OK got it last night....just 90 copys of the PS3 version and 170 of the 360 version in my local asda and a HUGE cue! So anyway, put 2 hours in last night on single player and halfan hour on multiplayer free run. Single player is as reported above much more realistic with a very well thought out driving system. The city is huge and extremely detailed. The story is exceptionaly well crafted and realy draws you into this world of Liberty city.Got a gun and can confirm the aiming system works well, not got to the bit where you use cover! also you can pick up bricks and the like and target and throw them as well! Hand to hand combat is now quite detailed as well (I'm trying not to give too much away LOL) Oh yeah, got a girlfriend and went on a date bowling, which is actualy very well done! The online I just had a little blast on, I did spot the friend invite system......"invite upto 7 friends to compete against other teams online........now thats not everything but it dose mean there is friend invites! As for the online gameplay! WOW no lag and although I was just seeing how it worked I ended up in a huge police shootout with a few other players.....those rocket launchers are fun!

So far, I'm honestly blown away. I played two hours last night when I got back from a midnight launch. I live in a small town and there was a queue of about 40 people when I got there. Luckily they were quite efficent and I was out in fifteen minutes.

I did the first three missions last night and the dialogue in cut scenes is well put together. I found myelf chuckling at some of the things the characters came out with. The sound detail is brilliant through my Technics headphones (I had to listen through that cos the missus was in bed). I'm going to stick it on the surround sound today and see the difference.

The rage engine is immense, hitting pedestrians has never been so satisfying.

 I wouldn't be surprised... I'm not honestly expecting mine today - it was dispatched yesterday, but I reckon I'll have it by tomorrow at the earliest. Still, I don't have time to play it today or tomorrow anyway, but this weekend I might have to have a GTA:IV weekender!

Three postmen fired for stealing copies of GTA IV

Source: Computer and Video Games

A source within UPS has revealed that three employees have been fired for stealing copies of GTA IV.

"They're not selling them, these people are stealing one copy," a worker told website Arts Technica. "We had tips from people inside, and some of them were discovered at intermediate hubs... it's easy to spot: flaps torn, some boxes are re-taped."

The employee said that the situation wasn't normal for big-name game releases, but GTA IV was enticing enough for many workers to risk losing their job.

"It's kind of funny, isn't it?" he added. "It's a game about theft, and people are stealing it. And I get to terminate them."

More disciplinary hearings are apparently scheduled for today.

It's trivial I know but a cool little detail I jus came across, if you rip a burnout for long enough you can pop the tyres.....:D...it appeals to the hoon in me

I walked into the games shop today, not knowing what to expect.

"Do you have any copies of GTA4 for Xbox in stock or are they all preordered or sold out?"

"Sorry, all booked out and any unbooked copies were sold out immediately. Every store in town is the same. You're not going to find a copy in town today. You'll have to wait until the next delivery. Probably next week... oh wait, here's a spare copy sitting in front of me. You can have it. "

HAHAHA!

...

Still waiting for mine though. Shame that it'll probably appear just before college!

Im going to wait till all this hype cools down then get my copy, as ive got uni work at the moment I dont really have time to play much anyway but I am really looking forward to getting it..

lol got my special edition. God this game is awesome. Already one of my classic moments on the game:

Exited my car while it was still moving and went head over heels into the front of a Huntley with blood splatter on the bumper.

I also had a neat little episode of a near-death experience. Driving at high speed around a long corner, misjudged it a little bit… and my car flew over the curb, up and over a rather large wall/cliff. While the car was leaping through the air, I ran head-on into the side of a building. Niko made short journey through the windshild, face first into the brick wall… where he then fell another 10 meters, clipped the roof a second building from the level below(sending him into a violent spin), where he then landed onto the solid tarmac below. I almost died laughing… great fun to watch! 👍

I has it! Installing onto hard drive feels like a lifetime... this better live up to the hype you guise!

Yea I too did the midnight launch and there was probably around 200 people there. I was one of the first though, and they made everyone go in before 12 and pay for their copy, then go wait in line until twelve. That made it extremely fast once twelve came, so i was out of there by about 12 05. They opened a few minutes early.

What are your guys' favorite cars so far?? I always have and still love the Blista Compact. I got a little japanese car but I cant remember the name of it, i think it was a tofu or something like that. Quick little car.

Well, I have GTAIV in both 360 and PS3 flavours. My preferred choice? The 360 version.
The problem with the PS3 game is that it has more jaggies and an unpleasant blur, like vaseline on a camera lens. The 360 game has some jaggies but nowhere near as bad as the PS3 game and the picture is much sharper.
The PS3 has better audio, with 7.1 support but in terms of visuals the 360 wins. Any reviewer who said the PS3 game was the visually better are either blind, stupid or Sony fans.
Just so that people know my PS3 is connected to my Sony KDL46W3000 LCD by 1.3 HDMI via my Onkyo TX-SR605 and my 360 Elite is connected by HDMI through the Onkyo too.

Interesting to hear a real comparison from someone who has both versions 👍... spare a thought for those of us with neither.... (yet :sly: )

Its odd that reviewers keep saying the PS3 version looks better... and they say blur is not an issue at all, look at what IGN said..

IGN
For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often. The slight visual edge goes to PS3, but the 360 is no slouch. Either version will do you proud.

Until I see some side by side videos I will reserve my judgment..

The Xbox version definitely has object and texture popup issues, just like the old PS2 GTA games. I've noticed a few occasions where I've been right beside an blurry building and then the high-res textures just suddenly pop into place.

Meh, I was expecting this since it always happend on the PS2. How they made GTA IV look as good as it is beats me, so I think I can put up with a bit of those issues. 👍

And yeah, odd slackbladder's saying there's more jaggies on the PS3 version... but surely if it's installed on the HDD the pop-up and texture distance will be improved?

Edit: This is soooo unfair. There's 13 people on my friends list playing GTA at the moment. :(

My dad may pick it up after work, but I have homework to do, and if he comes home with it and I'm not done, it's gonna suck.

I don't ge it. How can IGN say that? I have both which I can flick between in a few seconds and I know the 360 version has better AA. The PS3 has better colour though that can be altered in the menu. It's like IGN got them mixed up.
And another thing on the PS3 version case it says HD 720p, 1080i, 1080p. Yet to get it to display @1080p I have to disable 720p in the XMB Display options. But the MGO beta can be displayed @1080p as can CoD4 without changing the XMB Display options. Odd.
Anyway until people see for themselves I'm sure many won't believe me. But I know to distrust reviewers now.

No graphic isses on mine, Looks sublime, no pop up or pop in jaggies are....well I haven't noticed any to be honest? I have noticed the draw distance (between blury and sharp) is slightly lower on the multiplayer side of things but thats to be expected and was reported in the reviews. As for IGN being PS3 biased.....nah quite the oposite, they can be quite ruthless towards the darkside LOL I doubt they would have published the graphic issues between the 2 versions if they couldn't substantuate them as the 360 fanboy backlash would be huge!
