1080p is the better resolution so there might be less jaggies on a Full HD display plus you have more insight view. 1080i pretty much sucks IMO.

10801 might suck but for a TV with 1080P I would have had to pay nearly twice the price I paid for my TV. I am waiting for the 1080P TVS to reduce in price enough so I can buy one.

One thing that I might add to this topic, is that most of us aren't very concerned about what the graphics will look like. GT4 visuals are ok for me, braking, ABS switch (which it has on 8th update), engine sounds, damn poor AI, those are the things that if fixed, will get me off the clock on the game.

There is no strong AA on GT5:P, and probably that is because the PS3 can't handle it.. but who cares? :dopey:

I really would like to know how GT5P looks on a normal TV. Does anyone actually play on a normal TV? I wonder if it still looks beautiful even if the resolution is 480I i think?

Can anyone clear this for me please? Its appreciated!

Kind regards,
doblocruiser

Almost ashamed to say but I play on a 37cm mono speaker Vestel TV...:nervous:..my gt5p bundle is arriving friday but at least i have th wheel DFP :)

PS3 comes without a HDMI cable.......that should tell you the majority of people don't have HDTVs I would however plumb the PS3 into a stereo at the least, easily done and it's a big improvement for very little effort.

It's funny how most of us forget that we need to buy an HDMI cable after buying a "400 dollar" PS3 .. oh and... one more thing right??... ummm, what is it... Oh yeah.. A BIG A$$ED 1080p TV, to play it right.. lol entertainment doesnt come cheap, does it? :p

its a 15 dollar cable...
But I am not saying Computer with screen and keyboard.. only the PC box..
Screens for Computers are expensive as well.. PS3 is a bargain.

I play with a 22inch (55cm) CRT TV with PAL resolution at 576i. I need another few months to save enough money for a larger fullHD LCD TV, but I still bought me PS3 just for GT5P last xmas. you don't experience the sheer attention to detail (cockpit view, car modelling), but the HDR lighting effects STILL DO kick in can I just tell you.

I use my PS3 with my PC-monitor, and it works perfectly. Full 1080p at a very small cost compared to "proper" TV's. Of course, the monitor is "only" 24", but I only sit a couple of feet away from it. To be precise, I have BenQ G2400W and use a HDMI-connection between the PS3 and monitor.

I'm sorry, but you really got what you paid for. That LCD you have is a TN panel which means cheap colors compared S-IPS panels you find in more expensive Full HD displays. They cost more, but they are worth it, IMO totally! TNs are good for gaming because they have quicker response times and are more affordable, but they lack in color depth. and BTW S-IPS panels have better color reproduction than those old CRT displays.

Maybe, I dunno, but they lack dynamic range and smoothness

deep, deep blacks, and super brightness (dynamic mode) is awesome on my G520 trinitron monitor

I ain't going to flat panel monitors for a good while, they don't come close just yet

LCD monitors are much better IMO because of the sharpness they provide at their native resolution. A TN panel isn't bad at all, the modern ones are excellent, but when you see the vibrant colors and amazing view angles of a S-IPS panel you'll notice the difference. No wonder they are so expensive actually, they are the best.

Sony CRT Trinitron monitors are vibrant and rich in colour too - they were the high end CRT mega buck monitors of the day, I bought it for peanuts after LCD came :)

probbaly even more expensive new than the high end LCD monitors these days...
It's almost a crime how little they go for now!

What about playing the game on a rear-projection DLP display? Would that produce more jaggies/line crawl than an LCD display? Does it matter? I'm also interested to know if the US release improves the jaggies/line crawl because its kind of distracting when watching the replays or the Home page in the Jpn version. I have a 1080P 52" Mitsubishi DLP that looks pretty damn good while viewing BD, upconverted DVDs, HD thru cable, used as a PC display, etc. all thru HDMI. Its just those damn white lines all over the body cut lines on GT5P that bother me, even when the car is not even moving. Anyone that played the Jpn and now the PAL/US on the same display that could confirm if there's any difference?

I got an ASUS 22" LCD. I want to put it on the table I hve my DFP on, but I'm scared I'll flip the screen straight off the table...:S

so now this is a what tv do you have thread?
I play on a polaroid 32" 1080p screen as close to my g25 as it can get.

Not unless you turn it into one now! I only added it as it might help answering my question of DLP vs LCD. Is the TV model all you got out of my post? :)

I still would like to knows if its my TV or what, oh well in a few weeks I'll find out when I get the US version.

1080i pretty much sucks IMO.

LOL, tell that to my Panasonic PT47WX42, an older 1080i rear-projector. I know what you are saying though, typically 1080p is better for gaming with all the moving images. The 1080i really shines when watching things like HD nature shows, etc., lots of still shots and detail.

There is a pretty detailed discussion regarding the differences between 1080i and 1080p in regards to GT5P here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=99225

I didn't read this anywhere else, but when I race with the Ford GT '06 on Daytona in Event A-6 there moves a shadow along the stands as I drive along. At first I thought that the clouds were actually moving, but than it happens at all points along the track, so also against any wind direction. I didn't check this yet with any other track or car.

Hang on am I reading this right? Are you saying the clouds cast shadows on the track and they move with the wind direction?

No, that's what it looked liked at first (got me all excited), but the shadow is only on the stands and moves with the same speed as the car. So no darker spots (I refuse to call it shadow any longer) on the track or infield. Looks more like a bug than intended.

Edit> I re-raced the same race and didn't see it anymore. I got the feeling that it has do with the fences along the track and through some glitch not only the area shielded by the fences got a bit darker, but the entire stand visible above the fences.
