Well, UT has an option to change the bot skill level which allows the user to vary the difficulty. Maybe Polyphony should implememnt something like this.

I know, which is why I suggested it only become available after completing the game. That way everyone still gets to 100% having played the same game with the same level of competition, but we get a chance to take on some real competition once we do get a significant amount of the game, be it Sim or Arcade mode, completed.

It would definately cut down on the amount of annoying AI threads in the GT forums. 👍

There's something worth fighting for.

Exactly, the game I said earlier on in this thread has that option. You can set the slider for AI all the way up to 150% if you want the hardest available challenge, and the great thing is, you don't need to use a crappy car to make each race a challenge

I suspect that the real problems with the AI being not being that good is that the AI actually do have to race their cars... a lot of racing games just move the AI forward a stretch in the road when the player is massively ahead and vice versa when behind... in GT the AI has always been limited to actually driving a car that has X amount of HP and y amount of torque and z amount of grip...

Did you not experience the catch up mode AI in GT3?

Guess they must have been crap then. cause i could often find my self racing, in a fairly tight race, then have an incident or an off then blast my way straight back up the field, yet when out in front not put the same sort of distance between them as i had made up coming from behind.
That always seemed odd to me.

Edit: this didnt always seem to be the case though.
P.S its so long since i played Gt3 maybe im mis remebered.

Edit again:? heres a discussion about it.

It's long been said it's easier to catch people than it is to lead a race.

Explain that theory, when you can achieve the same discrepencies even if you post consistant laps.

Having studied the thread that you gave I'm going to post this theory...

"In Beginner and Amateur leagues the AI races at a reduced rate when you are behind but when you overtake makes every effort it can to catch up

In Pro & Endurance races (as backed up by the threads findings) the "Boost" was not noticed to take any effect.

This increase in AI however can never break the physics model for the cars/tracks (Which is why you annihilate them when you drive a muchos overpowered car but not when you drive a similar powered car)"

Therefore I feel that this is not a "Boost" as in the car gets a better car but the AI gets a better skill level if you are ahead... I will also point out the advantages of being behind (Slipstreaming, ability to outbrake opponents cos you know when they're braking, Seeing their lines etc) which may also make somewhat of a difference...

They should experiment with something similar to Virtua Fighter 4 where you had an option to fight against the world champion. His technique was built in the game as a difficulty degree you could choose.Basically that meant beign owned but something like that would work in GT.They shouldn't make it extremely hard but still pretty fast and that would act as the Proffesional difficulty.

Having never been behind in the Beginner or Amateur league I wasn't aware of the slowdown, and in the Professional League I've never noticed a bit of boost, if my laptimes are consistent the rate at which I catch or drive away from people remains consistent in parallel.

I think this "boost" is just your determination to catch up after screwing up. I sometimes "doze off" when in the lead and end up behind, then get put myself in gear to finish ahead of them. I have never noticed any artificial "rubber band" AI in GT3.

The boost was more than evident in some races (in the Amateur League I guess).

Not only have I witnessed it during a replay, but also it would became obvious when at start of a race you would gain very rapidly a certain distance over the computer opponents and from there on that distance would stay the same for the entire race.

Note that I am talking about consistant laps times and even when I would slow down a bit, that distance would still maintain.

I hope I made myself clear.

Were you talking to me...? :odd:

Yeah you made a post same time as I did so I wound up simply repeating you.
