Because telling someone who's does this professionally for real that they are "Wrong" has always worked out well...
Well, back in the days Sebastien Loeb was saying the same about the Pescarolo in GT4.

My first impression was that the cars simply felt better to drive, and my first feeling was that the cars setup simply made them more drivable..

Because before the update i always felt like you had to drive around the weakness of the car or find a setup that made the cars easier to drive.

So are we mad that we don't have waste hours setting the car up?

After having had more time driving, i fully agree with Tidge about how racecars, specifically BOP GT Sport cars have their setups to be extremely understeery. As for road cars, they handle better now but the steering wheel issue needs to be sorted out for controller users.

The physics isn't really the problem. In fact, it's an improvement. GT7 has been progressively moving towards making traction loss more linear, which is more in line with realism. Release version of physics was a joke compared to this, as cars would break traction too easily. I remember a license test in the wet with the M3 E30 in which the car (fitted with Sport tires) would slide with very little power applied.

In 2026 we still have people with the mindset of harder = more realistic, or trying to defend an advantage acquired by their understanding of now old physics. Grippier physics don't level the playing field... Faster people will still be faster. It wasn't just an increase in grip, they changed tire behavior in a way you need a more aggressive driving style to be fast. Better turn-in, progressive grip loss making it easier to steer the car with the throttle, these contribute to favoring aggression rather than smoothness and make the game more fun as well. FR cars were the most improved.

The real issue is whatever they did with the input filtering on pads which makes the cars wobble and interfere with your driving. It's too strong an implementation. Sometimes I feel like there's a magnet straightening the car against my will. Even reminds me of the NFS games made by Ghost Games. Which should tell everyone how bad it is.
I agree with this. I think people still confuse harder to drive with more realistic.

Assetto Corsa EVO is a good example.
Some of the road cars have a surprising amount of grip and are actually quite forgiving when driven properly, but that doesn't make them unrealistic. Real road cars can have a lot of grip, especially modern sports cars.
What matters is how the car behaves at the limit: weight transfer, tire deformation, progressive loss of grip etc

I'd even say that arcade-style games or those that fall somewhere in between are harder to get the hang of because they aren't necessarily logical.

Whereas a pure simulation is easy to drive but hard to master.

PD make the cars more enjoyable thanks to a tyre that behaves like a real tyre, and all those who've manipulated the tuning to make the car feel like one are up in arms that the devs can actually make a road car feel enjoyable by default.

That's very true. I don't think I've ever driven an easier simulator than the good old Live For Speed, even though the bottom tier road cars had tyres coated with teflon (probably realistic cheapest possible Chinese tyres) it was still easy as everything in it made sense. Of course things got hairy with the faster cars but it was simply a case of lacking skill.

I kind of tried to address that in an earlier post in some of these threads. I have a feeling that many people with noticable handling issues are those whose cars have something really extreme done to them, my own ones have "boring realistic" setups with mild camber and toe angles, actually roadworthy ride heights and spring rates, comfort or sports tyres on road cars and Racing Hards on modern racers, and no problems anywhere. No terminal understeer when entering corners, no total lack of power oversteer, no... nothing weird. Cars behave like cars do.

after around 500 km in the game post update, I have to say they really cooked with this one. also one small thing, sense of speed is now better too

I like the new physics as well, but hoping the wobbles wasn't planned and will be ironed out in a future update.

I was more joking about two times where certain devs were offered constructive feedback by actual drivers and both times rejected said feedback, both times doing more harm for them then good.

My biggest issue is the unrealistic increased steering angle on group 3 cars. I wish there was a way to adjust it in game or on my G Pro but if I change it on the G Pro it just switches back to 1080.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:
I mentioned the below quote towards the end of 2024 about the game throttle. It was actually one of the reasons why I stopped playing GT7 around that time as I didn't enjoy the throttle application required. I haven't played the update but from some videos I have seen, they seem to have improved that in a more realistic direction and maybe this is the aspect he finds more similar to the real car.

It seems in general there has been quite a negative reaction to the physics but for me it is a positive as it means maybe the next-generation GT game when they release it will give cars a more planted and driveable feeling and this update is potentially meant to be an early look into that direction.

