Rallye Challenge

nv42hd.jpg

It seems many people complain about lack of rally events in latest GT games which is why I decided to build a small challenge as a homage to crop of events we had in Gran Turismo 4.

The rules are simple. Pick one car from the following list below, upgrade it within the restrictions and run number of consecutive* laps listed for each of the listed circuits. Submit your laps to Matej via Conversation mode along with the power and weight values of your car. The two laps between which consistency will be valuated are going to be selected randomly. This ensures all players have identical chances regardless of what car they are driving.

Laps must be run in Free Run / Practice mode but turn off the ghost mode** while driving. Avoid hitting walls as much as possible. View replay after running to write down all required consecutive laps.

Your submission should look like this:

GT4 Rallye Round (# of round) Times

Driver: 'your profile name'
Car: 'full name of your car'
P/W: 'horsepower and weight figures of your car'

'course name'
'required lap'
Lap x: 'lap time'
Lap y: 'lap time'
...
list as many laps as circuit requires

Results will be announced as soon as I receive all times from participants. Therefore, you have unlimited time to send your results but do not delay for longer than really necessary.

Driver needs to submit number of consecutive laps on each course. Then, Two Target Laps laps will be randomly chosen and consistency between them valuated. Here is an example:

Ice Arena
Laps: 4
Two Target Laps: 2 & 3

Lap 4: 1'00.678
Lap 5: 1'00.500 (2)
Lap 6: 1'00.700 (3)
Lap 7: 1'00.555
------------------
Difference: 0'00.200 sec

For Ice Arena you would get 0'00.200 penalty seconds. Driver with the least penalty times at the end of the championship wins. The two target laps get randomly chosen for each course. This system allows each driver to stay competitive regardless how fast or slow he drives. If a driver doesn't submit laps for particular course or his submission is invalid he will get extra penalty times per circuit.

All in all, be as much consistent as possible.

*By consecutive I mean in a row. For example, lap 4 & 5 or 10, 11 & 12 but not 4 & 7 or 10, 12 & 13. Best Lap and Last Lap display should be your best guide.

**Press Up on D-pad. If not, try Select. If that doesn't work either, then you must have changed the controller settings, check it.

I'm in how long have I got to do this?

I have updated the rule...

Submit your laps to Matej via Conversation mode along with the power and weight values of your car.

...and added new one:

Results will be announced as soon as I receive all times from participants. Therefore, you have unlimited time to send your results but do not delay for longer than really necessary.

Welcome aboard Shotamagee ! But I advise you to wait with the racing until we get another player. There is no point in running a challenge with only two drivers on the grid. Unless you are really eager to do so.

I saw your initiation several days ago but I thought you would be too occupied with the time trial you've started in Tourist Trophy forum, so I couldn't resist for any longer. :)

Ok, with three drivers on the grid we can commence with the challenge.

Currently we are running round 1 on Ice Arena, Grand Canyon and Cathedral Rocks II Reverse. Pick one car from the lot, mind the tuning restrictions and run two consecutive laps on each of the listed tracks. You can do the tracks in any order. Submit times to me via Conversation mode.

The idea is to run through as many scenarios as possible. Once we complete this round I will pronounce new selection of cars and tracks. Please, submit here your choice of car along with power and weight values. Cars are not exclusive but it would be great to see as many different drivetrains as possible.

OK, Cool. But should I drive the same car during all rounds? Or I can drive an different car each round?

I'll send you a PM.

I'll send you a PM.

Every round has eligible list of cars from which you can choose one you like. Once we hit round two, eligible car list will change, so you won't be able to use round 1 car anyway.

OK. But in Round 1, only the best lap time will count, right?

What counts is the difference between two submitted laps per circuit. Those laps doesn't have to be the fastest but consecutive, that is what is very important. For example, lap 4 & 5 may not be you best laps (let's say lap 11 is your best)but if difference between them is minimal, they would make a great submission.

OK. But I only save my best lap times.

