This game needs at least a 2 player CO-op campain. Sounds like the multiplayer is just like what Saints Row did which was terrible. From what I have heard Saints Row 2 will have full 2 player co-op campaign like Crackdown had.
I am sure GTA4 wont let us down. I will still be buying it but not having full 2 player co-op campaign is disappointing. The rest looks really good. Hopefully the "14. free roam" mode is as fun as I am picturing it. Hopefully that free roam will include all the pedestrians on the street and all the cars just like if you were in the campaign. That would be very fun.

What do you mean? Cops n Crooks is co-op, team games are co-op, just against other human players which makes it that much better. Also look at Hangman's NOOSE, a co-op game.

I think he means playing the single player portion of the game with two people. I don't get how that could work at all because it is focused around one person's story. If you consider what the majority of missions have been in other GTAs (errands come to mind), having a second player would be pointless.

Why would you even remotely think GTA IV's Multiplayer will be like the Saints Row just because both games share a common game mode? We're talking about Rockstar, not the obviously wanna-be GTA clone.

Release in Australia anyone know?

I thought it was a world wide release on the 29th April.

I just had a quick read up on the free roam multiplayer. It seems that you can adjust the level of pedestrian & vehicle traffic before a game starts. Having 16 people in a free roam is going to be amazing. I hope that each player isn't displayed on the map and doesn't have any identifying arrows near them. By the way, this is what I have read from certain forums and I don't know is any of this has been confirmed as yet.

I also pre-ordered GTA4 today at Gamestation. They were offering 500 free LIVE gamer points plus 4 exclusive photocards. Gamestation, like everyone else will be opening at 12.00am to release the game, which is handy as I'm working till late on the Monday so I'll have this ready for the Tuesday morning.

All special edition copies are sold out in my area :(
Plus I'm not sure if I can afford it straight away yet, so we'll see when I get it.

Really? I was going to get a special edition one, I didn't think pre-orders could be sold out. Oh well I don't really care all that much I will just get a regular one then.

Update:

Final trailer arriving 27.03.08. "Good lord what are you doing" aka "Everyone's a rat".

Two new radio stations added, "K109 The studio" & WKTT Talk Radio". 5 new screenshots also available. Four new wallpapers also added.

Link.

I guess unlike another game *cough* HALO3 *cough*, limited edition really means limited edition. Apparently there are still Halo 3 Legendary Editions to be found, and at under $100 according to some of my friends.

Welcome to Liberty City Steam comes out of the ground, the people are rude and it costs a fortune

LMAO

Is that the quote when first entering the website? They change it once in a while, some of them are really funny.

Yeah it changes all the time..

The best new things to see on the website are the recruitment message for the LCPD, The Liberty City history quiz and the piss take of the Prius...

LOL, there is some great stuff on the GTAIV site. I took the LoveMeet.net personality quiz, it turns out I'm a Douchebag  Too bad everything takes some 10-20mins to load for me. Let's hear about your funny experiences on the site.
(I seen the LCPD recruitment too, apparently old ladies are terrorists )

I was avoiding all the hype and trying not to get excited in case the date got bumped again. But with all this new information, especially 100 hour campaign and 16 multiplayer free roam, I am just getting extremely excited!! I was only planning on using a couple paid vacation days for this game but now I think I might take most of the week especially since its my birthday anyway.:sly:

The music this time 'round doesn't seem to be as strong...oh well, it seems twice as original-- as fresh as GTA3 perhaps, even. I'm really waiting for this to come out for PC, but if trends indicate anything that probably won't be for another year. . .

Not sure how credible this is but here this is supposed to be the GTA4 map for the PS3 version. People on the xbox.com forums have been posting about it.
Holy crap!!! For a game that has so much content, the map is way way bigger than I expected it to be. Is the game going to be multiple disks or something? I just cant picture everything they are talking about all being on one disk.
PICS MOVED TO POST #839

I'm pretty sure it'll be on one disk. There are other games with large maps like Oblivion and I think they only came on one disk. From the previews I have read, this game is going to incredible. The new game engine looks brilliant, 16 player free roam multiplayer with pedestrians is going to be amazing.

I think that map CM69 posted above is real, it looks too good to be fake although I guess we'll see in a few days. I might have to stop visiting GTA forums so that I don't see any spoilers closer to the time. I like the thought of getting the name and not knowing what to expect.

This might seriously be THE most excited I have ever been for a game. It is just loaded with so much content thats its impossible to comprehend. 100 hour single player with 16 player free roam online along with pedestrians and vehicles. It will be like a dream come true! :dopey:

EDIT:!!!!!
I just called my local gamestop and it looks like there is a very high possibility they could be releasing this at midnight monday the 28th!!! If they dont then they said they would sell it on the 29th Tuesday for sure

The link you posted above has become dead for some reason. I have pre-ordered at Gamestation and they said it would be a midnight release. Handy for me as I'm working late that day so I can pick it up on the way home.

Ok lucky for me I saved the pics from that link to my desktop. lol Some of them are very big and legible too so after lunch I will post the pics using imageshack or my own site.

The new trailer should be out tonight, probably 10.00pm GMT.

The great news just keeps pouring out today. Looks like GTA4 has been paying attention to Halo 3 because they are going to use one of Halo 3s greatest features. The stat tracking. Not quite as deep as Halo 3 but it will still be a nice feature.

http://2opgaming.com/2008/03/27/gta-iv-community-features-and-site-announced/

* LCPD Police Blotter — A virtual map and tracker of single-player criminal activity logged in Liberty City from the aggregated data of millions of connected players - showing the most dangerous areas of town, most commonly used weapons and more.

* The Story Gang — This special single-player leaderboard recognizes players who complete Niko Bellic’s main story arc of Grand Theft Auto IV - The leaderboard ranks players according to the total amount of playing time it’s taken to complete the story, as well as a historical rank by who has completed it first. Members of this club will receive special online widgets and merit badges marking all of their in-game accomplishments.

* The 100% Club — Watch to see who will be the first to complete 100% of the game. The first ten people to be identified on the Social Club as reaching 100% will be sent an ultra-rare commemorative ‘key to the city’ to mark their accomplishment. In the future, the 100% Club will then carry a historical leaderboard showing rankings of who has completed 100% of a game in the shortest span of playing hours.

* The Hall of Fame — This area will dynamically recognize those singularly elite players who have reached the top of the hill on various statistical leaderboards, and will also contain a personal awards display of special in-game landmarks and successes in Social Club competitions.

* The Liberty City Marathon — A ranking of special physical milestones achieved in the game - from the amount of miles walked, driven, or swam - to the number of bullets fired and stunt-jumps jumped. There will be additional special marathon-based competitions in the future from this area as well.

The Rockstar Social Club doesn’t stop there. With special competitions, leaderboards and challenges rolling out regularly in the weeks and months following the game’s release, this is just the beginning of an on-going Liberty City experience and is a small taste of what’s to come from Rockstar Games for GTAIV and beyond…

If that's true, I'm impressed. The only problem is I hope it's done by country as Australia have a major head start on the game completion record.
