6) it was the worst sold GT.
And PD likes to make a mark, leave people saying "wow". To do that they will make use of the improved "horsepower" of the ps6.
Ofc there will be a ps5 downgraded version.

Aaaand therein lies the utter contradiction of this mindset.

I personally would feel more "wow" at a fully fleshed out, single-console PS5 version of what we already have, with all the little wrinkles ironed out of course.

Personally, I will have to accept to buy a PS6, I won´t make the same mistake with PS4 and GT7, until I got the PS5, on PS4 was unplayeable due to the load times in every aspect of the game.

At most PS6 will allow more RT features being used in-game, adding RTGI, RTAO and shadows is an easy across the board upgrade that doesn't require much dev time, but will take up most of the performance improvements. Sophy being implemented in career is another obvious improvement to make. Maybe using frame generation to reach 240 fps or something. Car models are good as is, track models are good too, maybe improve the trees.

If there's anyone still considering upgrading from PS4 to PS5, the Days of Play promotion starting tomorrow is likely to be the cheapest time for quite a while to grab the newer console (considering the recent price increases for both Xbox and Playstation, and the ongoing economic uncertanties).

  • In the United States and Canada, PlayStation 5 console – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle (Digital and Standard) will be available starting at $399.99 USD / $509.99 CAD (Save up to $119.99 USD / $159.99 CAD compared to buying separately).
  • In select regions such as Europe and Asia, PlayStation 5 console (Digital and Standard) will be on promotion, starting at €399.99 / £339.99 / ¥65,980.
  • $50 USD off PlayStation 5 Pro console
  • $50 USD off PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle
GT7 is likely to be half price as well, but I'm assuming anyone here already has it.

Well I hope gt8 will be released on the ps5 and ps6, because I won't be able to afford a Playstation 6 right now, I'm buying another ps5 that's on sale. @Fezzik it's too bad I'm missing out on those great offers. I wish I had a time machine to go back to November 2024, before I had sold my ps4. Too late now.

I would also love it if it had compatibility for both PS5, PS5 Pro and PS6. I got a PS5 Pro for 1000$'ish and I hope support for it will last at that price! 😅

My old PS5 was in very bad state of wear back then before I got my PS5 Pro.

There is no way they will ignore the massive PS5 userbase and the performance gap won't be large enough to make it impossible to run on PS5 either.

To be honest, I preferred the transitions from GT3 to GT4 and from GT5 to GT6 more than the jump from GT4 to GT5 or from GT6 to GT Sport. So I just hope GT8 will be a major release—packed with well-organized, high-quality content and a bit more logical structure.

I'm gonna make a solid bet we'll get a lot more city courses in GT8, as I hypothesize that the lack of them in GTS/GT7 is due to hardware limitations. I'd guess something similar for multi-class racing and larger grids overall.

Glad I just spent £200 on my car.
Oof, I'm about to spend £600 on mine...new discs and pads all around, major service and MOT...

I advisories about my brakes on the last MOT, figured I'd get them sorted now rather than potentially failing.

MOT and a bit of cosmetic bodywork here. Might need to get it dry ice-blasted and some lanoguard on there too; 17-year old CX-7 is already past its rot-by-date.

Also, the CX-7 was in past GTs as the MX-Crossport, so... coming back when, Kaz? :D

I'm sure GT's perfectionist leaning make the reasons behind it worse, but city courses are barely in games at all these days, it's not just a PD thing.

I assume the biggest problem is that none of a city course's assets are re-usable - every building has to be unique in the way that something like trees don't, so you can't get away with any asset re-use. This is why a ton of open world games take longer to develop in the 4K era, it's four times the fidelity per asset than 1080p and that factors in to dev times.

So I wouldn't be expecting more than one city course anytime soon unless there's some kind of tech breakthrough that makes 4K assets easier to develop.

It's also why GTA clones have died out, making city based open worlds has become too expensive and long, nobody aside from Rockstar can afford it anymore.
