The Gran Turismo social media posts, updates, and what they mean for you: A Guide
Thought I'd make a quick post on this now that people are actively tracking these, to clear up misconceptions and/or overly optimistic dreams surrounding them (this month could be a regular May 29 update and it would still fit the pattern, for example).
1) What is the buzz around these posts? Why do people care?
Gran Turismo's social media platforms (I use Instagram for this, other platforms are available) post featurettes of the cars in the previous update. You know it's a featurette because it will have the images used in the news post for the previous update, and on Instagram at least, the description is literally the in-game description from the Car Collection screen.
Why are these interesting? Because, since they've started, there has invariably been a content update one to three weeks after the
final post, and conversely, and maybe more importantly, there have been no updates that do not follow this pattern.
So for a year now, it's been fairly predictive of content updates. It's something we can use to predict PD, which is a vanishingly rare trait for such a secretive dev so people have grabbed onto it.
2) How long has this been happening for?
The first set of these posts was in March 2024, for the cars featured in the v1.43 February 2024 update (the Evo IX, second-gen TT, Renault R4 update). They have followed for every update since, including before the silhouette-less July 2024 update.
3) You bolded "final". Does the first social media post mean anything?
It means an update is coming, but not necessarily that month. Multiple months have started posting these in the middle of a month, spread to the next month, and then the update has been the normal time of the second month.
It does seem to mean an update is at least coming down the pipe, though.
4) Do all cars get a social media post?
No. The F3500, Gr.1 Genesis VGT, and Skoda VGT did not get a post, suggesting that VGTs and PD-created fictional cars will not (thought the Mission X did, so it's not a blanket rule for concept cars). The Ioniq 5 and Afeela also did not - these cars had specific extra marketing around them.
5) Do the posts happen a certain time before the update/silhouettes?
No. Notably, the first post of the January 2025 cars (the C-HR) happened less than 24 hours before the February silhouettes went up. May 2024, by contrast, was done with its sole post of the Chevelle by May 9 - a full three weeks before the update was released!
6) Do posts around other pieces of content (Scapes, Extra Menus, Sophy, new wheels, etc) matter?
I believe not, these seem to always immediately follow the release of an update instead of waiting for just before the next one. These are relatively recent additions though, so this could change.
7) Is there any guarantee this trend continues?
Absolutely not. PD and/or the social media team could even see us talking about it and deliberately change tactics just to mess with us, were they to be so mean! Indeed, if the May 2025 update is in the normal spot, I'd argue that's the trend over.
8) Is this at all predictive as to what content is coming?
Not at all. Sorry, you aren't discerning an impending GT3 car/R390 or track from these!
9) Can I see the raw data?
Certainly:
