Bit of an exaggeration there, there was some sliding but certainly not around every corner. The touring car video looked very good to me, very much reminded me of the older TocA games. Not the most realistic handling in world but close enough to be challenging and fun.
Still slidy tho

Grid what? I'm talking about the above videos, and I didn't see any ridiculous sliding in the parts I watched.

The handling was definitely off. Tyres broke away too easily resulting in snap oversteer... in cars that really shouldn't be wildly oversteering.

With everything we've seen and heard about Autosport, this should

With everything we've seen and heard about Autosport, this should be fixed 👍

Hopefully... The problem in their previous games is also that when you used a wheel, they had the steering lock set at 200 degrees. So apart from the physics, I hope they finally put some more work in the wheel support as well.

Cheers for the vids

Hmmmm cars still seem to be sliding round every corner ala Grid 2

Hmm, not too thrilled to know that. Not a big fan of the slide and pivot turning approach!

Real cars slide depending on how you drive them, no?

They do. Not the way depicted in these "racing games" though, without breaking traction! Cars do not go into turns sideways as if all four wheels are turning at the same time! That's something that bugs me to bits about games like Shift 2.

Anyway, I hope the handling model is unforgiving this time around, with consequences of reckless or careless driving. Long shot I know, but I'm hopeful.

Nothing against arcade physics, but it needs to stay fun. From what I've seen in that touring car video, either he can't drive or it's again not possible to have the car going exactly where you want it to go. And that's the biggest fun-killer that you can have in a racing game :( . On top of that on the straights it looked floaty as well. He constantly makes these tiny left-right-left corrections. My only hope here is that the pre-alpha code tag truly means something physics-wise...

This worries me. I hope it's corrected in the final release.

Just because you can get the cars sideways doesn't mean it's the fastest or most consistent way around the track, that remains to be seen. You can get any car sideways in any game or any real car for that matter, especially when you aren't skilled or are unfamiliar with the track as the videos you're referring to seem to indicate.

There is some very interesting info in th 17min vid about single seaters.

1. F3 is the slowest single seater in there
2. The fastest single seaters are something very special/exciting.

It means that Indy Cars are not the fastest single seaters. What could it be? Classic F1 cars?

I've watched the other two clips too now. On the plus side, the open-wheel video looked better in that regard. The Audi A5 vid seemed more or less ok as well (some sliding is accepted in street cars on a street track :)). At least on the straights it didn't look as floaty as the Touring Cars.

The Touring Cars video has me worried, but I'm still hopefull because of the other vids. Hopefully they're constantly tweaking and improving their handling model, and the Touring Cars demo is on another build than the other two.

One thing I don't like on GRID 1, is that the brakes are too overpowered, the cars instantly stop.
I would enjoy more realistic braking distances.

Always hard to judge based on a video. It really needs to be experienced to appreciate in full. Trust me... the cars won't slide unless you make them slide. If you want to go 100mph into a hairpin corner and pull the handbrake.... sure... it'll slide. If you break into the breaking zones and turn into the apex, clip the curb and throttle out of the corner, it'll behave how you'd expect it to behave. :D

What if the brakes are dabbed too hard and you miss the apex... will it understeer like it should?

Grid Autosport had never been full sim....will never be full sim. It's not what we do.

Would be nice to see you guys venturing into sim only territory with just one title. Just to see the reaction it gets. There are MORE than a few of us out in the gaming market that would embrace it with open arms! :D

If you slam on the breaks and you have ABS off, you'll lock up the front wheels....as you should. So yes, you'd understeer and miss the apex

With ABS on, the ABS will do the job it is supposed to do and not lock the wheels. You will understeer and miss the apex.

Hope that helps :D

I really like the vids so far. The only remark I have is that in replay the touringcars look a bit to floaty and their cornering shows a bit of a strange approach. For the rest I find it great. The sounds are superb and the AI looks like a good challenge :D

In this vid the person says/believes(0:58) the touringcars are from the lowest class. @anim8r_uk , can you confirm this?

@Speedster911 In one of the videos the guy overbrakes and misses the apex due to understeer and wheellockup as it seems.

YES! Pleases me to no end. Can't describe the feeling!! :dopey:

So he says..."Too arcadey & To slidey"

Sums up what people have been saying around the net and weve not even played it yet. :(

The touring car line-up looks great this game. It'll probably be the one I'll spend a majority of my time in. I'm sure it will be the most popular as well just as it was in the first game.
