Curiousity, but do you guys think anything will be cut out? Anything introduced? Feelings on the location?

I'm just curious to see what a normal forum's view and feelings are from what we've seen so far. Most forums talking about the game are too childish to get a real opinion on what we've seen so far as it would most be something along the lines, "Itz Aw3sOm3!" or "Itz GH3y!"....

I guess that's where FIFA came in..
Awesome dude! FIFA rocks :p [/off topic]

From what I've seen / heard from the trailer, my guess is that there's definitely going to be less violence in the game. I don't know why I get that feeling though; it's just the whole "things will be different" phrase at the bottom of the page that gets me thinking.
Is it going to be a difference for the better? (meaning more violence or profanity for me :p) or will they finally settle down a little bit in regards of the game's violent nature?
The reason why I think GTA will take a dramatic turn around, is because: If they are to make the game better in regards of gameplay, how much better can it get? Most of us have agreed that GTA: SA was excellent in gameplay, but rubbish on the missions and game plot; Having said that, I really don't expect to see much improvement on GTA: IV, except for the graphics of course.

But there's one hope though, and is the possibility that Rockstar meant "things will be different" than GTA: SA, not from the whole GTA series, because like everyone said before, with GTA :SA, GTA was not the same and it felt like it didn't belong in the series...

I really, REALLY hope that I'm wrong.

Why all the hate for San Andreas?

I think it's an utterly fantastic game. Sure it has it's issues, any game with as much scope as it did won't get everything right. My main complaints about San Andreas were to do with an awkward plot that didn't flow well and a whole bunch of "features" that were just annoying. Like having to eat to stay alive and that stupid annoying way of changing clothes where you have to wait stupid amounts of time just to see what a particular hat or shirt looked like on CJ. I just picked an outfit and stuck with it. They also gave you about 30 save points around the map and without a really good one.

But I can't say I didn't love the game overall because I knocked up well over 200 hours of gameplay in it. They did so many things RIGHT in the game, that most of my complaints are just irritating little bugs.

Huh? You've concluded on the level of violence in the game from a 1 minute teaster trailer that doesn't even show any action footage?

Tell me where and when did I say, "and this is my final conclusion of the game"?

IT'S JUST A THOUGHT, A FEELING, A VAGUE PREDICTION, A GUESS

But anyhow, let me expand a little bit on this feeling that I had; On the trailer, you hear the guy saying "Perhaps here, things will be different....." after he said "I've killed people, I've smuggled people", so unless we're not thinking logically, that meant more "I'm not gonna kill as many people" than "there will be more killing and smuggling than before", right?
But maybe Rockstar games did this to deceive our minds and then surprise us with what we thought was not gonna happen.

So that's that.

Secondly, out of all the GTA trailers that I've seen, this is the only one that doesn't show any violence at all, maybe he'll be another type of criminal, I really don't know, but to me, this looks like it's going to be a different game than all the previous GTAs. (in regards of violence that is)

I know that I can't make up a final conclusion from the first 1 minute trailer of the game. It would be idiotic. But from what I've seen/heard so far, there' just anything in there to make me think, that it will be like the others. That, plus the two points explained above, makes up this temporary guess of mine at this precise moment.

Generally in all the GTA games the main character starts out with a clean slate, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

In GTA III Claude Speed escaped from prison and his file was deleted out of the database, he never looked like going straight, but he did have a clean slate.

In Vice City Tommy was straight out of jail and was supposed to be just doing some drug trafficking, but things turned bad and he had no choice.

In San Andreas Carl was coming to bury his mum, but he got picked up by the corrupt cops and was basically forced into crime again.

So I’d hazard a guess and say the new character is coming to Liberty for a new start, but things will go bad and he’ll have to fix it … by killing people. :D

I would say thats a pretty safe bet. Maybe he wants things to be different, so R* could kill two birds with one stone with the phrase "things will be different" on one hand you have him trying to get a fresh start, and on the other hand you have all the new features R* could implement into the game.

when I saw the abbreviated version of the thread tittle I thought it was going to read "punish or dismember Jack Thompson" :dopey:

I really really don't like that man

It was just the word "definitely" that set me off:

my guess is that there's definitely going to be less violence in the game [my emphasis]
You just sounded pretty convinced about the level of violence in the game by using the word "definitely". Apologies if I misunderstood you.

Nah, my interpretation is totally different. I think the Russian dude is trying to escape his gangster life in Russia (assuming he's Russian) and he's come to the USA trying to escape his gangster life, but things aren't different in Liberty City and he gets caught up in his old gangster ways of doing gangster stuff. I bet the plot revolves around the central character arriving in America to live a new life but things don't work out the way he wants and he has to do gangster stuff in an attempt to finally rid himself of his gangster ways. But that's just my guess. I don't think much can be read about the plot and characters yet based on just this teaser trailer.

edit: Here's a prediction - this game is totally set in Liberty City. The PS3/Xbox360 sequel is set in a new improved Vice City and there's a third game set in San Andreas that's a PS3 exclusive because the Xbox DVD discs can't handle a next gen game the size of San Andreas. Just a wild guess, but I'm posting it here in case I'm right and can quote this in a few years to prove myself if I'm right!