Looking back at it now, I think we were quite spoilt getting such a high-quality game as GT5P so early in PS3's life cycle that took advantage of the hardware. I think traction control operates at a much higher tick rate in GT5P than the PS4 GT titles too. What is frustrating this generation is we finally got sufficiently good hardware but only approaching when PS6 chips might be finalised for production, we might get more games taking advantage of the hardware beyond PS4 limitations. Only PS hardware that fared worse regarding GT was Vita as that just got the PSP version of GT only.

I hope they improve physics a lot for the next title as I think previous games like GT5P and GT5, it was easier to feel the limit on traction. One of the reasons why I think GT Sophy is so fast is due to the room to improve on multiple throttle inputs as the physics are kind of sketchy on power giving an uneasy feeling, at least for me. Not sure how others find it?

Interestingly, when I was new to racing games with a FFB steering wheel back in 2011, I mentioned about finding F1 2010 more natural with medium traction control and not having confidence driving on the limit. Many years later, Codemasters got feedback from F1 drivers saying pretty much the same (I think it was Lando Norris who said medium traction control feels more realistic):

Medium allows for me to be more natural with throttle input rather than having to hold my feet back a bit. It is more consistent and easier for me, but I can still drive without it.

Edit:

Just saw you added a lot to your original post. I think the above still covers most of it. I do drive with manual, I did so even using the X2010 in GT5. F1 2010 doesn't have very good on the edge physics so you can't really feel what the car is doing on the limit but just hope it is not going to lose rear grip. That is what I find anyway when trying to drive on the limit. You know by past experience at what point the car just loses all the grip so you try and just drive it so it just does not spin out.

When I fortunately got opportunities to push cars in real life thanks to Darren Cox, I was hoping it will be nothing like the games and be like how I think it should be based on onboards and thankfully it was. Cars are so well-sorted, it is kind of strange in real life where I have next to no experience, I was like pedal to the metal but I would be scared on some racing games to apply that much throttle.

However, I think in real life, cars bite harder when you go over the limit and that is next step GT needs to achieve with physics to stop it being labelled arcadey with current changes but overall, it looks like a positive step forward. I wish there was an opportunity to try out whatever their next project is going to be early to see what their real level is at currently regarding all aspects of the game, maybe I need to move to Japan. :D

They just need to give up with Gr.1 and Gr.2 in general, they don't make any sense considering how different the cars are. LMDh/Hypercar should really be in Gr.2 given they're around that pace but then they throw extra downforce on them for whatever reason. The TS020 has extra downforce and power to make it more competitive but then they nerf the F1 GTR back to being nearly Gr.3. They also had to completely nuke the LMP1 hybrids and make those unrealistic to make them fit the category. They either need a new class structure or sub classes, or they need to add more stuff to the online BoP where it gets specific downforce levels or hybrid settings to make it work. I never race online so I'd rather have the cars as they're supposed to be.
Yeah they really should have expanded the classes on the game's release, especially with how much of a mess they were back in Sport. I haven't played Automobilista 2, but from what I can see, something like what that game has would work, the different GT1s and LMP1s are separated.

Unpopular opinion, but I have and always will just take the physics as they are.

To me, it's like how high Super Mario can jump, or how fast my bullets fly in Cuphead*. Whatever the makers of the game decide to implement defines the challenge for me, the player, to try to overcome.

*Slightly flimsy analogy perhaps, because Nintendo and Studio MDHR don't randomly change those parameters with updates. But between games? Absolutely.

I am having the time of my life in X and youtube reading pro simracers (some of them called out or proven to be cheaters) calling pro drivers IRL to be wrong and/or paid by PD 🤣🤣🤣 this is unreal
What is weird is that LMU/ACC etc. Have a totally different feeling. Even with the FFB. GT7 is waaaaay behind those. So I can understand why they are suspicious.

On top of that, GT7 is not meant to be a real sim but always been simcade.

One more point is on the fact that understeer, in real life, does not do what the game does now. In real life, when you turn your wheels and accelerate, the car wheel just go straight forward. Since the update, in game, the car will continue to turn. Of course, you will still miss the turn. But the car will rotate.

Last point, to me, I was never able to race cars on TCS 0 (some GT3 on some tracks were okay though). Now, I am able to do it with every single cars.

