Depends, what does an infraction entail?

Seriously though, I'm the only one around here that thinks that threads like this are rubbish? THE PREVALENCE OF PLANES IN A CAR GAME??!?!?! What next, indepth soil analysis based on the road and ground textures used?

Fine - I'm out.

An infraction results in a permanent record of your conduct and points being issued, get 30 points and you get banned.

What you think of a thread is entirely up to you, and if you feel it is unsuitable then feel free to report it. What you do not do is take it upon yourself to spam the thread.

You do not get to pick what threads and discussions can occur on the site, because the last time I checked you do not operate the site. You don't like a thread, then don't post in it.

In closing I will be quite clear about the next point, keep up the spam and the attitude and you will be out. After all this is not the first time you have received a warning about this, but I assure you it is the last you will get, from this point on its an infraction.

Scaff

It's not the first time planes have been shown off in Gran Turismo games. Remember the plane flyover at Le Mans for the 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT4? What we're possibly learning here is that Gran Turismo is finally starting to appreciate the impact of atmosphere. You know, it doesn't have to be just six cars or sixteen cars on a track with a mostly generic audience. There seems to be a bit more personality to races by including planes. At least, it's a start. So I look at this more along the lines of giving a little more atmosphere and personality rather than intense interest in planes in GT5. I'm thinking big picture here, folks.

Thanks to moderator. GT is a different thing to different people and I choose what i want to see out of it.

Back on topic.

Another way in which Airplanes can be included as a side item is part of the photomode.

I have always wanted to recreate this photo using many other cars.

That would be nice, and all the aircraft in the Red Bull factory in the trailers do hint to that.

You still go to ERAU?

Why not show more planes? I've never really been into them the way I am into cars, but they're fine pieces of engineering nonetheless.

The plane appearances in GT Trailers (that I know of) include:
-Flyover with smoke trails in E3 2009 at Indianapolis
-Learjet on the runway with Mazda and Audi racecars.
-Static Background in Hangar 7 Scenery
-Flyover Hangar 7 in E3 2010 Trailer
-Flyover Top Gear test track in E3 2010 Trailer

As an atmosphere effect, I think they're awesome to include. However, the Learjet racing alongside the Audi R10 and Mazda 787 is truly interesting. Why a Learjet? They're not really known for fly-overs or acrobatics as the other planes that have been seen are. Why on the track and so close to the cars? That's a lot of detail that needs to be made... even for the short time it appeared on screen in that video (can anyone find that video by the way?)

The other interesting point is the Hangar 7 B25. Shown as a static model in the photomode... then shown as flying in the E3 2010 (very briefly)

Also, the E3 2010 GT Trailer is featured on the native Hangar 7 website....

I doubt it, but this could possibly be an unheard of feature in the game. Gives Sony something good to annouce at GamesCom. Something to do with planes.... I really wonder what it could be?

Anyway, just a speculation. I really doubt that the game will have a major unannounced component involving airplanes but... Who knows?

I contacted the red bull hangar, asking if they could help me with my "confusion" of having airplanes and hangars in a car racing game. Hopefully i will get an e-mail that will help clear things up about the airplane inclusion.

It looks like it, but the only thing that leaves me unsure is the lack of wingtip rails (i forgot the real name :dunce:) and the Landing gear hook between the two afterburners)

See :58-:59

The horizontal stabiliser on the su-30 doesn't go to a point and in the trailer the vertical stabilisers are angled but after a bit of searching I can't find any su or migs like that. Can't find any McD-D planes that match the shape either but it looks kind of like an F15 with front canards and F18 wings and tail.

Also, for some reason I can't really imagine Russian aircraft flying over a Nascar event.

Looked like Sukhoi SU-30 Flankers to me.

Su30-flanker.jpg

Old quote, but I love that plane. That be awesome to have it flying around. Although the SU-37 Superflanker would be even better.

Well I watched the video and the ones in the game look a little to thin for the Sukhois. Although I doubt that they're really that worried about a plane that you see for a fraction of a second. I'm going with a mix of Sukhoi and F18, which means they're fake. BUT, I could be wrong

I paused it during the video I think it is a fake plane. I couldn't do a screen grab with my work computer. I will try tomorrow from home. Usually flyovers are done with F-16's, 15's, or 18's in the USA. And I can't think of a fighter jet that is in the US military that has front canards.

The part that got me was the fact that it had the two rear fins set up like an F18, more acute to the rear stabalizers. The front though is Sukhoi alomst to a T. Therefore I too (again) say it's fake.

They did however have an F15 with canards, but it was just a test plane. I love Ace Combat :D.

It's a Namco Ace Combat special. A F/A-18 and Su-27x hybrid.

after e-mailing the red bull hangar regarding the airplanes inclusion in the game they responded with this...

Thanks a lot for your interest in Gran Turismo and also in the Red Bull Hangar-7. It is a very good question you are asking. The Red Bull Hangar-7 is, as you know, the homebase for the Flying Bulls and so a hangar for historical aircrafts. But it is also the homebase for Red Bull Motorsport exibitions. You can find several formula one cars, motorbikes, nascar cars and paris dakar cars.

Therefore Sony is very proud giving the Gran Turismo Fans the opportunity of a virtual visit.

If you have further questions, please don't hesitate contacting me.

All the best
Marcel

That's cool. I wonder how close we are going to be able to get to the actual aircraft, etc.?

Or some more Mitsubishi classics........:D

mitsubishi-zero-sen.jpg

Apart from its awful roll rate the zero really was a fine plane however an N1K Shiden was the best of the war.

Back to the red bull hanger photo i swear i can see an F4U corsair.

Finaly somewhere to talk about planes other than the il2 forum which crashed my ps3.

I'd love to see a GT flying game, might be the first one really worth it on a console. But I doubt it will happen.

On the more realistic side, the flyover in the GT4 LeMans race looked nice, so I could stand for more of that.

The planes themselves are all made up and ugly though, so just make them fly high haha.

The number is lower, but the Su-35 BM is the ultimate Flanker. I think it looks better without the canards too.

got another e-mail and i think its got news in it !!!! so the red bull hangar responded again saying...The main target is to enrich the user experience and the game itself. The main focus in the game developement was the quality of the game but also the add additional features as spectacular venues. We have included three venues which we think are the beginning of a new user experience. The airplanes are well chosen and part of the spectacular venue of the Red Bull Hangar-7.

Best
Marcel
...

does this mean 3 new tracks as venues or what?!?!?! you guys decide

As driving test in game we should be able to do top gear challenges for example recreating test they did (and succeeded of course) for us to try!
