GT5 delay - who's really responsible

It's supposed to have rallying right. Don't know if that's confirmed but a rallying aspect with no damage because the cars won't look beautiful is a backwards step.

Well I dunno...

Trees. I don't think they have to be perfect but even back in rallisport the trees looked pretty good. I think the desire is no more embarrassingly bad ones.

Reverse lights - They had to redo all the cars for higher res models anyway. They did a knockup job on the brake lights and enhancing their look, why they skipped the reverse lights at that time is beyond me but they certainly don't have to remodel the whole car to do them... and that's ignoring the fact they DID remodel the whole car up to GT5 quality already.

Damage - I don't see how it's not important, the compeition all has it in spades and it's been in the plans for GT5 from the get go. The fault there lies with KY for thinking somehow damage on some cars with others being invincible was gonna cut it. Also I do believe it was mentioned KY talked about wanting damage since way back.

Saying that any delays are the fans faults at this point feels like saying Toyotas current problems are customers faults for complaining about them. No, the delays and problems with GT5 are KY and PDs fault and if anything the fans are just not letting them slide on it.

Actually if the delays are the fans fault I will take my hat off to any developer who was willing to listen to it's fans.

The real timesink, tho, I'm pretty sure - damage. "I wanna play burnout!" congratulations nimrod, you guys set the game back at least 9 months and probably closer to a year for a feature that even the developer himself thought was retarded.

I was just watching the Classic Games HD on youtube GT4 and the major complaint against the game and the series for that matter was that instead of promoting proper driving its actually beneficial to ram into cars and walls, add damage and there you have it, people start watching their steps and the game experience is increased, sure you can turn it off, but im sure the game will reward those who race with full damage enabled (Aspec points) or more Cr.

Online is a fkn disaster without damage, ill sacrifice 9 months for that, as long as when we get it its the most complete game IT CAN BE.(not the most complete ever. i aint tryin to wait 9 years either.)

Sony's pathetic PS3 launch is a big factor in this delay. They're in a constant catch up game with Microsoft and Nintendo this generation and they NEED GT5 to be a killer exclusive.

If it had been 3-6 months delay we could think it was Sony. 9-12 months delay is obviously PD fault. The game is just not finished.

I'm thinking more of the online feature. I think they are still trying to figure out how to have dedicated servers or hosts that can run 16 grid cars online without getting dumped in the middle of a race. That would be the biggest fail for Sony if they put in an online feature for 16 car grid and they couldn't actually support it. Plus the fact that they are losing money on every PS3 they sell. If they released GT5 now and had to sell a whole bunch of PS3 they would lose more. Rather than release it later when they are going to profit on the PS3 too, as parts to build it get cheaper.

I know what you mean that people ask for things etc, but other developers either don't add in all of the stuff or add it, so what would everyone prefer, a great game or it being released tomorrow??

the poll the other day kind of answered that...

So a lot of us have been bitching about the length of time it's taken PD and Sony to get this one out the door with accusations flying against KY and his OCD-perfectionism or Sony's accountants looking for the perfect launch window but I've just realised it's neither of them that's really to blame and I have to get this off my chest.

It's the so called "fans" who have caused this. Not all of them but a significant number. People who moan about trees and insist they look realistic - have you any idea how many polygons it takes to make a non cardboard cutout tree? With realistic variegated leaves? You really want PD to plough another six months of engine optimisation and modeling into something that's going to fly past you at 120mph? Well good for you I hope it's worth the wait.

Then there's the reverse lights issue. Not incredibly time consuming in comparison but it's another couple of months at least to remodel all the lights for all the cars, just so that when you pop out of the cockpit view and go backwards ... ooooooh look - SHINY! :dopey:

The real timesink, tho, I'm pretty sure - damage. "I wanna play burnout!" congratulations nimrod, you guys set the game back at least 9 months and probably closer to a year for a feature that even the developer himself thought was retarded.

Anything else we could all moan about while we're at it? How about the fact that the hood or petrol caps don't pop when you press a release button? I mean, come on, surely that's embarrassing too? Or the fact that you can't adjust the mirrors? Anyone would be forgiven for thinking it wasn't actually real.

Newsflash - it's not actually real. It's a driving simulator. The important bits are how much fun it is to race, how realistic the simulation and they've had that nailed since GT1 but, instead we have the age old argument of eye candy over gameplay. The gameplay was ready 3 years ago people! If we hadn't been so obsessed with all the things that don't affect that all important element maybe we'd have all been playing it since then.

