What the hell was that??

Tricky place to pass a back marker, but Estre was lucky not to be out of the race himself - #179 seemed blissfully unaware of the blue flags and race leaders right behind him.

That wasn’t enough room to attempt the pass. The Aston is trying to make the corner instead of being on the dirty side of the track.

Especially if Manthey were conserving or knew they running longer. The BMW was pitting anyway. Not sure if Manthey were letting Estre know what strategy ROWE are on.

He opened the door implying he was going to let the leaders through and closed it again.

He probably never saw them or the blue flags.

Too high stakes to risk a move. Obviously, I’m not a racing driver in the situation, but as I posted above. Don’t know if Manthey kept Estre abreast of what ROWE were doing.

No, he didn't. He was driving the racing line. That corner is not a place where you let someone lap you and Estre should know that.
Watch the POV from Estre. I can totally see why Estre thought he was being let through.

It definitely looked like the aston martin was giving space to estre to pass initially but then the space was gone.
The move didn’t need to be made though, especially with the bmw due to come into the pits. The pressure from the bmw must’ve got to estre.

As mentioned by one of the commentators, it’s a two apex corner. You go out in out in out. Plus, as per the rules, the Aston didn’t signal it was staying left. It had the right for the racing line, as those corners go. We’ll see what happens, if anything.

No, that's just the racing line. You don't take the first apex in that corner. You run the corner wide to hit the 2nd apex and miss the third apex again. The crash is 100% on Estre who was in no position to force himself to the inside, even if it would be a good place to lap a car.

Are they really going to let Manthey get away without any penalty from that accident?
Hope so. Would be really unfortunate if this race was decided anywhere but on the track.

They are fighting for position RIGHT NOW.. !!

Gutted for Grello/Manthey - seems harsh to me... here's what's left of the #179...
