I think it was explained clearly why the same model of the same car repeated over and over on the screen isn't as hardware intensive as the same amount of different models. Nothing hardware defying. Nascar cars have very basic shapes. I don't see why they would make them the same number of polygons as more intricate vehicles. I don't believe every car in G5 is 400k polygons, I think that's the highest number they used on a car. I don't see how a daihatsu copen would require as many polygons as an Enzo or Murcielago.

Firstly, the game treats each car differently on track, and has to process and calculate differently for each one. Using many of the same models in a race only cuts down on the race loading time, it has no difference on the processing power used during a race.

They are high polygon and high detailed models, as with all cars in GT. A lesser poly count for a simpler model might make sense but it is probably not the case. Besides, Stock cars are rounded, the polygons need to be of a sufficient detail to show the rounded edges etc. The panels are not completely flat. They are also likely to be 'premium' models, which most likely means there is infact more detail in them than roadcars, having to account for the damage model, they have to model the parts underneath the panels etc. so that when parts fall off you are looking at accurate representation of the damage.

As for the size of the car, sure a Copen would use less polys than a big Murcielago, simply because it is smaller. So the same level of detail equals less polygons. But if i'm very much mistaken, Stock cars are quite large.

Second news that make me happy, after NASCAR inclusion in GT. :cool: I would suggest that most of you people stop hoping for things, or taking some of them for granted. ;) You don't want to be saying "but I was sure this was included..." once you get to play the game, right?

Finally some real news!

We took it for granted that it would be in, after KY did the 'Ring 24 hour race. The GP track is part of the circuit used in that event, so he couldn't really leave it out... He said he was practicing for it on GT, so it's probably been in a while.

I'm 100% sure I'll love the game regardless, because I know PD put a lot of work into this and it will be reflected in the final product.

I won't do the same as you're proving it to be pointless.
I'll add this though, when you have such large, flat panels, as nascar cars do, you can make the polygons much bigger, therefore requiring less of them, without sacrificing quality.

And I understand what you mean. But getting 43 cars on track would be a stupidly difficult task on the hardware, using the GT5 engine. 16 cars is already pushing it on the hardware, even with Prologue's cars which were supposedly lower poly than the GT5 ones. They 'could' have pushed it to 18 or maybe 20 if they lowered the poly models to the 100-150k region, but in my opinion, it's not going to happen.

This is all speculation. But so far, we have had no information or indication that there will be more than 16 cars on the track for any events. NASCAR fans want a full grid. Well I want my Formula 1 (Albeit unofficial) races to be 20-26 cars, I want my Le Mans 24 hours to have full sized grids with class divisions. But it's doubtful, on all of those.

I actually think that most races will be 6-8 cars with 16 reserved for the bigger tracks or just nascar.
 
Just saw the front page, Loving what I'm seeing. And this why I stay optimistic about GT5 :) Gonna feel weird driving onto the GP course on purpose this time around as opposed to GT4 :lol:
 
I think GT's loading screens should say "coming soon" as a sought of in joke. For added realism how about a 6 month loading time.

There is your answer. You just acknowledged exactly my thinking by the way, 16 cars at most, with less for other events. But i was thinking along the lines of 10-12 not 6-8. 6-8 is not really enough in any event, and people have been saying this since the start of GT.

Ah, more to polygonal modeling than that.

A round thing is a lot harder to make, and uses more polys, than a boxy, fairly simple, clean, design. Even worse if it has lots of intersecting lines and creases on the body.

Think of it this way, polygons are 3 straight lines. The important bit is the straight line part.

Now, if you want to make something curved, like say, an Audi TT or Copen or Lamborghini Kanto, you need enough of those straight lines, and you need them to be small and compact to fool your eye into thinking it's a smooth line, not faceted at all.
What this does to poly count:

My other point is how clean the body is. Think of a Koenigsegg CCX.

Now, imagine if it was made of butter, you could run some wire down it, from front to rear. Like, a series of wires in this pattern:

then you make some cuts horizontally, from front to back:

then in the side view:

As you're now imaging, this car gets cut up quite nicely into little squares/cubes. all of the creases on the body sit nicely on an axis, from the creases just inside of the headlights to the gentle curve of the doors.


Nor, imaging the Lamborghini Kanto, or some messed up BMW FLAME SURFACING OMG ROFL car. Lines everywhere, they don't sit nicely on an axis, they cross over each other, there's bits sticking out, etc.

PAIN IN THE REAR TO MODEL.

Among the latest screenshots that we have seen,I suspect that one of the screenshots has the Honda HSV-010 GT (NSX replacement)..

impossible, and 100% UNTRUE...it doesn't matter if its 16 of the same car, or 16 different cars...ALL of the textures, models and rendering has to pass through the consoles memory...there is no way to avoid this...

Now, the reason we COULD see more NASCAR cars on track is because their body work is rather Plain Jain compared to some of the other cars we have seen...so will require less polys to create, and therefore less resources needed to render (in theory)...

but just because its 16 of the same car does not make it less hardware taxing than 16 different cars...its all about the details of the models and what track you happen to be on at the time...
 
As you were told in another thread, it is the GT LM Spec 2. The HSV will be in GT5 though.
