I meant Gr3 cars

Really? Have you driven the Caterham? That is a slidey beast. Entertaining though.

If you mean unlimited grip in that we can actually catch and control (many) slides now, rather than just spin out into the barrier then you may be right. What I notice is that there is much more power understeer to lift off oversteer transition in the cars I've tried so far which is not many.

Hey guys, since the new update my ghost setting (0.3s ahead, resets every sector) has gone inconsistent — sometimes it’s ahead like normal, but often after a sector reset it’s behind me in the rearview instead, right in my line of sight. Anyone else seeing this since the update?
Yeah, I did the Espace F1 Circuit experience to see what it was like, and the ghost kept disappearing behind me on the 1 lap attack, each sector change put it even further behind.

Also I have been back on motion steering again on DS4 and it is ruined 😔

I have a major deadzone when holding the controller straight and then entering a turn, the red dot doesn't move until I've moved the controller at least 5 degrees.

I also have had to set all 3 settings (controller sensitivity, ffb torque, ffb sensitivity) to 10 just to get any sort of feel of turning.

Once I'm in a corner it then becomes very twitchy and over sensitive.

I get horrendous understeer but also I don't get the effect wheel users are having in Gr3 cars of steering more to gain traction, I just go further and further off.

I have tried a few different types of cars, tracks and tires, and nothing seems at all consistent on motion steering anymore.

Think I'm going to be sitting out for a while until there is another change 😔

@Barareklam thought I'd tag you so you see my thoughts on it.

Has anyone noticed any changes with fuel economy? The R92CP I always use for the Sardegna 800 race had its PP increased with the update, so I lowered the power until it met the requirement again, but I've noticed that it now consumes more fuel than it used to. Has anyone made similar observations on other cars or races?

I tried it for first time today.. did 100 km, I think it's actually good direction where they heading with physics... Also as someone who played a lot both with a wheel and controller, it's going to be much more fun for wheel players.. It actually made me buy wheel again, but atm I can't.. Definitely need some polishing but very brave direction I think and in many aspects game feels more realistic

I believe this is a big mess. The Michelin update 1.49 was a good and plenty of people (including me) appreciate the reactions of the car. Tyres felt much more realistic.

I don't believe moving the game to a more arcade is a good idea. I believe it is disrespectful to all players who have spent time and money to improve their driving and now players with a pad are faster thanks to the strange phyics of the suspension and tiers.

I understand that improving suspension reactions was a good idea but this update wasn't ready to be implemented. Sports tires seems a good improvement (not perfect) but racing tires are a step back. GR3, GR1 and GR4 BOP are broken. Cars fell so arcade. Unrealistic.

It will never not be funny to me how PD likes to drop these game-defining physics updates in a random update like this one  Spec II or Spec III? Nah, pick the most random 1.XX number and completely change how you play the game, that'll definitely earn the trust of our esteemed player base :sly:

For what it's worth, I did some races using the Caterham in the 170 configuration (that isn't compatible for the Kei car race btw) and, to me at least, it felt a little too easy to catch from a slide.

It's too big:
GTPlanet August Update Article
That starts with the Caterham, which has a rare downgrade available in the shape of the Suzuki Jimny’s 660cc unit. This one is obviously inspired by the Seven 160/170, which had a similar turbocharged Suzuki engine (just with more power) to make it eligible for kei car benefits in Japan — though it was a special narrow-body version of the car, not the standard chassis of the Superlight.
For reference, and 'cos I checked beforehand:

Caterham Seven 160/170 - Width 1470mm
Kei Car Regulations - Width 1480mm
Caterham Seven Standard Body - Width 1575mm
Caterham Seven Wide Body - Width 1685mm

Both the Seven Fireblade we had in GT4-6 and the Seven Superlight we have in GT7 are standard bodies. The one I solo-built in 80hr for a magazine was a widebody and then went onto Caterham's press fleet

yes, definitely some changes to fuel consumption. Prior to the update, I'd have to up the map to 6 for 1 lap in order to pit on lap 9. Now since the update I have to run FM 6 for laps 7, 8 and 9.