I have also read you PM and I have a feeling this may lead us to another set of misunderstandings, so I'm going to post an example of how submission should look like:

GT4 Rallye Round 1 Times

Driver: Harsk100
Car: Mini Marcos GT '70
P/W: 105hp/559kg

Ice Arena
Lap 4: 1'00.678
Lap 5: 1'00.500

Grand Canyon
Lap 6: 3'00.478
Lap 7: 3'00.351

Chatedral Rocks II Reverse
Lap 12: 1'23.801
Lap 13: 1'23.756

And that is all, leave the rest to me. Don't forget to add appropriate headline because I don't want to view you times before it is neccesary.
Your two consecutive laps on each circuit doesn't have to be the fastest. I recommend everyone to view replay after running to check between what two laps you had the best consistency (because margin between laps is what counts). Problem with GT4 is that HUD displays only your best and last lap and those two in most cases aren't consecutive or the closese you have set.

You can also run your laps in Photo Drive mode in case your replay in Free Run / Practice mode doesn't display every single lap you have made.

Today I'm going to try few cars and pronounce my choice. Official choice should be pronounced in the thread.

Ah! OK. I'll try again.

I'd like to participate but I have one question. Will this thread be updated on a constant bases? I tried doing a challenge in GT2 and the guy didn't update the thread in god knows how long. If this is updated I'll be happy to join.

I got one question: Will points be attributed in this challenge?

Yes, certainly. Drivers will be rewarded with penalty points, a system I implemented in other similar challenges. You get one penalty point per randomly (for each course) chosen limit if your laps are not that consistent. I'll show you an example:

Ice Arena
Lap 4: 1'00.678

That means that for Ice Arena you would get 3 penalty points. Driver with the least points at the end of championship wins. The limit gets randomly chosen for each course and can vary. This system allows each driver to stay competitive regardless how fast or slow he drives.

All in all, be as much consistent as possible.

I'd like to participate but I have one question. Will this thread be updated on a constant bases? I tried doing a challenge in GT2 and the guy didn't update the thread in god knows how long. If this is updated I'll be happy to join.

Of course it will be updated regulary. You can join without doubts. :)

Yeah I'll give it a go :)
Welcome abroad RetroDriver. :)

With five drivers currently on the grid I should introduce the ability to form a team. Simply team up with another driver, name the team and collect points together. A driver who remains alone will have to form its own team and drive another different car for imaginary team member.

Let me know what works best for you guys. Soon I will update the first post with essential elements to keep everything at one place.

I tested a few cars from the list. So far, the fastest car from the list for me was the Lotus Elan S1.

Yes, certainly. Drivers will be rewarded with penalty points, a system I implemented in other similar challenges. You get one penalty point per randomly (for each course) chosen limit if your laps are not that consistent. I'll show you an example:

Ice Arena
Lap 4: 1'00.678
Lap 5: 1'00.500
------------------
Difference: 0'00.178 sec
Limit: 1 point per 0'00.050

OK. I know that there is an penalty point, but no points system?

So, the people with less points wins the championship, right?

My team is: Harsk World Motorsports

My (imaginary) racing number is #96.

I think that we should have an imaginary racing numbers... What do you think?

Do we have to choice from the list? I have a few cars that I'm looking at. They look ok to use but I want to know first.

No standard points system, that is correct. Only penalty points. The less penalty points you have, the better your position is. You can have number if you want, it is not really important.

What do you mean by term choice ? You can test all cars if you want but choose only one that will compete in the round.

OK. But imagine if I was putting consecutive lap times 2 and 4. With lap 2 & 4 times, would I get penalized?

I have 3 cars I'm looking at. One is on the list the other two are not. I was just wondering if we can use cars not on the list.

Your submission would be invalid and you would get extra penalty points. At the moment I'm not sure how much but definetly more than others.

Only cars that are on the list are eligible for competition.

Ok.

I would like to change a tuning rule and limit suspension kit only to Sport type for this round. If this is going to affect tunes you could have already made, please let me know. But if none of you have commited with tuning yet, consider Sport kit as the only eligible kit for this round.
