"Gran Turismo used to be the benchmark for visuals, but over the five years it's taken to put GT5 in a jewel case, the game's begun to look decidedly pedestrian. Overall - and we NEVER thought we'd say this - we reckon Forza III has the march on GT5 in overall aesthetics." - CVG review

Cool story, bro.

Interesting that a couple of reviews say the online platform needs some work/is a hassle, but in the Destructoid review, for instance, they call it 'a really polished, attractive online experience'.

Considering online only went live, what, 24 hours ago? I'm not sure where the truth lies.

seems like the general consensus (with the exception of the destructoid and JV review) is that it's one of the best games on the market, but not quite all it was made up to be. I'm really not suprised, to be honest.

If GT5 was 10 premium cars and one track the Nurburgring, I would gladly pay 100$ for it.
The physics and that one track are really all I care about.
GT5 physics are deep enough you could spend a life time trying to master a track and still find new lines new braking points for a faster time.
This cannot be said for many other games.
I'm still trying to get faster on Suzuka in GT5P, it's deeply rewarding just to lose 0.200 a sec off my previous time.

All this bitching about the crowd graphics in these reviews, ffs,.Driving at 180 mph in a car in real life the crowd would look a blur all the time wouldn't it and if your constantly looking at the crowd instead of looking at the road then your going to end up having a rather quick death I should imagine.

Well I played it for 6.5 hours last night (would have been longer but work this morning)

I'd say an 8 is fair.

Graphics are a bit of a disappointment... quite a few glitches, Sound is a disappointment, Overall game play is a bit of a disappointment too.

That being said I'd still say its probably the best driving game on the PS3 (never played Forza so cant compare). The problem for me I think is its a bit too arcade like. Thats probably as I've spent the last few weeks playing LFS though.

If you love previous GT games you will really like it, but if you've been waiting for it for 5+ years you probably will feel a bit of disappointment after the wait

The conclusion of IGN :

"Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game – it’s driving is as exhilarating as anything that’s gone before, and its slavish obsession with the minutiae of many of its cars ensure it's an encyclopaedia of automotive delights. Its brilliance on the track, however is matched by its sloppiness off of it, and there’s a lack of polish that would at one time have seemed sacrilegious to the series. Ultimately its driving wins out to ensure that it’s still a great game, but it leaves that nagging doubt; this could have been a masterpiece were it not for the fact that Polyphony was so absorbed with the detail that it took its eye off the ball."

this is a lesson for polyphony : polish and presentation are very important in video games ! hopefully they could patch this, or we must wait for GT6 for a more polished experience...(for example in a patch they sould allow a full install option...)

I agree with that 100%... though I've played it 6.5 hours and still can't seem to be able to race round the ring on it (proper nordschliefe not GP circuit)

I've had 1 corner turn up in a licence test but I cant seem to be able to race round it yet

I thought kaz+P.D have said that they will be polishing the game before it's release?

^Info mentioned months ago. Good luck searching that.

Following on my earlier post and just to pick up on what the others have said. In GTP I feel this amazing fluidity in the driving physics. I almost feels like I'm dancing with the car, like getting behind the wheel is a special moment. The only time I felt like that was when I've got behind a real sports car and went for a speedy country drive or on a track day. Now that is a real driving simulator!

I also believe that there will be some DLC and numerous patches, and a lot of the problems will be resolved.

Oh, and I predict 8.5 from Gamespot, my favourite video games website. 👍

Meh, I've never bothered with IGN after they gave Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 9.something as a score, while it really was a new campaign and the same exact multiplayer from last game.

I'd rather read a review by a site that actually knows about car simulators, like InsideSimRacing.

Well it's no surprise, IGN is hand in hand with M$, they provide game coverage and many more for xbox live.

yep, that explains why they gave it a great, but not perfect score, same with many other reviewers. it isn't the standard cars, they were bribed!:scared:

GameRactor: 7/10
A wish to put too much in, to do too much instead of doing a few things really, really well. Within the slow and one-sided career mode, the uneven graphics and the dizzying presentation I find improved and more dynamic car physics, a good online mode and amazingly beautiful Premium-cars. But that's not enough to beat Forza Motorsport 3

I honestly doubt that he'd be that low to give it a score based on that info alone--we know that there are noticeable and universal complaints to be made about the game, although I didn't think the review was that remarkable either-referring to the IGN review, sorry.

Perfect ! .... just as I expected .... they just don't understand the game, but have to review it ....

Seems the general consensus is about 9.5-9/10 whihc seems fair. The circuits are a little cold and there is a lack of... polish to them that developers like Codies and T10 have been working on in the interim.
Look at F1 2010, the crowds and such look very good in game and replay. GT5 looks pretty good to be fair but there IS that little nagging feeling in the back of your mind that says 'this isn't quite the prettiest thing in the world'.
Still a very good game and very solid reviews :)