Controller player here. I'm on your side when it comes to physics and to their methods, but thinking that a simcade massively played by controller users may left them apart forever sounds a bit naive.

They’re probably loosening the reins, knowing that GT7 is likely nearing the end of its lifecycle.

I find it hilarious how people drive gr3 on slicks - preferrably RS, and call the update "arcadey". If you have too much grip, try other tires! 😂 yes racing tires have a bit too much grip at the moment. And yes, grip doesnt fall off as it should when turning the tires over the natural usable slip angle. Those are a bit of bugs at the moment and will propably be fixed as soon as they have gathered enough data on the new update. But that doesnt make the game "ruined" and "arcadey". I hope they roll back nothing and just start fine tuning what we have in 1.71. I think its far better starting point for future progress than what we had.

When I follow the whole discussion here, I can’t believe my eyes. I haven’t had any problems at all so far with the update or the physics. It’s different, yes, but I like it and, after a bit of getting used to it, I’m managing just fine. I think the physics, as they are now, are good and make sense to me, so I can’t complain. I’m using the Logitech RS 50 steering wheel and, after tweaking the FFB settings, I’m pretty satisfied. I haven’t had any problems on tarmac, nor any issues with rally driving, which is something I often read about here. I still need to test the group cars in more detail, but so far I haven’t noticed anything negative. I’d be interested to know why everyone’s so divided – just find a setup that works for you and have fun!

Hmm.. it seems the massive overload problems are back with fanatec DD PRO. I updated the latest firmware and turned on FullForce - after half a lap in Redbull Ring and FullForce already at 50% the base went to infinite right spin at full ffb and I had to shut it down. I had good 12+ hours of driving during last 3 days with zero issues. I must say Fanatec is pretty terrible at testing their firmwares. Its certainly not the first time..

Edit. Havent had this happen again. Maybe random bug.

Edit2. And it happened again.. thats not good..

I'm a bit surprised at some of the reaction in here to the physics update. I drove around 6 hours (street cars on Sport Tires) over the weekend and think the tweaks are brilliant. Losing and regaining traction with the tires seems CONSIDERABLY more linear and consistent than before. Vehicle rotation also seems improved - trailbraking and lifting to initiate rotation seems more natural than before. And the 2 friends that raced with over the weekend feel the same way about the changes.

It's also that the dailies are hot garbage. The Track Limits at Yas are junk. Maggiore reverse is not nearly as popular as the proper direction and the Mazda Roadster at Daytona is super niche in terms of who enjoys that specific type of racing.

I don't think it's a hatred of the physics I think it's more how late in the week the update came and how undesired these dailies really are.

That said WHY DID PD CHANGE ANYTHING?!

I said this in another thread but I can't see a reason why they would have done anything. Obviously this is all anecdotal but I haven't seen major complaints from players (pro or otherwise) about the physics. I haven't seen massive updates to the cars/weird tracks that would require revisiting that area of the code base. To me it makes exactly as much sense as when Microsoft continually updates the UI for Word and Excel.

I don't need a new ribbon I need things to work exactly as they have for the last 10 years. Don't change things just to change things. Change when required sure or when new ideas happen but ffs I have yet to see anyone provide a reasonable explanation as to why PD felt the need to do this.
I feel your pain and others who put a lot of effort into tuning. I kind of suspected PD would mess with this and never personally tuned many cars beyond basic setups for specific races. And this was in large part because physics can change and because it is also very time consuming to verify setups.
Overall it is disappointing how PD manages this but unfortunately not engaging g with their community before making drastic changes is typical for PD.

I don't think there is a right answer for this as there's too many things that can or have been changed or are different between car(s).

Even if a car has the same aero, numerically, it might be affected because the min and max settings for aero have changed. For example, if there was a car with front aero vales from 50-150, and you had the aero value at 100, this would be half (50%) of your available adjustment.

But, if update V1.71 has changed the min / max values to 50-200, your '100' is no longer half of what is available, that would now be '125'.

This would affect your setup and how the car feels, except PD has really gone to town with screwing with people's setups as they have changed spring and damper values / ranges too. These are some of the values / variables that can be related to aero and subsequently how a car feels.