But hey... It seems like they had to try something, even if no one was complaining about the previous physics. That means, to me, that something potentially big is going on. 😏🤣

Also, pro drivers may feel something very different than sim racers !

Great eve' guys !

My point is not only in the physics aspect (there will always be a mix of personal feeling and math calculations on that regard, so is at least 50% subjective) but on people with a not good reputation for cheating or taking advantange of bugs now playing the ethical police with the opinion of pro drivers with zero proofs.

After investing my time on wheel I’m starting to get the hang of it and it does feel good at times or with certain cars and track combos. But it still needs a few or several adjustments or tweaks. The braking distances with race cars and slicks is too short now. Traction out of corners is solid good. It’s a step in the right direction for sure this new physics has potential just needs fine tuning and for controller uses they need to adjust the steering feels like a dead zone or some background assists are kicking in too much too soon. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

As for my CSL Elite I just have to be more patient than before and don’t rush to find lap time, smooth and consistent really helps. Catching a slide and throttle play is definitely more satisfying. Especially if you pull it off which is much more likely now.

IMO GT can do a whole lot better if they really want to. I feel they have to seriously thread the needle for casual players and try to accommodate both casual drivers and more serious drivers. Can’t be easy as they have to go in both directions just how much is the question. Feel like they have gone more towards the casuals just a bit.

The steering angle hasn't changed. You reach peak grip at the same angle. The issue is you can now steer more than this and induce tyre scrubbing which gives you more turn in through the corner, which to my mind doesn't make sense, how can the car turn in more when the fronts are letting go of the road? Pre update you'd just induce understeer and heat the front tyres up by doing that.
Not tested this driving style online but during an offline endurance race, steering this much wears the front tyres out faster and ultimately made my laptimes slower between stints.
Whether that matters during a typical daily race C is another thing.

I am not sure if already have english subtitles enabled, but in short he is saying "Yes cars behave as they have to, the driver is correct about the feelings the car is providing but physics are wrong because in LMU..." 🤣🤣 to be fair he is trying to provide context about his statements but still a funny situation

Nailed it. Games will never be realism, its all about who and how can perform best within the given framework. Adapt and overcome..

For that reason Im amused when mediocre players call it "too easy" and yet they are just as far from the top players as before. Stop complaining about the change and go try narrow down that gap.

This is true. It's what makes the best video game drivers feel like aliens. They perceive it like the matrix. The way they navigate the gameplay.

It's also one of the reasons I don't like playing online lol Back when Sport came out I was unemployed, I spent months in the deep end. It was fun when the various Nations or whatever events were every day I think. And I think they did a couple Top 24 races. On some occasions I was in those lobbies with Fraga, Snow, hellzfirejp, etc. There was a certain time bracket that people would typically stick to. I think hellz and I had a good race at some point, but in general those dudes were way ahead of us. Even within the best lobby. Its the difference between the Top 5 and 1%.

Anyway, yea they suck the fun out of it for a non-competitive person like myself lol I just wanna have fun. I'm sure they are nice people but it can feel unfair. Like they are cheating. But they are just exploiting any weakness in the game they can to give them an advantage over their competitors. It's what makes them the best.

I tell myself I retired from Sport mode. Once I fell off that horse, got bored of the game after months of non-stop play, then getting back into an Online race was depressing. Now I just enjoy solo play. Casually collecting cars, building replicas, doing the occasional race, and experimenting with the tuning settings.

So yea, that was kind of a random tangent.

You might enjoy online again if you make an alt account and start from the bottom

It might be interesting for a minute. Then again the lower tiers are their own frustration. Also it feels like I barely have any free time. Sometimes hard to even find motivation to play anything at all. And when I do, I'm kinda playing whatever I feel in the moment. GT7, and all the entries before it, really are a solo experience for me. I really enjoy it. Not to mention Sophy makes for a great offline competitor. Could be a little faster, or ideally an adjustable scale, and some tweaks for weird behavior.

I should've said in my previous post that I imagine many of the competitive online players get frustrated with an update like this because it shakes up the game. To some people that's great; others who maybe feel like they've practiced and made their way to the towards the top and start to feel somewhat comfortable and confident, might take it as having to start all over. Some will view it as a new challenge, learning the weird quirks and intricacies of the new handling model and how to exploit them 🤷‍♂️
