GT5 Career vs GT4 Career

GT4's career mode structure was better planned that GT5's. But, I'm going to give PD the benefit of the doubt here, GT4 wasn't made with an online network in mind.

GT5 (with slight evidence from GT5P) was put together to be integrated with PSN. The overly short career mode might have been put in place to allow room for future events. We haven't see any yet for the game, but I remember GT5P receiving updated events and updated cars. I remember the Evora, FT-86, and F2007 updates. Didn't they also update the events list at some point, too? It's been a long time since I played GT5P.

So we'll see!

side note: Has anyone raced at Indy Road Course in career mode? I haven't. Lol. I haven't looked at all the events, but I'm lvl23 and only have a few events left to clear in extreme. It's like they forgot about it haha

GT5's carrer is just a joke compared to GT4's. Even GT3's and GT2's was better.

Things that i think need to be changed with Career.

First, when you hit the GT Life Button, it should take you to the current screen, but instead of all the stuff we have in the current menu, i think there should be ONE button. "Enter Career Mode"

You hit that and it brings you to a map similar to GT4's career mode setup. To be honest, i believe that the GT4 career mode was more well thought out.

There needs to be event halls, like the current 6 we have now, except there needs to be a "Rally" section put in, and a "special Events Hall"

The USED car lots in GT4 were very nice. I think since in GT5 that we have 800 standard cars, there should be multiple lots that contain about 60 cars each and each time you go to race, it updates with 10 in each lot. This would make finding a standard car WAY easier.

On to the events: We need to have the manufacturer races back and MORE of them since we have so many cars.
There should also be more general events, rally events, and special events.
The events need to be longer. I think short events for the beginning ones are fine, but there REALLY needs to be a jump in the length and difficulty of them as we progress.

I would like the superGT races to be at least 25 laps each with a 10 or more circuit championship.

IMO, the career mode in GT5 needs to be completely reworked. PD dropped the ball here and i think it may be because Sony wanted an online mode and for the game to really tie in with the PSN.

I don´t see any difference, sorry but same BS as GT4... Select the fastest car and win every race... Where is the challenge? GT5P was much better...

You must make your own challenge, if the fastest car in the event has 250kw and 1000 lbs, you must buy/select an car with 230kw and 1100 lbs... And then, if you are lucky, you´ve got an nice race... if not, restart the whole procedure again :scared::yuck:

Only the license tests and special events are nice... Same as in GT4 the license tests and mission races... The rest was BS... But at least, in GT4 we´ve got (useless) A-Spec points and you get more A-Spec points if you win with an slow car... But in GT5? not even that...

Exactly. While GT4 was meant to be played as a single player offline game GT5 is not. If they continue to add to the online area the game will be better than GT4 for those of us who actually like racing against humans rather than the AI.

The problem with AI no matter how good it is is that you eventually learn what it will and will not do and then you beat it and beat it some more and then you beat it to death and move on.

Humans on the other hand are unpredictable. they get better, they get mad, they cheat they do whatever it takes to win or they give up. The old single player modes are rapidly becoming a thing of the past.

GT4's career was streets ahead of GT5. I liked the fact there were so many races available I genuinely didn't know where to go next.
The tiny amount in GT5, by comparison, is almost claustrophobic. It's sad.

Not only were there more events in GT4, but the events were also longer.

There were "Championship" races that had 10 separate races in them. There are many events GT5 that are only 1 race!!! 👎

There were some races in GT4 that you needed to pit because of the number of laps. Now the only races where pitting is needed is in endurance. 👎

Speaking of that, why do we learn how to exit the pits in the NASCAR challenge and restart after a caution if there are no races that require you to pit? And there are no cautions. 👎

SuperGT without pits? 3 races? 👎

I think the length of the events is more of the problem than just the lack of them. If they were longer and had more individual races and more laps, I think there would be less disappointment.
Good post ! I forgot that GT4 had non Endurance races with TYRE WEAR and requiring a pit strategy. I think the FormulaGT event was one; the AI had soft rubber and would need to pit, whereas if you picked hard rubber you could go the complete race, but had to stay within one pit stop in time from the leader for the win.

yup, for sure GT5 career is WAY too short.. :( I'm playing it for 2 weeks and I'm about 86% now.. lol.. in GT4 I was 86% after a half a year!
GT5 is better to drive, it looks better, but GT4 I guess was a better game in career mode.

Not to mention the prize cars actually made sense in GT4. You won cars that you could actually use which made it a lot more fun to do races. In GT5 you know it's going to be some crap so it's not even exciting.

Honestly the gameplay in GT5 is total crap. If the (car) graphics and car physics weren't there this would be like a 5/10 game.

This pretty well covers my feelings on the matter.

Also, the loss of A-spec points is a bit disappointing. That gave a huge amount of replay value to GT4 without it getting in the way of those who weren't interested = win/win

No Power & Speed in GT5 was just the thing that killed career mode for me. I spent months of my life on those two tracks (Test Course & Las Vegas) and it allowed me to perfect all of my cars acceleration aspects.

I thought about this for a while, GT5 is decent length for people who doesn't have time to game a lot. This is coming from someone who's spend countless hours since the original Gran Turismo. Comparing to the university days of GT1-4, having 3-4hrs (if not more) per day to play, GT5 seems to be growing with that crowd/age group. Honestly, I would LOVE to play more, but I can only slot maybe 10-12hrs of game play per week considering work, family, and general things to do around the house.

If GT5 has as much events as GT4, I would have to grind at it for years! And to be honest, I don't know if I can do that anymore especially given how hard it is to make money in GT5. I would much rather finish offline mode, and spend more time online with friends and coworkers.
