Nor the UK version

@SUPER NUMBBER
Welcome.
It is the majority of the time

Okay, so I thought he was talking about the GP vehicle....but still: Do you have to insult me to correct me? I thought this was a cool place for GT fans to hang out; I may have been wrong.

In any case, I still don't think the McLaren F1 was on the cover of the US version of GT2:

Gran_Turismo_2.jpg

It is. See the F1 logo on the tachometer? It's the McLaren F1's interior.

Quite so - also the rear cover of the NTSC-J GT2 has a Vector M12 on it.

Apparently the cover has always been the latest car KY has bought / has been given... and im not making this up here...

GT4 had a GT on it because he had just got one and loved it, he also owns and RUF (GT3) and an S2000 (as on GT2's box art).... the concepts and prologues and regions other than NTSCJ don't follow this trend...

I reckon if you know what car he's getting next it will be on the box, he's like any other guy, he wants his latest toy on the front cover...

I bet it will be a Ferrari... maybe even a Ferrari that isnt out now but will be when GT5 comes out...

Robin

what your saying is true. the most recent cars ive heard KY said he has is:

Nissan 350z (heavly moded/track only
Honda S2000 (all carbon body/track only)
Mercedes-Benz SL55 (daily driver)
Porsche 997 gt3 (white)
Ford GT (white/gt4 cover)
Ford GT (gunmetal)
Nissan GTR

im expecting the GT3 or gunmetal GT

I think having a Maserati Gran Turismo on the cover would be a neat play on words. If they ever get the license.

Yeah all these covers follow a pattern, I think the GT3 cover was a Porsche (the one he owns) but due to the license thing he only showed the headlight.

There was a Honda S2000 on the GT2 cover which he also owns..

The Merc SL55 featured as the car in the intro video next to a plane in the concept 2002 version.

The Ford GT was on the GT4 cover...

and now he has a GTR which is on the cover of Prologue...

Im telling you its going to be his next car!

Robin

Well I can't make out the "F1" logo you speak of, but it does look like the F1's gauge pod. I stand corrected.

It's just about as blurry on the real box, but it does show the McLaren F1 logo and a speedometer up to 260mph...

I know wich car its gonna be, GT5 ain't gonna be out in Japan before january 2009. thats also the periode when the GT-R V-spec will be launched.

I thought the cover for GT1 was a Camaro...I'm pretty sure that's what it looks like under that silver car cover.

And I'm also confident an F1 car did not appear in the US cover for GT2.

Yes your correct. I was a Comaro on the cover of GT1 (US).

Yeah all these covers follow a pattern, I think the GT3 cover was a Porsche (the one he owns) but due to the license thing he only showed the headlight.

now thats impossible. GT3 was released 4 years before the 997 gt3 went on sale. the 997 carrera chassis didn't even exist in 2001/2002

GT3 had an Acura. RUF for (PAL/JP) users, GT4 has the Ford GT (loved it).
What do you think the cover car for GT5 will be? I my self
have a funny fealing the F2007 or some other Ferrari will be the star
featured on the front of the GT5 case. Also what do you not want to
see? Me, I dont want to see the GT R 35. I love it but, more than likely it will
be the starchild of many other console "racing" games.

it allready has! Its been featured on the cover for Need For Speed Prostreet

-> That shot is ok, but the GT title text won't look like that, it will look more like this:

gt5prologuetv6.jpg

^ On the full game, remove the 'Prologue' and you're all set!

-> And the GT sign will look like this:

What's been the car company that has produced serious buzz ever since GTHD? Ferrari. What's the hottest Japanese car for GT? The new GT-R. So it's going to be a toss-up for me between the new GT-R and the (in my view) Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. It COULD be the Enzo Ferrari if PD locks up the Enzo. It would be the only other game(?) to feature the Enzo Ferrari since "Project Gotham Racing 2." DT Racer featured that car on the box, but it's not the car in the game. So I'm going to break down my post into two parts.

Why the GT-R?
PD are Skyline-crazy. I know of all the people who complained of too many Skylines and too many copies of one car. It wouldn't be a very nice choice for most people sick of Skylines. However, the GT-R has been making waves. Getting to race the GT-R would be heaven for most people, including myself. I've always thought of the Castrol Supra GT as the signature race car of Gran Turismo. Most ironic was that the Supra GT was the car that finally beat the rival Skylines before the Skylines would be a widely-featured car in Gran Turismo. PD even worked with Nissan to put this car together. Why not showcase the merits of their work by showing off the new GT-R in its beauty.

There is a negative after-effect in making this the cover car. The negative effect would be that it would be the same old Gran Turismo where there are "more Skylines than real sports cars." So enter my second argument...

Why a High-End Ferrari (let alone the 599 GTB Fiorano)?
Hating Gran Turismo because of not enough exotic sports cars is not a viable argument against GT. Since Forza, most dissatisfied racing fans of GT went to Forza for their exclusive sports car fix. The same people been proud that there is a game that finally features Ferrari and Porsche even while they think GT is too concerned with Skylines and Japanese sport compacts. But one day last year, a big bomb was dropped- GT has Ferrari licensing. It means that all the b*tching about how PD cannot acquire the licensing to car companies like Ferrari finally got people to shut up and envision racing all-out in Gran Turismo with power from the Prancing Horse. I'm mentioning the 599 GTB Fiorano because it was the first Ferrari to be featured in a Gran Turismo game. The Enzo Ferrari would be a cover car if PD gets the Enzo complete.

