GT3 itself was around 3Gb, so i highly doubt GT4 will use only 3.5Gb which so many more cars and tracks and features....
and the plain idea of having 5.5Gb of protection amazes me :scared: .....

either that guy was complete idiot or making sacrasm (i think it's the first one...)

Speed Drifter
That was a good story but you have no idea what are you talking about..
the second layer of GT4 dvd is for copy-protection only, the game data itself is on the first layer and is about 3.5 GB in size

The above information is incorrect.

GT4 makes use of a dual-layer DVD b/c the game itself is over 9 GB. Please do not say that the game is 3.5GB or any other size unless you are absolutely sure of your information, just don't want more rumors/misinformation to be floating around. I know that people will want proof of GT4 really being as large as 9GB, so I have provided some in the following paragraphs. The following excerpt is from an IGN article from Nov. 9, the day Gran Turismo went Gold.

"At the party, Polyphony president Kazunori Yamauchi gave out final stats for the game, including some staggering numbers. Some of these were announced before, but some of them weren't, so listen up! First, GT4 really is huge. The game makes use of a dual layered DVD, totaling, Yamauchi revealed, over nine gigabytes of data."

Here's the link to the actual article as well.
IGN Article

As the article clearly states, Kazunori Yamauchi himself said that the game totals over 9 GB of data. If he was speaking about the capacity of the disc, he would have said so, but he didn't. I would greatly appreciate it if everyone would cease to post false information while claiming it to be fact. Please, please make this forum less cluttered with misinformation by only posting what you know to be true in cases such as this. Thanks.

*EDIT: Gabkicks is right, there is no need for name calling. Took off my grumpy pants and made it a nicer, more civil post. :)

plz guys, try and be a bit respectfull to eachother... keep it clean and above the waist. :)

It is somewhat amazing how fast some people, who apparently visit these forums quite regularly, seem to forget what was said only a few months ago....?

I mean, even I remember hearing that KY himself was quoted as saying how large GT4 was...and I don't come to these forums as regular as a lot of the other members do...

I thought everyone here was a "GT4" fanatic....if so, you'd think there would be more consistency with what is being said around here regarding everything concerning this game but it appears to be just the opposite! Go figure? :indiff:

9 GB of data is for the dual layer themselves... the game has been reported by owners that have seen the TOC to be under 6.5 gigs.

I hope you all realize that it would be quicker and safer to have the game ftp'd to SCEA from SCEJ or PD rather than have it shipped via fedex or whatever. I'm sure SCEA has a dual-layer burner, so why would you waste 2-3 days transit time shipping a hard copy instead of just sending it electronicly?

the original GT3 gold copy was taken via a private plane personally by a staff member, you can bet they'll do the same for GT4,

my friend just received the memo saying he doesnt need to work overtime on monday lol

he said his team have 16 ppl testing the game, our information is gonna be very useful for them and save them alot of time

I feel inclined to believe Hyde here, as he hasn't been one to throw false information out in the past. I also find that even though Monday is a public holiday here in the US, that not all areas actively honor it. For instance, my area up here in Michigan does not recognize it as a holiday that warrants 'time off' as mandatory, though most businesses and schools offer the option without penalty.

Just thought I'd put forth my information. FedEx/UPS might not be active that day, but that does not stop anybody working at SCEA from receiving it from SCEJ via personal transfer and transport at any given location. Perhaps that is another possibility.

i've just talked to my friend at SCEA about GT4, he said they just received a beta copy of GT4 in english, but incomplete cuz its on a Single Layer DVD instead of dual.

they are currently looking for bugs in the NA release and i've told them the following bugs/mistake i've found

1) NO Garage in arcade mode
- hopefully my friend can find out whats happened here and might have a chance to get it back in the NA release

2) Mini Cooper S have a 6 speed gear box not 5

3) Ford SVT Lightning is FR not 4WD

4)Mercedes Benz E55, SL500, SL55, SL65, SL600, SLR does not simulate as an Automatic transmission

if there are any more mistake and bugs, pls post here, so i'll forward it to my friend

cuz we might help change GT4

Why should i believe you at all?

I don't get why some of the people here do not believe Hyde. o_0

Me, I trust him 100% on this information. Therefore, I don't see the point of not believing him. I guess the topic mostly consists of non-belivers going: "OMG, I dont belive u! ROFLQNRFU!!!1eleventeen"

Trust is an easy thing to break.

I really don't see any reason why he would lie about it. I guess we'll all find out when GT4 is realesed in the US, and see if any of the things mentioned in this thread are corrected. *Shrugs*

Okay, I trudged through this whole thread....sheesh

I may not be a long standing member of the board, nor know Hyde from Hide, but here's something I've noticed along the way...

Some of you guys really need to chill out...really. If you'd take the time to logically think out what Hyde has posted ( even without proof ) it makes sense.

Of course, you'd have to have more insight to the way the world works than that of a 12 year old, which is how some of you have acted , IMHO.

Common sense would dictate that once SCEA gets ahold of the Beta US release, they need to make sure the game is complete for a US release. And there are going to be a few people working on it, not just one guy.

With all the bickering, I'm suprised Hyde didn't just think "to hell with them, I won't relay anything to my friend at all...let them live with the mistakes he and his co-workers miss"

Seriously...he comes here to tap the wealth of knowledge that is this board ( I have noticed this readily in my short time here..you guys know a lot about a lot! ), and gets lambasted as some n00b from the IGN boards spamming useless crap all over the place.

