If anyone ever tells you that Gran Turismo 3's ability to put a car in the air is unrealistic, show them this picture ...

... then give them the finger!

Yeah, but Loud, look at the nose-down attitude of this Impreza, then go run the rallies again, and see how you can get 60 degrees nose-up! I've had a lot of shunts that way.

I've never had much trouble with the actual rally cars, even the Escudo. My problems show up when I race a Skyline or something on a rally course. They have so much rear down force that you're garounteed to be looking at the sky.

It also depends on how you hit the hills. If you come off them on a good line you'll just float through the air. If you come off them all wopper-jawed you'll end up sideways in the fence. I'm glad the game doesn't allow you to roll the cars. I'd end up doing end-overs every race.

Well, all true enough, but I would counter with this.

Last night playing WRC I had a fairly simple off, but happened to catch a tree right on top of the back left wheel.

As I drove off I noticed the car wasn't driving the same as it had - and looked down to see the screen informing me of a damaged axle.

This lead to a more comprehensive shunt later that stage (it's always the long ones) where I hit the side of the car again which spun the car around nose first into a tree.

So, now I have a car that has a damaged axle, a radiator puncture and a gearbox problem. It won't steer properly, it hates shifting out of third (to the extent that I ended up not going lower than fourth) and is down on power - and later in the stage the radiator problem caused an oil problem that cost me MORE power.

Fantastic...

I had all the damage happen at once by doing the most stupid thing, driving into a boulder. Duh!!!!
Luckily for me it was a shortish stage, but what a pain in the @ss it is, especially when the steering goes.

It does discourage hitting things though, doesn't it?

Have you noticed that if you hit ropes, you get steered in the right direction without damage, but if you hit actual things (like houses, trees, rocks) there's sparks and unpleasantness?

"Unpleasantness". I like that (:

If you've got a fast connection, check out www.swrt.com and go to the gallery.

They have TONS of sweet, extremely high-res shots of the Subaru cars doing incredible things.

no i meant what rally game are you guys talking about because someone said something about a game called wrc. i just wanted to know what that stands for. they were talking about how they get realistic damage when they hit stuff like an axle breaking.

Ahhhh, actually I think there are quite a few games that fit that catagory.

Here's one of my threads talking about all the different kinds of games for PS2.

You could also do a search on the forums:

You also might want to have a look through my avatar archive. If you're a rally fan, there are a couple groups of them that might fit your style (:

World Rally Championship

oh cool thank you! is this world rally championship for pc or what system would it be for???

PS2 only - and if you're in the US, I wouldn't be holding my breath for a US release.

If you're patient, Colin McRae 3 will be out later this year (2nd quarter I think) and that will be in both formats, and I think would probably get a US release - I think it did last time.

Yeah, I can't spell. But what's wrong with "wopper-jawed" ??

By the way, you're not very threatening.