But hey - moan away. I'm sure there's plenty more nits to be picked. If enough people complain loudly enough for PD to notice, about a stupid new niggle every month we might just be able to delay the release indefinitely. Wouldn't that be just swell :grumpy:

Thank you for posting this so I didn't have to.

I want the game just as much as the next guy but if this game turns out to be the best around then it will obviously be worth it. It sucks waiting this long, but Ive been playing other games since Ive bought my PS3. I could honestly careless who is at fault for the delay or whatever. The game will be out when its ready.

If GT5 is released as late as in 2011, there is no way they can make it worth the wait. Face it, Polyphony screwed up this time around. Unless the online races will be flawless, just like in iRacing, GT5 will be a big fail in my book. That's a guy who have played every game in the series speaking...

You will still buy it to find out.

Yeah, GT5 was delayed because of the fans...right.

I don't know what's worse, whining about Sony and Polyphony delaying the game, or whining about fans who have delayed the game. In either case, you're a whiner.

You really think that fans wanting damage in GT5 has caused the game to be delayed? Wow. Are you of the "it's never been delayed because there was never a release date :p" a.k.a. "in denial" school of thought? Because if you are, then damage--or any other features for that matter--can't be responsible for the delay, because there has never been a firm release date for the game, so how can there be a delay? Even Japan's release date was never really that firm, and there has never been an official release date for Europe or North America.

Think about it for a minute. Where have you ever seen a definitive statement from Yamauchi or Sony stating that the game has been delayed because of fans wanting damage or other features? Think about this too: if Sony and PD are listening to the ramblings of fans on online forums, or to the "expert opinions" of the "hardcore" GT fans who have tested the GT5 demos at the various gameshows, to inform their decision making process on which features to include in GT5--then that's just an idiotic way to run a company or develop a game. I would sincerely hope that they have not done that in the case of GT5.

And furthermore, if Kaz has decided to include damage in the game, do you think he would be doing it just to satisfy fans?
He must think it's important enough to go to the trouble of putting it in the game, and wisely so. And to those who are whining about damage being included in GT5, I'm fairly certain you'll be able to turn it off, so don't worry about it.

Whatever the causes for the delay, the fans are not one of them.
The fans are responsible for making the game the success it is.
Many people here seem to forget that the Gran Turismo series is a product, not a piece of art.
Yes, Yamauchi and Sony make it, but the fans make it a success. Blaming the fans is ridiculous. Quit your whining :yuck:

KY is a perfectionist and has admitted that he isn't happy when a game is released as he knows he could have made it better... Maybe he feels like GT5 is his chance to make the perfect game now that he has the hardware in the PS3 so isn't going to finish up and sign it off until he is completely happy... Maybe he has extremely high expectations himself and knows the punters expectations are Überhigh because of the time in production so wants to deliver a groundbreaking product that will stand the test of time... Maybe it is just Sony wanting to release the game when it best suits their accounts... 🤬 knows...All I know is I’m more excited about GT5 than I have been about any other game and it’s going to be the best thing I put in my PS3 so far.

The best things come to those who wait

How dare fans complain about the lack of features in GT5!?! All of you bitching and moaning. . . Just shut up let them release another half-assed simulator like Prologue.

I disagree. I can't see any difference between a great painter and a game developer like Kaz. Both are trying to achieve something. Both take their time to do so. Both never sell their works of art before considering them finished. They do it like they think they should and if someone thinks he should've used a different stroke or included reverse lights, both don't give a damn. And I could go on.

Actually, if you're a producer, you have to be able to let go & finish your product, otherwise, you'll never be truly finished...

Ask me how I know.

Maybe the delay is because Kaz has lost it as an artist?

We joke about GT5 being the new Chinese Democracy album which was delayed by countless rewrites and musician shuffling and replacement by Axl Rose but in a sense perhaps Kaz is doing the same thing by repeatedly scrapping certain elements of the game and restarting for a better vision.

You know how you really like a certain rock band but then all of a sudden the new album is overproduced and sounds less like the music you like and more like adult contemporary entertainment because the artists have lost focus because they are pursuing other interests outside of the music and it's left to the studio engineers to patch something together? I wonder if something like that is happening with GT5.

We are responsible !

so many people gave them so much money for GT4 that there is no need for them to release anything afterwards (or need to work at all) for the next 100 years.

So how should we rectify the situation? Try to return our GT4 copies & ask for a refund? :)