So even if you do return your car to the same aero levels of pre V1.71, unfortunately, there's no guarantee this will 'fix' the / any issue. The impact of this is also going to very according to what type of setup you had on the car, setups that had stiff springs will probably be less affected as these changes cater more for that type of setup, so you're less likely to feel a big difference.

This is made even more complicated as the aero changes across all car(s) affected are not the same, either numerically or statistically i.e. %. Aero updates are not +50 or -50 and neither + or - 50%.

That's just the setup, PP points / calculation also looks like it might be different, especially the WTC800 'grind builds' where having min / max aero setup was good for the PP rating.

Keep your eye on tuning section, I'll be posting something later.

In the meantime, I'm still going with this
Don't panic, save your old setup and try and be patient 👍

EDIT: without knowing what car and spec you're talking about it's hard to be specific with a right answer to or for the situation, if you post details or even screenshot of settings then that would make it easier to be a bit more specific
I appreciate the reply mate,i`ve tried to go back to my previous set up but its not the same. Some of the fanbase like the change, others not so,its a bit of a nightmare but we will have to wait and see what happens.

now "every" car consumes more and is slower. made my no stop strategies not fun OnO (except sarthe 30 mins, you can still do on FM6 without problems on rx7 787b engine)

Would you mind sharing your settings?

The physics isn't really the problem. In fact, it's an improvement. GT7 has been progressively moving towards making traction loss more linear, which is more in line with realism. Release version of physics was a joke compared to this, as cars would break traction too easily. I remember a license test in the wet with the M3 E30 in which the car (fitted with Sport tires) would slide with very little power applied.

In 2026 we still have people with the mindset of harder = more realistic, or trying to defend an advantage acquired by their understanding of now old physics. Grippier physics don't level the playing field... Faster people will still be faster. It wasn't just an increase in grip, they changed tire behavior in a way you need a more aggressive driving style to be fast. Better turn-in, progressive grip loss making it easier to steer the car with the throttle, these contribute to favoring aggression rather than smoothness and make the game more fun as well. FR cars were the most improved.

The real issue is whatever they did with the input filtering on pads which makes the cars wobble and interfere with your driving. It's too strong an implementation. Sometimes I feel like there's a magnet straightening the car against my will. Even reminds me of the NFS games made by Ghost Games. Which should tell everyone how bad it is.

Turning the wheel 90 degrees on half worn softs in a GR1 car and experiencing no grip loss is in no way more in line with realism. The grip is infinite with no drop off in high downforce cars. Point and shoot, much like the Forza Horizon games

I too am baffled by the range of strong opinions on these changes. Some so strong, they seem like troll posts. Claiming the entire opposite end of the spectrum vs many others here. Doesn't make any sense. The only stuff I haven't driven are the Gr3/Gr4 cars because they've always been easy to drive/boring. Gr4 still cool though.

The behavior seems so much better now. So much more in line with what I've heard "real world" drivers ask for, and yet now its the opposite

I also don't necessarily understand the complaints with custom tunes. I spent tons of hours across dozens of cars messing with settings in an effort to get them to handle more neutral and now they generally do it out of the box. I've also used my old tunes and haven't seen any real issue. I can just tweak a couple suspension settings if necessary, or at worst, reset the suspension settings to the new default and make a couple tweaks from scratch and it's done.

LSD settings were another pain in the butt. Everything I was previously doing was trying to bandaid weird handling to get stuff more neutral. Sometimes I'd succeed, but the cars would still never oversteer and slide progressively like they do now.

I've never noticed downforce settings do anything anyway. I've done back to back testing in the same car with higher or lower settings front, back, both etc. Top speed might change by 2 mph. Grip doesn't seem to change 🤷‍♂️ This was with the previous physics. So I don't see what the big deal is about "losing" these previous settings. Maybe I'll experiment again with the update.

Now, if you're talking about having a bunch of custom settings to BoP your own custom race series grid. Then sure, that sucks. But also kinda crazy to do that to begin with lol No one to blame but yourself for doing it.

I did some racing in some dynamic weather last night, with my old NSX race car that I've struggled setting up because of snappy behavior.. Glorious now. It took some finesse driving in the wet and I could slide a little and still catch and hold it.

