How can you break a motor in , in gt5 ive heard the term used a lot but got no answer.

Drive the car. That's it.

Engine break in is a term used to describe the fact, that an engine is not performing at it's optimal level until some mileage has been done. Without getting too nerdy(cause I can't explain it anyway), I think it has something to do with the pistons having to adjust etc.

In GT5 I've heard that engine break in should take effect after 200-500 miles of racing in the car.

It's not the pistons, but the rings that have to seat correctly (in real life anyway) ;)

As I said, I wouldn't be able to describe it to perfection ;) Thanks for the correction! :)

late to the party as usual, but ive seen a lot of players online still not getting this. To add miles to achieve max. hp you must have tire wear on in order to log miles on the car.

Ive also noticed this only seems to work on premium level cars. I bought a zzii with zero miles. Being used it was deemed a standrd car. After 200 miles there was zero hp change. Any one else notice this?

You have to be in a race with all damage on, everything set to real and weak, and drive to around 300 miles

Ahh Ok i was wondering on what to put so i just said everything.

The rule with engine break in.

Any race, or practice, you must travel 300 then oil change to reach maximum horsepower. This was confirmed by sorg when he looked into the files of GT5

If you buy a car from the OCD they are already broken in. So it doesn't matter. They will lose or gain no power.

Why did you bump a nearly year old thread when there is a recent one here.

Yeah, seriously. We need these threads to stop. Look it up if you want to know how to break in a car people, from now on.

Mods, lock this thread.

Or they could not even do a search and people can just look at the FAQ thread that is stickied to the top of the page.

Hey, slow down there junior. Not a very good idea to start telling the mods how to do their jobs. Hopefully I got the poster pointed in the right direction with the newer thread. No real need for you to chime in like that.

Yes. OCD Standard are like that I Sure and the 400R Nismo I purchased from the UCD under 200miles didnt need a break in either but level ticket Standard cars (0/0/0) do require break in.:dopey:

Technically this isn't a thread bump because a question was asked.

Thread Bumping (#)

Thread “bumping” is the practice of replying to a thread solely for the purpose of bringing attention to it. This is looked down upon and may result in an official warning or infraction for “spam” or “useless posts”. Your posts in a thread should contribute to the discussion or introduce new information in some way. Limited, overt bumping is permitted in The Trading Post (not to be confused with the GT5 Marketplace).

When a new forum member starts a new thread he is flamed and told to search first.

When a new forum member searches and bumps an old thread to ask a question he gets flamed for that.

Also from the FAQs:

Criticizing “Those Who Do Not Search” (#)

It has long been popular on Internet discussion boards to ridicule or embarrass users who may ask questions that could have easily been answered by searching the web or the forums. Indeed, many questions can be answered this way, and indeed, many users could make better use of the tools available to them. However, that is no reason to treat them with disrespect, as there is a wide and legitimate range of experience among users on the Internet. If you see someone on GTPlanet asking what you believe to be a trivial question, suggest keywords or links or simply ignore their questions altogether. Do not harass them.

I think some of you only hang around to flame new members...

I agree with bs13. I never actually saw this on forums before until I joined GTP. Its hipocracy at its finest! I guess Im just used to hanging with the older farts on the good Honda forums.

I've been wondering if this is also possible to do to cars you "rebuild"? I always did it to cars I would buy from the UCD instead of just doing oil changes but never noticed any HP gains while going about but I noticed that one of my Formula GT cars had a higher BHP than the other and both had a fresh oil change? PS: this is before the update where they added the OCD. (Also before my HDD broke... :( )

In defence of cargorat he wasnt flaming he was pointing the poster to a newer thread.

I agree that flaming happens from time to time but I only see one post thats a bit questionable.

As such questioning of how a person has posted in response to a possible bump falls under the mods responsibility.

If you have a problem with what I did, use the report button and report me and let the mods decide whats best. I was only pointing the poster to a newer thread. I merely asked him a question, then pointed him to a newer thread. I did not flame him whatsoever. It is not up to you to remind me of the rules of these forums. I am well aware of the rules around here.