He may not spell everything out in the most thought out manner, but he's not the one working for SCEA, is he? But, he's been consistant in his posts.

I hope everyone here that's so jaded towards posts like this will think before they reply the next time. You've turned what could have been a very informative post into a crapfest.

Just to reiterate, here are my suggestions:

2 player garage races.

The ability to RE-equip stock wheels.

2 player full-screen replays, and make them SAVEABLE!

Garage races in LAN mode.

When the Delorean hits 88 MP/H there should be a little flame trail and the Delorean should disappear.

and as soon as the flames come...the graphix will go back to the way they were in GT2. And then if you hit 88mph again..you'll go back to GT4 graphix. Although you'll need to reload on Mr. Fusion.

To all those who don't trust Hyde, what do you stand to lose by believing him? He's not asking for money, or your kidney or even your first born son. :scared:

All he's asking for is for you to list a few bugs you've found in the JP version. Is that so bad? :indiff:

I may be kinda New too, but I believe Hyde I have no reason not too.

2 Player Garage battle OH GOD PLEASE I'm going to be on Lan with my friend the day this comes out for like a week (beating the game together), We're going to want to play with our cars not stock :)

Are you sure UPS isn't active on Monday? I'm expecting a package through UPS, and the site says that it'll be delivered on Monday the 17th. Not everyone has federal holidays off.

Personally, in regards to this thread, I see no reason not to believe Hyde. He's not spouting off the usual newbie "EBGames says....", he's just giving us a bit of information which, in the end, doesn't speculate about anything at all. I think too many people here have become so jaded and bitter towards rumor that anything even remotely hinting at a release, no matter when that release may be, is met with outright hostility.

yeah, thats all i am really worried about in the US version. It shouldnt be too hard to include that..

I would have nothing to complain about if they added/reused those features. Well, except for that online business, but we will have Xlink for that. Although, I doubt I will even use Xlink if they don't allow garage cars on LAN.

yeah.. they can release a MP add on later if they want to... i just want Memory card battles and the other stuff you mentioned.

Yeah, the 2p garage battles are going to be a real kick in the pants for a lot of players out here. For some of you it isn't a big deal because unfortunately, you don't know anyone that knows how to drive, but for those of us within walking/driving distance of someone who does, it's an invaluable gameplay element that will be sorely missed if it isn't included.

The fact that they enabled LAN over I Link is great. KY has a working copy of GT4 online, but it didn't live up to his expectations, so that's where it sits...on his desk. Big deal. Work that out and fudge with it until it does work the way you want to.

However, don't overlook what you've already started. Finish GT4 OFFLINE first, and make it RIGHT.

Don't let a few bugs ruin the game for me because you got distracted with another project.

^ hater.

Hyde, thanks very much for the updates and keep us posted. and for the love, contact your guy with all of this info and any new stuff that we find non-stop! It would be awesome if we here at GTP could actually help in making the final NA/PAL version of GT4 a better game. :)

i'm surprised you continue to make lame comments in this thread

how bout you just stop posting in it, eh?

I hope I could help HYDE, and help all of us in the U.S. too.
But I don't have the game nor have I played it. I did noticed an error regarding the corvette Z06, the Z06 is not a 2000 model, this have been covered allready. I wonder how KY and PD do their research.

I really think they could care less about US and European gamers. They already have me disapointed. This would be the best driving simulation game out there, no doubt about it. But their possition on foreing gamers really sucks. They delay the thing like it is for themselves. Maybe it is. I own a copy of Prologue and is a good game and I know GT4 is way better, but for people that claim to sleep under their desks and practically live in their workplace, the delays for this game are highly unsatisfactory. Why should we want to drive the useless and unecesary variations of skylines and lancers, there are so many cars that should have been included in this game instead. Don't take me wrong I'm not asking for cars to be included for the U.S. realease!!! I think they release the game in the U.S. because clearly they make a good profit out of it, but it clearly dosn't seem like a product made for gamers outside of japan. Why were other GT games never released in the states? :odd:

I have many things to say about this game and I have been waiting years for it, but not realeasing it for the hollidays blew it for me, I have been a member of this forum for some years now, but I don't post much because english is not my first language.

HYDE thanks for the asking.

Well, on the Corvette issue, it probably should have been labeled as a concept, and that may be why it didn't have a mesh grill.

After all, the game was released in 2001, and the Z06 was still fairly new. I think they didn't put in the mesh grill b/c maybe the concept didn't have one, and they made it like the concept.

Gabkicks
good movies, and probably the only reason anyone has heard of the car. :P. Im looking foward to drifting it in gt4... it is FR, right?

Even better, it's RR. With all that steel it's on the heavy side though, so it may not be ideal for drifting. Only time will tell? And yeah, Back to the future really are memorable movies, although I admit to not seeing one for years. Where did they all disappear??
Back on topic, sure the US Beta being QA'ed is possible, and fixing such trivial issues as the Mini's gearbox or the Lightning's drivetrain are possible. More complex stuff that is missing (memory card battle anyone?) is probably thus for a reason, and not because PD *forgot* to put it in the Japanese game. I highly doubt that these kinds of items can be fixed at this point. Earlier, yes. But not likely anymore. :yuck:
