Much closer to Grid 1. No patches have come yet and there's nothing game changing that needs to be fixed.
 
Hmmm that's hard because I don't want to give you the wrong advice if you don't like it! I was hesitant to get it straight away, but I'm really glad I did. If you like proper racing, you should really pick it up.
 
I'm doing the Grid Grand Slam at the moment. I just did fifteen laps of Brands Hatch - and all of them under 1:27.000. It was the only way to beat Nathan McKane, who sat within half a second of me for fourteen laps. Even then, I still made a mistake at Sheene Corner on the final lap, so he was back on my bumper to the finish line.
 
Still don't trust the internet with my money, but there is a Best Buy and a quality game store, and a GameStop if required, next town over.

I'm about to do a JDM Time Attack event with a Nissan Silvia. I've never driven one before - is it rear-wheel drive?

Yes. It's actualy famous for it because it's a favorite for drifting.
 
Well, I don't think much of drifting, so I don't set much in store by that. But thank you for the advice. I needed to know so I can set the car up and get the event out of the way.

Heh, we're almost at the same spot. I've got two more events to go in the Grand Slam, first in the standings by 19 points. It's going to be close whether I can finish the last three races ahead, open wheel seems to be where Ravenwest are at their best. Damage limitation might be the name of the game.
 
I find Open-Wheel to be pretty good. The key is to learn the circuit to suit the car. You can take the corners so much faster than in other disciplines, even if you have to be gentle on the throttle.
 
I want to enjoy Endurance racing. I really do. I love the cars, and the night racing is fun. But I just can't do it. My tactics amount to blocking and deliberately taking as long as possible to get through slow corners, and it feels really cheap. It stops being a question of how far I can go, and starts being about how long I can stall for.

Put it this was... Grid 1 WAS my favourite game..... was. Now it's Grid Autosport.

We do have a patch coming soon to fix some issues with online leaderboards, but like others have said, the game is pretty stable as it is :)

Sorry to hear you're not enjoying that element of the game. However, if you like the cars and night tracks, You can run endurance cars and night tracks in Custom Cup. Just set it up as a Race event instead of endurance. Set to x5 and off you go :)

It's not that I'm not enjoying it, more that I'm not enjoying the way that I'm playing it. Mind you, I didn't like Open-Wheel to begin with, so maybe I'll come around to it.

Besides, after mulling over my driving style, I'm inspired to create Sinister Foreign Investment Group Racing, which was founded by a Nigerian prince living in exile the British Virgin Island whereupon he met a racing driver whose career and reputation were left in tatters after his sponsors were found to be a front for an illegal betting syndicate operating out of a Macau casino, and the two went into business as the owners of a racing team. It's intended as a parody of groups like QADBAK and Quantum Racing, the obscure groups that buy into Formula 1 teams and everyone assumes they are in it for shady activities (the joke being that SFIGR are completely legitimate, despite the name, which is actually Latin for "left-handed"; it got its unsavoury connotations because people used to believe that anyone who was left-handed was possessed by the devil).

Yes, I have too much time on my hands. It's school holidays, so there's no work available, and after thirty laps of COTA with Nathan McKane examining my gearbox, my hands can't take much more. But if you're looking to add more teams in future, I have a great idea ...

Blocking is always going to be a viable option in games that don't actively punish blocking, and that's a pretty tall ask for a penalty system to try and distinguish. I remember in Gran Turismo 1 driving with the rear view button held down so that I could see the AI coming an block them on the straights.

It's really up to you to moderate your own driving. If you don't like the way you're driving, don't do it. Make yourself take the loss, as you would in real life. Give yourself a stop/go penalty on the start straight if you like.

I have 5 rewinds available to me per race, to be used in only two situations.
1. The AI does something completely retarded, like PIT manoeuvres me, brake checks or simply doesn't brake at all.
2. I do something that I consider blatantly unsporting, like any of the above.
It's there so that the AI and I can have a few get out of jail free cards for when either of us do something unsporting, because it often happens by accident.

As far as endurance, I've enjoyed it a lot more since I realised that the AI tend to use their tyres pretty hard. I can happily cruise around at 9/10ths saving my tyres and letting the AI drop back past me as they burn themselves out. If I'm in front I'll drive defensively to try and keep them behind, but it only lasts so long if the pace and tyres aren't there to back it up. This is definitely a situation where having a wheel is beneficial though, I can't imagine the precision it would take to be as kind to your tyres with a pad as I can be with a wheel.

But I can't carry any speed into corners; I tend to just accelerate to the braking zone, come to a near stop, then turn it around and accelerate again.

Ah. I got trained out of that a while ago. There was a league where some of the guys were just outright faster than me, but they were less consistent. So they'd pass me, but there was a good chance that they'd crash themselves out of the race before the finish, or at least lose themselves a lot of time in an incident.

Of course, if I started chasing them I'd be driving outside my limits and I'd probably crash out too. As soon as I learned to let them go and drive my own race, I started beating them consistently, or at least scoring higher.

It works well in the endurance races in GAS, as you can expect the leaders to start falling back to you later in the race. It doesn't really work in the other disciplines, if you're not fast enough you're just going to lose. The AI do make the occasional mistake and they might crash out, but it's a rarity. Especially for the Ravenwest guys, I'm not sure I've seen either of them have anything more serious than a big moment yet.

I'm already driving as fast as I can Sherman, you electronic dingleberry. I haven't just been tooling around waiting for you to motivate me into going all out. I'm not going to find a second a lap just because of your stunning and insightful remarks. "Let's get out of mid-pack!"

Yes, let's do that.

I guess if you're not fast enough all you can really do is try and get through the season well enough to get an offer from a better team. I will be interested to finally get in a Ravenwest car and see if they're actually quicker, or if it's just setup options.

Get yourself a pre-paid credit card for stuff like that. I don't trust the internet either with my data, so I juiced up a pre-paid card and I just add to it when I want to buy something. Costs me $40/year but I look at it as aggravation insurance. If you keep a low balance your exposure is minimal.