Still getting the weird tire/body binding issue with the E36 M3. I'm not sure the car is even really lowered but it was still doing it. Kept jacking up the spring rates until it seemed to not do it as easily. The wheel/tire/body clearance stuff should be addressed.

Hopefully they don't reverse any of this. Maybe a small tweak here and there. But based on previous experience, they'll probably whip it way back in the other direction, over correct, and we'll go back to weird/understeery/safe handling.

I tried the most unstable car (for me) I've experienced in the game so far, 1950s open wheel Maserati. It's now stuck to the track like superglue.

Changed from CS to the lowest available, comfort hards, and it still took a bit of effort to get it to let go.

I just don't see how this is better, or sustainable. Did a hypercar race with friends last night and it was crazy, 100% throttle in any gear, no problem (RM tyres).

I'm going to give rallying a 2nd chance, driving on track is just so depressing at the moment knowing how much time and effort has gone into the cars in my garage, which, just feels like a waste of time.

Oh well..

Go back to that hypercar and use SM tires - depression fixed..👍

Has anyone else noticed AI behavior has also changed? Used to be in the DLC endurance races the AI was movable but didn't often bin it.

I'm in 1st right now because there's been two massive pile ups AND the viper has spun through the esses before the little carousel twice in 6 laps.

It was never like this before and this isn't the first time I've seen it since the update dropped

Did some Caterham racing with some friends over the weekend and it was some of the most fun i've ever had on the game. The car always being on the edge of grip in corners made for a fantastic driving experience.

It's been a really long time since I last played GT7 (life happens, basically), but with everyone talking about the new physics and me finally getting to play my PS5 after what felt like an eternity, I had to find this out myself (note: I haven't touched GT7 since January of this year until now, so this is a completely new experience for me) by of course, driving around the Nordschleife.

1000044485.webp

(Ignore the Twingo on the bottom, that was my acclimatisation lap to rewire my brain )

So, about what people said that road cars seem to drive more easier than before and there seems to be more grip, well I could say that it's true. Previously whenever I do lap around the Nordschleife I always put the TC to 2 to prevent the car from sliding around wildly. Now, even with TC 0 I could easily catch it when the car feels like it's going to spin (except the 296, that thing is just so wild that I had to use TC 1 and the lap was generally very messy). People also mentioned how the cars now feel better to drive on controller and well, as a lifetime controller player I could also say that's also true. I felt the cars generally feel nicer to drive now and I could turn down the sensitivity and still get the car to turn around. And yeah, the cars now turn in much more easily than previously as well!

About the new cars added, well haven't got to test the X100s and the Ioniq, but the Caterham was genuine fun. Great acceleration, good grip, bit understeery but still managable and it does kick the rear if you apply the throttle a bit early on exit, but its easily catchable.

Now, people did say the Gr. 3s have been hit pretty bad with this new update, but I haven't tested them yet. For now though, it does look like road cars are much of a bliss to drive now. That's all I could say now for a guy who haven't played for over 6 months now.

I have the same problem during races that last more than 20 minutes

I restart the steering wheel, and it works again.

Im glad im not the only one to notice this,I was beginning to think I was imagining it. 👍 Time to mess a little more with pad settings to see if I can reduce it.

I also noticed it quite a lot. Its especially bad (even broken) in the weekly race with the Mitsubishi Evo offroad, for me its literally undriveable. Other than that, driving feels a bit simplified compared to before but as GT7 is my casual racing game anyway, i don't mind that too much

I think what they did is a double-edges sword. They removed deadzone from the middle of the steering, so the forces start swaying the steering from left to right. This is very clearly felt in steering wheel FFB, and I like it. No dead zone means you have constant uninterrupted control on the front wheels, but as I said, its double-edged - no dampening/deadzone means oscillation when trying to go straight. This is a lot worse in some cars than others, and I can imagine its sub-optimal for gamepad users if the setting is the same. I can not understand why PDI cant let us choose our own preferenced deadzone - only way to make everybody happy.

Its a classic case of PDI patronizing players. Steering settings, on-screen gauges, view distance and fov.. the list goes on. Has been for years. Is this a cultural thing?
