OK, I see the 2010 cars, but do you think there will be a 2011 NASCAR update/DLC for GT5? I think so, what about you?
There's a bit of a disconnect between NASCAR's 75 million fans and the rest of the almost 7 billion people on Earth, of which hundreds of millions are race fans but not NASCAR fans. NASCAR fans are almost exclusively American, and Americans have a somewhat distorted view of pretty much everything.
We assume that we're the smartest or best-educated nation on Earth, when in reality our students are outperformed by students of many other nations. We assume that our citizens are the wealthiest or best-off on Earth, when in reality they aren't. We believe that we have the best health care system on Earth, when in reality we're outranked by several other nations. We believe our race drivers are the best on Earth, even though drivers from our top motorsport haven't really competed against drivers from other nations (almost all NASCAR drivers are American).
Most directly relevant to the issue on hand, we believe that our top motorsport is the world's top motorsport and/or the most-watched or most successful. We believe NASCAR is really something special and that the world of motorsports, and consequently in racing gaming, revolves around and is overshadowed by NASCAR. As with the trend of the previous paragraph, these views are erroneous.
Sure, NASCAR is very successful and very lucrative, and their fans can be very passionate about it. It's still just a small-scale, local thing. NASCAR and their fans may be quick to argue that it's viewed in countless countries across the world, but that's only a technicality. If ten people in Bullcrapistan watch it, that's enough to count as being viewed in that country, but ten people are negligible. Disregarding their token viewers sprinkled about the world, NASCAR is really just a North American thing. It's a big world out there, and in this world the US accounts for only 4.5% of its total population. We're a drop in a large bucket.
The point of this long rant is to put things into perspective. While NASCAR viewers see NASCAR as a pretty big deal, something that GT5 really needs to honor and respect with more NASCAR content and updates, it's really
not the center of the motorsport world; far from it. NASCAR doesn't even resemble most other forms of motorsport loved elsewhere in the world, either, as NASCAR centers around oval racing which is again basically just an American thing, as most other motorsports around the globe are varieties of road racing. Other racing series would be due updates in GT5 every bit as much as NASCAR, but NASCAR fans seem to feel that it's NASCAR that really needs the update treatment.
Long rant short - I doubt that there will be any NASCAR updates for the game, especially since that single motorsport isn't any more deserving or in any more need of GT5 updates than any number of other motorsports. There are many motorsports depicted in the game but so many of them are limited to outdated Standard models with so few Premium representatives. If anything, I would expect those other racing series to see updates before NASCAR gets them. As an example, I'd expect to see the new Audi R18 and Peugeot 908 (the latest iteration for 2011).
