Ugh. I hope that Conan's 90's Ford Taurus is left OUT! Waste of time modelling that clunker, IMO. Love Conan, but hate the Taurus.

Seriously? The SHO was a quick lil car for it's time. I have a friend who has 3 of them. All are track cars and are fun as hell to drive.

Think this will happen when every new pic is fully scrutinized after a long time of zero news, people tend to forget, as phosphor112 correctly pointed out, they are behind a fence and in the distance.
And I will add the fact most will drive past at a considerable speed looking at opponents instead of background detail.:)

But I want my 3D trees. :dunce:

xD Seriously though. 2D trees especially at the distance they are at is 100% fine with me. We already know the trees closer to tracks have a little 3D stuff going into them, but it really isn't needed.

I don't see anything that looks even remotely close to a cartoon. I do, however, see blatant ignorance.

I think he means the extremely flat lighting... In which I have to agree. The models are great but if they had better lighting...

I noticed the shadows of the fence/barrier are jagged.
Was this the case in prologue when viewing wide shots?
Else this could maybe indicate dynamic shadows --> day/night cycle :)

(I'm talking about the barrier on the left of the track.)

Also, the cars only seem to cast 'one shadow', instead of the multiple layers to give a more smoothed effect (but I like this waaay more)

Let me show you what cartoony looks like:

and not so cartoony:

You just picked the best looking picture ,I said some of those pictures like the SLR ,the blue GTR aren't as great looking as some GT5 pics I have seen before.:dunce:
Edit yes I do mean the lighting

I'm not going to get too picky about the quality of the spectator stuff because I have seen some cheap ploys in this generation of racing games. I have yet to see one where I was in awe of the detailed spectators.

Remember those moving rally-spectators whenever a car approached in GT4?
That impressed me and many others I guess at the time, not sure they were very detailed when fully analysed up close.

It's the LOD for the lighting. The farther you get the less lighting detail it renders. That's why you can barely see any shadows for the car, though they should be more "in front" of the car when compared to the rest of the shadows in the picture.

Hope that made sense. I'm horrible at explaining things.

I have said that I don't like the first one,the others are soo amazing!!I think that taking a hard look is a good think!!

Sure :) But I was thinking the shadows where baked into the textures, so you wouldn't have that kind of effect.
This means the shadows are actually calculated. (I could be totally wrong though :p)

They weren't, and this generation has been using low-res models of slightly more 3D looking images.

And they often repeat the same handful of models.

It's a FM3 pic, but I have seen similar in other titles too. Just happened to already have that one handy.

No wonder Sony and PD don't release any info!!

As soon as they do people just pick it to bits. If some of the people got their way and PD focused on trees and grass rather than the racing and the cars we would end up with a gardening simulator!!

Isn't there a game called Flower or something for that stuff??

Who cares if the cars parked in a field are not 20,000 polygons each! When your driving past at 100mph + I am sure it won't matter.

When I'm immersed in a close race with 15 cars on track I am not going to be focusing on a slightly rough shadow.

To be honest I am chuffed that this is an official press release from Sony, its the first decent bit of info in ages. Its also hopefully ramping up some of the hype for an E3 blowout.

They are faily detailed considering how many of them there are (especially in Grand Canyon where its not HSR with dirt) they look your way when you pass, press goes ont o the road they cheer and take pictures.

Im glad to see RACES in GT will FEEL like races, crowd noise and clutter, packed stands tv crews and helis(im assuming) will give it such a nice energy, really differentiate from trackdays and quali's.

Agree but there is no point.

The look of static objects does become an issue when you tout photomode as one of the interesting and fun features of the game. I'm alright with it, but the closer you get to reality, the more out of place the poorly modeled things look.

I swear that the fact we haven't seen more than 8 cars at a time in a screenshot, trailer, or other video for the last several months isn't bothering me at all.

Nope, not a bit. Not panicking, not concerned... I am keeping my faith that what Sony and PD have said in the past about GT5 will remain absolutely true forever and they would never ever take away something from the game that they said it would have (like 16 or more cars on the track).

Still okay here, taking deep breaths... really, I'm not worried at all about it, I promise...

Maybe thinking about "flat" trees will help be calm down...

Shutter rate and aperture! To the rescue!

I think they'll deliver. Especially since NASCAR is involved. They HAVE to have 43 man grid otherwise it would be an embarrassment. It's not NASCAR if it's 16 people alone... so I'm 99% sure they'll deliver...

i always have high hopes, but you are just delutional now.

find me any game with 43 cars. Even in rFator on my good rig 50 cars is just too much...

I thought this discussion was about a driving sim; not a gardening one...

Maybe 43cars no,but I will be fine with 20-25cars!!:sly:

Cars looks good, but track...If we compare those shots to Tokyo shots i no wondering why game is delayed...However Nurb is upscaled-upgraded track from GT4.Maybe it will be better.

I personally understand people when they talk about 2D trees.Year is now 2010...If you played Malasiya in DiRT2 you understand me and those people. And we always want better things - it's natural.

I personally think that GT is really looks better in-game so...

Oh yes - we now understanding what LOCATIONS means.Nurburgring is one location that has 3 tracks...

What the hell are you talking about?
There are tons of 3D spectators on the track, tents, cars, trees (yes they are cardboard trees, but this way they can recreate the look of the real Nordschleife).

Please stop this nonesense already.

Then you're 99% sure to be dissapointed. There's no way we will see that number of cars on track. The games pushing the PS3 at 16 cars, be happy for what we;ve got. Look at Nascar as a new race series for GT rather than expecting an out and out Nascar simulation. There will be specific Nascar game for that, but regarding GT5 the Nascar and WRC aspects will have to fit around the GT5 engine which is very processor hungry due to the sheer level of detail and the number of physics calculations the game is running.

Nascar will most probably be a 16 car grid, that's all you should expect.

I completely agree but its a sad fact that people will never be satisfied, no matter what they'll find anything to nitpick at, its no wonder why its taking 6+ years for its release.

I expect about 20 cars at most on the grid of a NASCAR race. Because all the cars are modeled quite similarly, and the ovals they race on are simple and not to detailed, I think PD will be able to squeeze an extra 4 cars into the grid. (However, NASCAR does have a couple of road courses on their schedule so it may not work for those courses).

Forza 3's Nurb GP looks fine in motion, so will Gt5's

I see what people mean about how GTs replays are so good. We've been spoilt rotten.

There the camera positions don't seem to be as good full stop. They've tried to replicate some realistic shots, they've included camera wobble and background noise from the helicopter. But then they've got some shots which follow the car in motion and are what you expect in a video game. It just isn't necessary, and now I see why the replays in GT are such good quality.

The track looks good though. More than good actually, and it appears to be fairly accurate (Though the Nordschleiffe itself isn't).

We have to acknowledge though, that the Xbox 360 limits Turn10's creativity. The Playstation 3 is a much more powerful console, where it counts. It's just harder to squeeze the power out of it because most of it comes from the SPEs in the Cell Processor, which most game developers are not familiar with using. So we see 16 cars per track, better lighting effects and we see more trees on the full Nordschleiffe to replicate the forest environment. Whereas the Forza 3 version just seems to have grassy banks at the sides with a few trees here and there.