This one seems more logical to me. You got Ferrari, now showcase Ferrari power on the cover to get most people to care about GT5.

If it were up to me, a Ferrari will be featured even though the GT-R was featured before then. The argument about the GT-R being excluded from being a cover car because of GT5P is a viable point. So that's why I think Ferrari will be featured. And if it's going to be a Ferrari, it may likely be a high-end Ferrari like the 599 GTB Fiorano or even the Enzo Ferrari (if they include it). I don't see the F2007 being featured for one big reason- this isn't a Formula One game. Why would you make the global image of your game (may be some other covers for different regions) that features various cars to have an F1 car as the cover car? It may just be the beautiful Ferrari F430 featured. I can see a black background with a Ferrari F430 or Enzo Ferrari colored in Rosso Ferrari or Scuderia Rosso with a driver in a red Gran Turismo suit standing in the foreground ready to race.

Count me in for (some Ferrari besides the F2007).

"Hating Gran Turismo because of not enough exotic sports cars is not a viable argument against GT"

i dont understand this point at all

that is EXACTLY one of my biggest gripes with the series, i dont care about the suzuki swift and half the other **** mobiles that have under 140hp, give me cars like the porsche 959 or the lamborgini gallardo

It will be the daihatsu midget II.

That, or the daihatsu move.

Two of the weirdest, most pointless cars in the GT series, why not have a cover feature?

I wonder if they have a vote at PD itself as to what car to use for the cover, you know narrow it down to 20 by pulling from a hat, then they all have a vote? :D

Every game has uber-exotica. What other game has cars real people actually own?

i understand that point, and it's cool to have cars like the m3, z4, acura rsx, vw gti, s2000, rx7, 350z, prelude, civic si, etc... decent sporty cars

but i never drove cars like the capucino or daihatsu midget or other random ugly 80s-90s japanese cars with 50hp that were present in gt4

So, does that mean no-one wants to drive them?

a much smaller percentage than cars like the R8, F430, E92 M3, etc, just look at how much buzz their appearance is creating

i'd rather PD dedicate their time to modeling cars that are actually fun to drive, or at least have some important classic value

Something tells me that when you said you understood the point that GT has always been about real cars driven by real people, you actually didn't because you wanted to talk about exotica again.

How do you know that a small car with 50hp isn't "actually fun to drive" if you never drive them? Or does fun only come with gobs of horsepower?

They create less of a buzz, but that doesn't mean people don't want to drive them. Ofcourse a Citoren C3 isn't going to create the same buzz as a Ferrari F430 but that doesn't mean that the people buzzing about the F430 won't want to see what they can do in the C3. I love the regular cars (including the cappuccino) in GT yet I don't come on here and rave about them. I'd be annoyed if they were excluded though.

GT has a great balance that represents progression and the real world situation with cars, there are plenty of fast cars and cars that can be tuned to go fast in GT games the rest of them crate another dimension not only in the progression but also in the fun of finding a car you've owned/drive/hired etc and racing that or just turing regular cars to see how trackable you can get them.

-> Heh, heh, if not the Enzo, how about this?

ferrari_p45.jpg

-> Too much Ferrari loving and to much GT-R hating, oh boy. :indiff:

not gobs, but at least ~120hp and a decent platform, like i stated in the first post

That one-off Ferrari is awesome (in reference to #57). Actually, if GT5 were to include that, I'd have to imagine you have to get All-Gold in the Super License or IA licenses to get it. When you have licensed cars gracing the cover of a publication or game, you want something that can be recognizable by afficionados. That's why I think it may come down to the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano or the Ferrari F430. Want a dark horse (no pun intended, since Ferrari's symbol is the prancing horse)? Think about if the Ferrari F40 was on the cover? I don't think it will because I think something recent would probably do better. I'd even be fine with the Risi Competizione Ferrari F430GT (Houston and Texas pride!) on the cover. Most of us would probably agree a Ferrari is likely to grace the cover of GT5 because of all the hype and buzz it has created since word broke out of Ferrari in GT. Why would PD want to not showcase a major licensing accomplishment like getting Ferrari? I always thought that PD CAN and likely WILL get some of the higher-up names. We saw Bentley in GT4 (albeit the 2003 Le Mans-winning machine), Ducati and Aprilia in Tourist Trophy, now Ferrari for the next GT. Why not gloat a bit and show off Ferrari?

Even imagine if there were TWO cars on the cover racing each other. Think about an F430 or 599 GTB Fiorano leading a Nissan GT-R by a 1/2 car length. Any of you think there may be multiple cars on the cover racing each other?

That's EXACTLY what he's trying to say! GT5 has Ferrari, now you can't say it doesn't have exotics.