I really don't agree with the whole repeating a map thing unless they are really going to change the layouts and add considerably.

Otherwise it just seems a lazy and unimaginative way of creating more games.

Sounds great! Hopefully, that'll mean we'll get some different shots from Game Informer.

 This is why all the GTA forums are full up with ridiculous speculation. Everyone wants to be remembered for saying something. Those guys that are making the map based on the teaser are doing some interesting work though.

Only a couple of weeks until the Game Informer release, hopefully will have more concreted things to speculate on then.

Nice, is anyone gonna do scans from both magazine articles?

It's really obvious that Rockstar has changed Liberty City alot, and with the capabilities of the PS3, 360, Wii, and PC's, it won't be a problem adding on/revitializing LC.

As far as everyone knows the Wii isn't powerfull enough so they won't be getting a version of the game

Wii is most likely getting the game, but as is expected, they'll get a toned down version, possibly on the old PS2 engine, so it will fit. But it does look as if they've worked hard enough to get GTA IV.

It's a bit of a stab, but it also looks as if they're hiring lesser known artists and composers to create music for the game. There's been a couple of leaks about the music so far, as mentioned here and here.

Either way I'm looking forward to that OPM and the even earlier GTA IV exclusive interview with Game Informer..

well I do hope that we will still get liscenced music on the radio stations, I was never a big fan of the non-liscenced music they used in some games.

One thing I'm interested in is how they're going to use the processing punch of the new consoles to deal with traffic and pedestrians. Are we going to have proper rush hour traffic with wall-to-wall traffic? Crowded streets during the days?

In previous games, the streets were always nearly empty with just a few cars and a few pedestrians. In Dead Rising, it was really cool to see areas packed with zombies, dozens or hundreds of them at once.

Could you imagine a 'Hitman blood money mardi gras' style crowds, that would be awesome in some areas of busy Liberty city *cough* New York *cough*

My gut feeling is it will be much like the previous GTA's , fairly sparse most the time.

Most of the time, you could see the streets empty when you were driving in a car at a considerable speed. If you stopped and got out, it would only be a matter of 1 minute or 2 before you saw more people walking by.

Sadly, I don't think we'll see thicker crowds on rush hour, because that would make it too easy for you to kill 20 people at once. And that would gain you at least 3 stars. I do, however, want more people / cars on the streets though, because sometimes the game become a tad boring without them. :(

Well put it this way, I was playing LCS today and in the Torrington TT race I was taking full racing lines with the PCJ across 4 lanes. In New York City there is no way that should be possible. Ever.

Traffic jams and peak hour traffic would be awesome, but could get extreme. I at least want more traffic than there is in current GTA games. It’s always far too quiet.

Well the May edition of game informer is already leaking out to a few people, some rough scans have been posted so far but some good ones are sure to follow soon. Biggest bit of info so far is the protagonists name is Niko Bellic.

Hmm, i'm a bit disappointed with the info released. What shown here is really that interesting??

* The protagonist's name is Niko Bellic, which we believe is Croatian or Serbian.
* The Statue of Liberty is now known as the Statue of Happiness, and DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is known as BOABO (Beneath the Offramp of the Algoquin Bridge Overpass).
* In Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar have recreated 4 of the 5 boroughs in New York, as well as part of New Jersey.
* The map is smaller than San Andreas, but a hell of a lot more detailed. No countryside or desert.
* Broker is the GTA IV equivalent of Brooklyn, Manhattan is called Algonquin, Queens is now Dukes, the Bronx is Bohan, and New Jersey is Alderney.
* Pedestrians are more realistic in GTAIV - they sit on benches, smoke cigarettes, read books and carry out various other activities.
* The screenshots in the preview are not representative of the final quality of graphics. The game will only look better as the release gets closer.
* Niko was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin Roman, who claimed to have two women, fast cars, lots of money etc, infact he was lying. He lied to Niko in order to hide his own failures. Roman is the only person you know in Liberty City at the beginning of the game, and he becomes one of your major connections.
* Multiplayer is set to be announced...
* You can use a cellphone to call your contacts.
* Apparently there are no planes because there is only one city in the game.
* You have a lot of choice over what you want to do. You still have to take orders from people during missions, but you can also choose how you want to spend your time, e.g "I want to hang out with him, or her... I want to go see this guy 'cause he always has something to do..."
* The story unfolds in a number of different ways. R* is giving people more freedom, more choice and more sense of control over their destiny - the structure of the storyline is quite different to previous games.
* The demo which Game Informer played was for the Xbox 360 version of the game.

So the trailer wasn't very good and this info isn't interesting.. I know there's a lot they aren't say but so far this trickle of info just isn't good enough for me. I thought that was supposed to be 10 pages?
